Chapter 53

Anvita

 

Anvita was stepping out of the lift, and her eyes fell directly on Rajat's face. He smiled, before taking a glance at her from head to toes, and then turned to Atul.
“Looks like somebody’s coming for dinner.”
He had certainly noticed the grocery bags Atul was carrying in his hands.
“Yeah, somebody’s coming.”
Atul shook his head, and Anvita quickly added, "My cousin is coming for dinner. How’s Pooja?”
Rajat turned to her, visibly pleased to see her talking to him willingly.
“Very soon. Next week, maybe.”
Anvita didn’t believe it.
 
As they walked into the house Atul asked her why she lied. Anvita laughed it off.
“He lies to us about Pooja all the time. Next week, next week, how many weeks are gone by?”
Atul stared at her, amused, for a moment.
“Oh, my bag!” Anvita remembered as soon as she walked into her room. “I forgot it in the car. Will you bring it for me?”
“I will do that, but let me do something else for you now.”
Atul said and pulled her closer to take her in his arms, right away. He began to kiss her but she stopped him.
“We are already late, Atul. I must prepare dinner in time.”
Atul was disappointed. Anvita smiled.
“What happened to you?”
“I want to express my love, baby. That’s all.”
“Really?” Anvita flushed, “or you want to make it?”
“Both are the same thing.”
“But not now.”
Anvita pushed him away.
They had a guest for dinner.
 
Anvita was in the kitchen when Prithvi arrived. She heard the doorbell ringing once and her heart began to beat faster. It was a fact that she was excited about the dinner. She was waiting to see how Atul was going to behave in Prithvi's presence. She was trying to visualise the dinner and Atul's reaction during it. She hoped she could get to know what was in his mind.
 But the moment Prithvi's arrival became a reality Anvita understood what risk she was blithely taking. Her thoughts were too self-centred that until then she hadn’t thought about what Prithvi was going to assume from Atul's behaviour. What if Atul admitted this dinner as a date for her? What if Atul was even ready to accept him as more than a date? Anvita's excitement gave way to fear in no time as questions began to pop into her mind. What if Rajat was spot on about Atul? The thought gave her chills. Even a gesture from Atul that conveyed his passiveness to Prithvi's sexual advance would break all the hell loose.
Anvita felt she shouldn’t have suggested the dinner.
 
Atul had welcomed in Prithvi. Anvita took her time to regain her composure before she walked out to greet him.
“Hey, Prithvi.”
Prithvi's face lit up as she showed up, and he got up from his seat.
“Hello, Anvita.”
His respectful expression took her by surprise. It was exactly how a student was expected to greet his former teacher. Perhaps the presence of her husband got him to do this, Anvita thought. She felt a sense of relief filling her mind that he was just a student and a friend before a small chill went through her. Twice. He fucked me twice in my bed. Anvita swallowed.
“Sit down, Prithvi. You are embarrassing yourself.”
She said.
“He’s paying respect to his teacher. You should acknowledge that.”
Atul smiled at them both. The cocky tone of his voice and the smile did not go unnoticed by Anvita's wary eyes. He definitely knows Prithvi is not just a student.
“She was very strict in our class; I used to get nervous in front of her. I got the same feeling now." Prithvi smiled and sat down. "We are seeing so long after, aren’t we?”
He’s acting so well. Anvita admitted.
“After so long?” Atul wondered. “The wedding was last week; you can’t forget that, can you?”
Anvita was stunned. The wedding. It was a reference to what they did at the wedding.
The wedding. The wedding eve. The bed. The shaking of the bed. The darkness. It was unforgettable, indeed.
"I…I’ll bring something to drink.”
Anvita mumbled and turned on her heel. She felt weaker than never before as she walked to the kitchen.
“And change your clothes too, honey. You have a guest in the house.”
She heard Atul's voice behind her. Her heartbeats escalated further.
You! He said you have a guest.
He wants you to dress up for your guest.
He wants you to please your guest.
 
Anvita stopped in the kitchen and rubbed her forehead with both hands. Her head was hot. She couldn’t understand what was happening. Perhaps she knew what was happening, but she was not yet ready to admit it was happening.
 
Atul was throwing hints around her. And he was having fun doing that. He’s taunting us both with the references, making us go back to it, to the memory of what we did.
Anvita felt weak. She was not sure whether it was Atul or herself who was pushing her into a trap.
 
Atul! Why are you doing this to me? Why don’t you speak your mind? Is it how you are punishing me? By bringing me down to this image of a degraded woman? Are you trying to make me see it myself what I have become?
 
But it was not a punishment. Anvita knew somehow. He’s labouring to hide the truth. He’s playing a safe game. All he wants you to do is to dress up for his guest and tease him little. Then after Prithvi is gone, he might make love to me.
Anvita remembered Rajat's words.
“When I am gone after the night, he might think of me having sex with you.”
For a moment Anvita wished he was right.
 
Anvita went to her room and selected a bright yellow dress from the shelf. It was one of Atul's favourites. It will impress his friend too. She looked at her reflection in the mirror. Her printed top had gotten dirty from the kitchen work. Yes, he was right. This is not what your guest deserves to see.
Anvita hurriedly swapped her top and pyjama for the dress. She spent two minutes in front of her dressing table, doing a quick touch here and one there, ensuring she looked elegant self. She tied her hair neatly behind her head before she walked out.
 
When she finally made to the hall with a tray of soft drinks in her hands, she was aware of the wide eyes on her. She was expecting it, yet she felt nervous. Not because of them staring at her, but because she was aware of the fact that Atul was manipulating her to be willingly stared at by Prithvi. Anvita smiled at Atul and he smiled back as if everything was normal.
He too is acting so well. She admitted.
 
"Okay now?"
Anvita looked at Atul while placing the tray on the centre table.
As she bent forward she consciously made an effort not to bend toward Prithvi. She then quickly thought she should have. She looked up at Atul. He was rather ignorant of such things. His confidence actually amused her. His eyes were devoid of any nervousness or fear that Anvita was breathing per moment, as his response was merely an encouraging nod at her.
He then proceeded to take a glass from the tray and passed it to Prithvi.
"I had given up on the lunch," Atul was saying. "Then Anvi suggested this dinner. She has special care for you."
He was not nervous about his wife sitting together with a man who had fucked her in his marital bed. He was not hiding away from the truth. He was, in fact, referring to it every now and then, taking pleasure from it, encouraging her to play the sport.
Perhaps I should also behave like him, nonchalantly.
 
Anvita sat on the couch opposite Prithvi and joined the chat. Later Atul suggested wine and he went to the kitchen to bring a bottle. Anvita didn't protest, knowing that Atul wouldn't listen.
She smiled at Prithvi.
“What time is your flight?”
“Evening, around six o’clock.”
“So, ready to go?”
Prithvi hesitated. He threw a glance toward the kitchen to see if Atul was coming back.
“Can you sit here, with me?”
He gestured to the couch next to him. Anvita was amused.
“You are not giving up?”
“Please."
Anvita waited for a moment and shifted to the couch next to him. Prithvi quickly grabbed her hand and kissed on it.
“Thank you.”
Anvita was shocked at his sudden response. She pulled back her hand.
“Are you angry with me?”
He asked softly.
“For this?”
“No. I mean, I am sorry I misbehaved with you that day. I…”
“It’s okay.”
“I was really sad and hopeless when I got that moment, I went crazy. You know how much I'm fond of you.”
“It’s okay. I told you. Now shut up.”
Anvita said hastily. Prithvi smiled and placed his palm over hers again.
“Don’t!”
Anvita protested this time. “You’ll get me killed.”
She got up and shifted back to her earlier seat.
Atul brought the wine bottle and filled three glasses.
Soon he held up his wine glass for a toast.
“This dinner, this wine is for Prithvi on the occasion of his first ever job," he said. “May God help him find a lot of jobs like this.”
“What are you saying, Atul?”
Anvita interrupted.
“Let me finish, babe.”
Atul smiled at her and went on, "may he find a lot of jobs that will eventually help him chase and get what he truly dreams about. The perfect job.”
“Oh, that’s cool.”
Anvita laughed.
Prithvi raised his glass and thanked them both.
 
The conversation was mostly about trivial things. Anvita was, however, unable to join them despite trying. She was watching Atul with vigilant eyes. She kept looking for clues, with a sense of caution.
Prithvi was talking about his uncle in Bangalore.
“My uncle’s son and I were very close. We still are but he’s in the US. So my uncle always invites me to spend the vacation with him. He owns an apartment almost like this, on the fourth floor. It’s fun there, with a lot of friendly neighbours and all. I have promised him I’ll stay with him for two months. After that, I’ll see other options.”
“That’s good. Bangalore is an awesome city.”
Atul was saying.
“He was in Bangalore for three years. He…”
Anvita began to say and Prithvi looked at her.
“Yeah. I know. He had told me.”
“Oh, you know very much about him, don’t you?”
“Not everything, but I know about his college days and I know how he fell in love with someone, and other things.”
Prithvi spoke jovially.
Anvita looked at Atul.
“Well, that’s great information you’ve shared with him about me. How about him? What do you know about him? Share with me too.”
Anvita thought Atul would become nervous to talk about Prithvi while looking into her eyes. Only if he cares.
“Well, not much. But I know he’s looking for a girlfriend.”
There was hardly any odd note in his voice and the words actually caught Anvita off guard.
“Wh…what?”
She looked at Prithvi and Atul alternatively. She could not face Atul for long. She was getting frustrated.
Atul went on.
“Staying with uncle is.. well, it’s a debatable choice. It’s more like your parents deploying a GPS on you. You know what I mean…”
Prithvi smiled.
“Definitely.”
“I don’t think you are there without a reason. There must be someone special in your uncle’s neighbourhood you wanna befriend, right?”
Prithvi threw a glance at Anvita before replying.
“No, there is nothing like that.”
“There is nothing wrong buddy. You don’t have to hide anything from me.”
“I swear I don’t.”
“Tell him Prithvi. You can’t hide anything from him. He is good at finding out people’s secrets. I can tell you that.”
Anvita said, and she made sure she didn’t look at Atul as she spoke. She was sure it would reach deeper into his heart.
“No, I swear. I don’t do plans to befriend anyone. I prefer it to happen naturally.”
“You swear? You swear on this?”
Atul laughed. 
Anvita looked at him. “He swore. I think that’s enough for me.”
“You know nothing about him, dear.”
“Why torturing him? Maybe he’s not that type of guy.” She said.
“Wow.” Atul mocked a clap. “You are the right one to tell me this.”
Anvita's heart skipped a beat. She was tense, in a second.
“You have no idea about him,” Atul said again.
“Come one, Atul…” Prithvi raised his hand, trying to draw his attention, trying to stop him.
“What… what are you saying?” Anvita asked, her eyes shuttling between the men.
“He’s the ultimate lover stuff. You have no idea.”
“Come on Atul...“ Prithvi said.
Anvita was now growing curious.
“Shut up Prithvi. Atul, you tell me this. What are you saying?”
“Do you wanna know who his girl was?”
“Please Atul. Leave it. Let’s talk something else.” Prithvi said.
Atul laughed.
“Let’s talk about something else, but later.”
Anvita was bemused.
“I don’t understand anything. Will you tell me or not?
Atul looked at her.
“This gentleman had come to me one day. He said he had fallen for a woman, head over heels. He wanted my help to impress her. Do you have any idea who the woman was? It was none other than you!”
Prithvi looked at Anvita helplessly.
“I didn’t know you were his wife, I swear.”
He said.
“Yeah, he didn’t know. But he wanted to date you. Very seriously. He wanted to make you his girlfriend and I don’t know what dreams he had about you.”
Atul declared further.
 
Prithvi was visibly embarrassed.
Apparently not for Atul's revelations but for the assumption that he was causing Anvita huge embarrassment in front of her husband.
“You know what did he tell me? “
Atul went on.
“He wanted to hold your hand and keep looking into your eyes watching you smile. He wanted to hug you.”
Anvita was speechless at the revelations. But you know he has done more than that.
“I am so sorry.”
Prithvi said in the end.
“Why sorry dude? You are embarrassing yourself. Show some guts, face yourself, buddy.”
Atul teased him further.
“When I found my mistake I was too shy to face him but then I apologised to him."
Prithvi confessed. Atul shook his head.
“Since then I wanted to invite him for lunch. I wanted to see his face when I spilt the beans. Look at him now. Exactly as I thought.”
Atul was laughing honestly.
Anvita wondered how he was putting up such a brilliant performance. He was either a master of acting or a man whose ego was destroyed by unforgivable betrayal. Anvita chose to believe the former for her own comfort, but her mind was racing. Where is he taking it? Isn't he deliberately trying to reveal Prithvi's crush for her? She thought Atul was trying to push them closer than they pretend. Closer.
Perhaps he wants us a breath away from each other.
So close. And intimate too.
 
When Atul refilled Prithvi's glass, Anvita warned him.
“Careful, Atul. Prithvi shouldn’t be drinking too much. He needs to ride his bike to return home.”
“This is just wine, honey," Atul said. “Who gets drunk by wine?”
“I do.”
Anvita quipped.
“Really, do you?”
“Yeah, you never noticed?”
"Last time you did, I think you had finished a full bottle by yourself.”
“Ha ha very funny.”
Atul passed the glass to Prithvi and he readily took it.
“I’ll be alright, Anvita. Don’t worry.”
He assured her.
 
The chat continued between the men and Anvita wished she could divert her mind from her inner thoughts and warnings.
 
She grabbed the TV remote and turned the TV on.
The headlines were playing. One of the news showed a politician’s feet were repeatedly touched by his adulating followers. Quickly it became a subject for them.
“What nonsense! This man is a moron and he’s still got these men who touch his feet like they get something from it.”
“They love him. I think that’s okay.”
Anvita commented.
“Look at that man. He doesn’t even care who’s touching his feet.”
“Yeah, that’s true,” Prithvi said. “Otherwise it’s okay to touch his feet, not only to touch but it’s even cool to bend down and kiss his feet. Isn’t it?”
He was talking very naturally but Anvita knew he was referring to something else. She stole a quick glance at him, and he was smiling at her. She hated him for that.
“You can’t be serious.”
Atul said.
“No. I am serious.”
Prithvi replied.
Atul laughed. “Then you are exaggerating, nobody’s gonna kiss his feet.”
“Maybe not him. But for someone who’s very lovable, it’s just a way to show the depth of love and affection.”
“Really?”
Anvita had changed the channel already but the conversation didn’t move off the topic.
“Why not? The foot is actually like one’s hand. It’s just a body part. Both the hands and legs are collectively called limbs. I have no problem to touch my feet as I keep it very clean. Same goes with other’s foot too.”
“Touching is one thing. But kissing is another.”
Atul argued.
Both the men were discussing trivial things, just for fun. But Anvita was not having fun sitting by them. She was looking at her own feet.
Her dress ended well above her calves. She was aware of Prithvi's fetish for her feet. She suddenly wanted to hide it from his view.
“Kissing is another thing. But it depends on who the person is. If you are close enough to hold someone’s palm passionately, then you can touch that person’s feet with the same level of emotion. What I am saying is, there is not much difference between palm and foot when it’s about showing love and respect.”
“You seem to know a thing about it. But I still disagree. I have no problem to touch, I mean to kiss and even lick Anvita's palm. But I don’t think I’d do the same with her feet.”
Prithvi stared at him and then at Anvita.
“That’s very bad, then.”
His disapproval caught Atul by surprise.
“Come on, Prithvi. You must be kidding. Do you expect me to lick her feet?”
Prithvi tilted his head, affirmatively.
“I think you should do that. She’s got very beautiful feet. I mean, look at them. They look flawless. What’s wrong in showing the love it deserves?”
Anvita interrupted them.
“Come on guys. I don’t want anyone to lick my feet.”
She was beginning to wonder who was actually leading the conversation. It should be Prithvi but he wouldn’t dare to do that himself. He can’t be so clever. It could be Atul but it was impossible because he does not really know what he was talking about.
“This is crazy stuff.”
Atul said, still amused by Prithvi's suggestion.
“This is not. You are underutilising her beauty. You know that I like Anvita ma’am very much. That’s why I am telling you this. I mean, I think anybody would love to do it.”
Anvita's heart was beating faster now. She wanted to get up and stop the conversation. But she couldn’t.
“Okay, let’s take it like this.”
Atul said.
“What you would do if you were in my place? What are you suggesting?”
“Come on, Atul. Stop it. I don’t want you to lick my feet. I really…”
Anvita began to say and Prithvi interrupted her.
“If I were in your place, I...I would love to do it. I mean, yes!”
“You can lick her feet? How long?”
Prithvi shrugged.
“I mean… I can do it… until she says enough!”
“This is ridiculous, guys. Stop it. Somebody listen to me.”
Anvita said. Atul held up his hand.
“Okay, then. Anvi, listen to me. Let him show it. I wanna see how he does it.”
Anvita was stunned.
“What!”
“He’s your great fan here. Let him lick your feet.”
Atul declared.
Anvita thought this whole thing, this whole conversation between her husband and Prithvi was a setup. They both are in a deal. A deal to make me do ridiculous things. Anvita stared at Atul for long and spoke.
“I am not gonna let anyone do…”
“Come on Anvi. It’s going to be fun. Just sit tight.”
Atul said and looked at Prithvi.
“Are you ready?”
Prithvi was nonchalant.
“Of course, why not? But only if she permits.”
He looked at Anvita. She was already scanning him for clues to prove her apprehensions.
For her, she already knew he would lick her feet. Whatever he said to Atul was right. He could lick her feet like he wanted to consume it. Anvita still remembered how he had done it a month ago. She was sure he would love to do it again.
But she was not going to let him do it this time.
“No, I don’t want to do it. I don’t want your love.”
She placed her drink on the centre table.
“I am going to the kitchen. I have a little work there.”
“Come on, Anvi. He’s your fan. He wants to have a taste of your feet. Let him. Just for once. It’s a request from me. Won’t you listen?”
Atul said. Anvita stared at him.
Is he luring me to something else?
First, he wanted her to dress up for him. Then he said Prithvi wanted to date her. Now he wanted her to allow him to lick her feet. He was now allowing the body touch, right in front of his eyes. He’s just trying to break the ice. Or it’s a test. Perhaps he wants to see how far I can go.
“No.”
Anvita shook her head.
“It’s a really bad idea. How is he gonna lick my feet? He’s joking!”
No, he isn’t. He’ll do that. And he’s very good at that. She knew.
Anvita looked at Prithvi and ended up staring at him for long.
“Come and sit down here. Let me show you.”
Prithvi said.
“Please Anvi. It’s going to be fun. Let him have his wish.”
“This is not his wish, this is your stubbornness.”
Anvita blurted and rose to her feet. She took her wine glass and finished it in one sip.
“I can’t believe I am listening to you morons.”
She walked slowly around the centre table and sat on the couch next to Prithvi.
“Come on, you pervert. Do your thing. Prove your manhood.”
“This is not manhood. This is devotion.”
Atul corrected her.
Prithvi got up and knelt down in front of her.
“Which foot?”
He turned to Atul.
“Both.”
Atul said.
Anvita could see his excitement.
She felt Prithvi's hand on her feet. He lifted them both to hold them somewhat straight, and Anvita adjusted her dress to avoid exposing her legs more than wanted. Suddenly she was aware of her bare leg being touched by someone else in the presence of her husband. Her heartbeats took a leap. It was happening.
 
 
Prithvi bent down slightly and kissed on her feet one by one.
“I told you; see how beautiful your legs are.”
He looked up.
“Feet.”
Anvita blurted, shyly.
Prithvi smiled at her.
“Both.”
 
His face went down further and Anvita looked at Atul. He was watching her. He smiled at her and raised his eyebrows, gesturing how she was feeling. Anvita bit her lips. She looked away for a second, shyly, and then smiled at him. Atul gestured at her again, asking the same thing, and she blossomed into another smile and then started giggling.
“You are tickling me, Prithvi.”
Prithvi's had started licking around her foot. His tongue moved from the toes to the ankle while slowly caressing under her heel. He pushed her toes into his mouth and sucked them. His tongue darted between the toes, making Anvita hiss. Prithvi lifted her foot further and licked beneath it.
He was not merely licking; he was expressing his love for it. He was rubbing his lips and even eyes on them. He was worshipping it.
 
In ten minutes he made sure her feet were drenched in his saliva though it dried out quickly.
“Do my feet taste good?”
Anvita asked him, innocently. She was embarrassed at the change in her voice. She was aroused. She prayed Atul didn’t notice.
Prithvi looked up and smiled.
“You taste amazing.”
Anvita felt shy. He knows how I taste. Fuck.
 She turned to Atul.
“My feet are clean now, will you tell him to stop?”
“You’ve left me speechless, buddy. I must admit.”
Atul said. He was genuinely living the surprise of his life.
Prithvi got up.
“Did you enjoy it?”
He asked Anvita. She forced a laugh out of embarrassment. She knew everyone knew how much she had enjoyed it.
“Say!”
Prithvi said again.
“Yeah. Yes. It was really special. Let me wash my feet first.”
She said and got up and hurried to the washroom without waiting to see Atul's reaction. She felt her body light. She thought she was wet, somewhere.
 
It was drizzling while they had dinner. Prithvi liked Anvita's cooking and he thanked them for the dinner.
“I thought I was gonna miss this. But you guys made it possible.”
He commented.
By the time dinner was over, the rain had turned into heavy pouring.
“It’s not going to stop tonight. It is like this every night.”
Atul said.
“How are you gonna ride your bike in this rain?” Anvita worried. “You should drop him home, Atul.”
“No, I am okay. I am quite familiar with riding in the rain.”
Prithvi said.
“No, we can’t let you do that. You are leaving for Bangalore tomorrow and I don’t want your dad to blame us when you catch the fever. Atul will drop you home; that’s it.”
“I suggest you stay over,” Atul said. “Why should you leave now? You can leave in the morning.”
Prithvi turned to him.
“I’ll have to tell day, first.”
Anvita's mind had begun to alarm. But it was not in her hands. She watched silently as Prithvi phoned his dad and got his permission in two seconds.
“Okay, I’ll stay.”
Prithvi said.
“See, problem solved.”
Atul snapped.
Anvita was already walking to the kitchen.
 
She was doing the dish when Prithvi sneakily walked behind her.
“Anvita...”
He moved behind her and his arms went around her. Anvita was startled.
“What are you doing? Get off me!”
Her voice was low, filled with caution.
“He's not here.”
Prithvi said. “He went down to take something from the car.”
Anvita was stunned.
What! Her heart skipped a beat. Did he just leave me alone with Prithvi?
Prithvi had his arms around her and he turned her to face him.
“I hope you won't push me down on the floor now.”
He whispered and kissed her. Anvita stood there, unsure of how to respond. Her head was spinning. He left me here for this!
Prithvi moved forward and pressed his body against her. Anvita was losing grip over herself. Her lips had parted. And in no time, her hands moved behind his head and she kissed him back.
Everything was happening in a flash. Their tongues were dancing together. His hands moved around her body, feeling over her dress, feeling her softness and curves.
“Anvita...”
His soft voice was now lustful. He broke the long kiss and smiled in a hurry.
“Oh my God! You are heavenly...”
Anvita could merely blush.
Prithvi's face lowered, this time he went for her neck. Anvita's breathing escalated; she made no attempt to stop him. There was no need to. Her husband had granted her a gift. He knows what is happening here. Perhaps he's gonna peak into the bedroom while I made love to his friend.
