Anvita had come back to the hall and George had made her stand in front of him; facing him. When she looked at him tears rolled down her cheeks.
“I…” She was a loss for words.
“I am sorry.”
That was all she could mumble.
“You know what will happen when Atul know of it?”

“George…” Anvita felt the earth under her feet shaking. “Please… I beg you. It was a mistake. It wasn’t intentional.”

Anvita’s face had turned to stone.
“Please don’t tell him.”
George leaned forward.
“Don’t worry, Anvita,” he assured her. “I won’t tell him. Not a word.”
 Anvita could not believe him for a moment.
“You won’t tell him?”
He nodded.
“But only if you give me a reason to protect your secret.”
“What reason?”
“A favour. We should have our own secret.”
“I don’t understand… what favour?”
He touched her face, caressed her cheek as if to wipe off the tears. She turned her face slightly left, eyes still on him.
“I am going to be very honest with you now, Anvita. You already know I like you very much. I want to have an hour with you, in your bed. Do you agree?”
Anvita’s mind went blank. The earth under her feet was now beginning to skid away.
“No,” Anvita moved back and slipped and felled into the sofa. She didn’t care to stand up. “George… Don’t do this to me. George was saying something of which not a single word made it into her head. She grabbed on the hand rest of the couch with her trembling hands. She knew her fate hung on her answer. Anvita spoke up. She did not want to think any further.

George’s face lit up.

“You have my word, Anvita. I am doing this because I am tired of my sleepless nights. Your moaning, your cries; you have left me with no passion for anything else. “You won’t believe me, I had dreamt of this moment when I saw you first time with Atul. I thought it was just a dream like any other one. I never thought it would ever become a reality.”
