Anvita

Anvita had never believed Rajat's ‘just one-time’ promise. She knew it was a fake promise Rajat wanted her to desperately believe so that she would commit to it in order to move on. And she was sure; once she gave in to that lie he would make her his slave. He would take her into his bed every time Atul went on a trip. “I thought you must have called him first.”

She added.

Atul was thoughtful.

Anvita was relieved. However, she was going to keep an eye on Atul. She still remembered how excessive drinking had left him unconscious during the dinner with Shreyas. Rajat had seen it, and he could think of it as a trick to use for his own benefit.

“What is in the other packet?”

Anvita pointed to the other packet Rajat had brought. He winked at her.

And she knew what it could be, very soon, as Atul placed three glasses on the centre table. Two of them had a tint of blue and the third was plain in colour. He was going to make a drink for her too.

Anvita stopped him.

“I’ll have my wine, Atul.”

She went inside and brought a wine bottle. Before she poured into the glass, she had a close look at the bottom of the glass. The blue tint on the glass made it difficult to see and Anvita had to look carefully. There was nothing inside it.

Anvita thought and her lips blossomed into a smile. She could not believe she did not trust Atul any better that Rajat.

 

Soon she went on to conclude one thing; that she had started to believe and accept what the men were. While one desperately wanted to lay her, the other one simply wanted to help him. Both of them were working on a secret mission and she was left to defend herself.

It was a game.

It was a game with only two outcomes.

“You cheater! You promised me you’ll never tell her about this.”

He was telling Rajat and nothing more was needed to be told.

And you promised me you’ll take care of me for the whole life when we married. Anvita wanted to remind him.

She felt like dumb, looking at him.

So it was the plan. Atul knew and actually helped Rajat to buy this gift in order to impress her. And he was until then sitting there like a spectator who knew nothing. He just wants to enjoy the show, Anvita realised.

“Mark my words, he’s gonna sell you too.” Varun’s screaming echoed in her mind. Is he gonna do that? If he was so liberal, then why was he so heartbroken after the night at Alyssa when I got intimate with Varun? Anvita felt like a fool for regretting every one of her misadventures in the past.

Atul was explaining how they had bought the lehenga. And he too wanted to see her wear it.

“He selected it and I only chose the correct size. It won’t take much time, Anvi. I know you’ll love it.”

Anvita looked at him wondering if he would let Varun and Shreyas have the same liberty with her, and got up. As she walked a few steps to the room with the packet in hand, she heard Rajat thanking Atul.

 

Anvita hated herself for still behaving sanely. She wished she got angry and stopped talking to them both, locking herself in the room for the rest of the night.

Anvita locked the door from inside and opened the packet disdainfully. It was a light pink and gold embellished lehenga and blouse.

Wear them. Show to them. Finish the dinner. And say goodnight. She blurted in mind as the opened the clothing. A small packet inside its folding caught her attention. She checked it and her heart stopped. Shame and anger boiled her blood together and she threw it on the floor. She wanted to scream and let the whole neighbourhoods know what was happening to her.

It was a bra and a panty, both in pink colour. They were not in their original covering, despite the appearance of branded apparel. They were taken out and apparently folded into this by Rajat.

For a moment she thought it was just a bad dream. It was impossible Atul let his friend buy this! But it was happening in front of her eyes. Atul had admitted having gone with Rajat to buy the gift.

Her phone buzzed a message. It was Rajat.

Anvita wanted to throw away the phone but she refrained from doing it. It was beautiful, a gorgeous piece of clothing. Anvita was not surprised for she now knew it was Atul's selection. And she already knew she would look perfect if she wore it. She would have felt on top of heaven if it was gifted by him. She thought and then corrected her. Well, it is.

She took the bra from the floor and had a close look. It was a lightly padded bridal wear with thin straps. It was her size and of a costly brand. So much for this dinner! She smiled and shook her head defiantly. It’s not gonna make me fall for you, moron.

She got up and undressed quickly. She stood in front of the mirror completely naked and thought if Rajat was ever going to see her like that.

If it is my fate… She began to think and a bolt of lightning that passed through her stomach ended it abruptly.

She wore the clothes with a sense of urgency. All of them suited her perfectly and she was left with awe at the beauty of the lehenga. She had a tough time to move away from the mirror, despite being upset by the fact that she was shamelessly impressed by it.

The thin pad inside the bra cup made her breasts look slightly bigger and rounder, and there was no dupatta to hide it from Rajat's eyes. The low cut neckline of the blouse gave away an ample view of her cleavage. It is for a purpose.

The blouse was stitched neatly and elegantly, as per her size and shape, as if she had given the measurements for it. The blouse and lehenga together showed a lot of her skin – her arms, midriff, neck, and cleavage – and Anvita wasn’t surprised. This is what they both want to see.

Anvita took a deep breath and walked out. She walked on and stopped in front of Atul, mocking a pose like a model on a ramp walk.

“You happy now, Mr Husband?”

Her eyes stayed on Atul's face, but psychically she was observing Rajat. In fact, she didn’t see Atul at all.

“Ask him; he’s the one gifted you this!”

Atul's response was nothing unexpected.

Yes, he wants Rajat to make a comment on how hot his wife looked in these clothes.

“No. I don’t want to make him happy anymore. I can see how happy he already is.” Anvita blurted and returned to her seat.

She noticed Rajat had taken off his blazer. His shirt was light blue! Her heart sank a little more as she realised why Atul asked her to wear the light blue dress for the evening. He wanted to make me look like a match for Rajat! It looked like there was a reason for his choice of blue tinted glasses for her and Rajat while choosing the plain colour for him. Anvita looked at Atul scornfully. He seemed in a dream world. Anvita didn’t dare to make out what he was dreaming.

Rajat smiled at her and made a gesture – a circle – with his thumb and index finger to express his awe. She looked on, as he slowly brought the circle down to his lap and moved his left index finger in and out of it twice and subtly eyed her toward the bedroom. Anvita's face turned red at the obscene gesture. She averted her eyes, wondering why she wasn’t walking away already.

Perhaps now I am ready to endure all these humiliations. I am not a silly woman to be put off by all this.

“You look like an angel, Anvita. Please don’t go out wearing this and without Atul. You’ll get kidnapped,” Rajat said.

Anvita didn’t smile at his flattery. All she wanted was this to end. She grabbed her empty wine glass and had a close look at its bottom, again.

There was nothing, yet.

She poured wine and took a sip. “I don’t think I’ll wear it again. I don’t feel comfortable in this,” she retorted.

“Oh, don’t do that, Anvi. You should know how much pain I took for it. Look at the blouse, for instance. It’s perfect, isn’t it?”

Anvita grinned at him. “If you think it is perfect then you keep it. You can wear it. And I suggest you never go out wearing it. Else you’ll find yourself locked in a mental hospital.”

“Keep joking at me. I don’t mind because it’s you. Speaking about the blouse, do you know why it fits so perfectly? It’s because Atul had taken a blouse from your shelf and handed it to me. He wanted me to get it done to perfection. He’s such a sweet husband.”

Anvita's face turned red again.

Her eyes blazed at Atul. His smile seemed artificial to her.

“Atul? You stole my blouse?”

Atul didn’t respond. He was not even listening.

“Atul?”

Anvita's voice changed in an instant, and it was a testimony to how easily her self-confidence could wash away.

“What’s wrong with you, Atul?”

Atul turned his eyes to her and smiled again lightly, as if in sleep though eyes open, and eased in his seat once. That was the last eye contact Anvita could make with him before his head fell back on the backrest of the couch.

Anvita watched in horror and next moment she realised she was alone with Rajat.

“What happened to him, Rajat?”

Her voice was trembling.

“What happened to him?” Rajat was surprised and he turned to Atul. “Atul…? Are you okay buddy?”

He got up and sat next to Atul and tried to wake him up.

“Atul…Atul!”

He shook Atul's shoulder and it brought no response from him.

“I can’t believe this!” Rajat shook his head in shock. “Look at his glass. He barely had one and a half tot. Strange! Was he already drunk?”

“What!”

Anvita knelt in front of Atul and tried to wake him, in vain.

“I had told him we’ll have just two drinks. I doubt he must have had something beforehand.” Rajat looked at her. “Anvita you should keep a check on his drinking habit. I’ve been advising him since I saw him so drunk at the dinner with his boss. His carelessness has landed him in trouble many times…”

He paused.

Anvita felt he was just trying to remind her about that night. That he knows my secrets.

She looked up and saw where his eyes were. She was suddenly aware of her cleavage. She got up and looked at his drink. It was exactly at the same level as that of Atul's drink. It was impossible that Atul got drunk and fell asleep with one and a half tot.

 

However, she was not going to believe his claim as well.

Atul was not drunk. She was damn sure.

Is he faking it?

A thought flashed in her mind and it disgusted herself. She grabbed her glass and took a sip, trying to pretend she was quite normal.

“Okay, leave him. We can still have some fun, Anvita.”

Rajat eased in the couch.

Anvita stared at him.

“What fun?”

She tried to sound as cold as she could.

“You can make a guess, Anvi. Atul is a clever husband. He wants us to have some fun.”

“Stop this nonsense. Let me arrange food on the table. Let’s have it and call it a day.”

She said bitterly.

“Come on, Anvi. You can’t do this to me. You had promised me.”

Anvita knew where it was heading. She wasn’t surprised anymore but she had to pretend shock.

“What are you saying? What did I promise you?”

“You promised me if Atul wanted you to do this, you’d do this.”

“And this is that? This is how he tells you he wants you to do this?”

“Anvi, listen to me. We are living in a society. We can do a lot of things but there is a way to do it. Do you think Atul's ego will ever allow him to ask you to sleep with me? The answer is no, and it will remain so forever. Now, you have a look at him. He’s giving you enough clues about what he wants you to do. You tell me, who else can get drunk and pass out like this, leaving his beautiful wife in the company of a young friend who he knows is very good at sex. And you take a close look at him; he’s truly slept. He’s not faking it.”

As if he had read her mind, he faced Atul and shook him. “See, he’s not gonna wake up. He has planned this. And this is how he has given you the freedom.”

Anvita quietly returned to her seat and placed the wine glass on the table. She brought her face down into her palms. Her head was spinning. Her arms and knees were quivering.

No.

“Look at me Anvita,” Rajat said, shifting closer to Atul. He took Atul's left hand and Anvita died next moment breathless, as he brought his hand to his own crotch. He rubbed Atul's palm between them.

“What the…” Anvita yelled. “What the fuck are you doing?”

Rajat gestured her to calm down.

“I am not doing anything, Anvi. I am just trying to show you something; the truth. It’s going to hurt you but it’s between you and I. Atul is a willing cuckold. There are men out there who dream of their wives to be taken by men who can do better than them in bed.”

Anvita shook her head in denial, and with utter disgust.

“Stop this nonsense, Rajat. I have no time and energy for this…”

Rajat pulled out his mobile phone.

“I know it’s hard to believe for a woman like you, but I can prove it in a second.”

He tapped a few times on the screen and showed it to her.

“See this, Anvita. I’ve made a simple Google search and see the results.”

Anvita got up and took his mobile phone in her hand. Rajat had searched ‘how to convince my wife to sleep with someone else’ on Google and it had fetched many pages of confirming results. Thousands of men, wanting to see their wives have sex with other men – and Atul was one of them.

“It’s is not porn site results. You see, it’s from Quora, the people are real.”

Rajat added.

Anvita was exhausted. She looked up, breathing hard. The mobile phone fell from her hand, and Rajat caught it before it hit the ground.

 

Anvita was not shocked. That moment had already passed. She had already learnt what Atul was. But now suddenly she felt deep in her heart there was still a hope that she could be wrong in her judgement. Perhaps it could be just a momentary crush that made Atul behave in a certain way. But now that hope was gone, forever. Someone else had affirmed it.

The truth can never be unwritten, from this moment. She knew.
