मानव आज जहाँ है, वहाँ प्रारम्भमें ही नहीं पहुँच गया था, इसके लिये उसे बड़े बड़े संघषोंसे गुजरना पड़ा। मानव समाजकी प्रगतिका सैद्धान्तिक विवेचन मैंने अपने ग्रन्थ ‘मानव समाज’ मे किया है। इसका सरल चित्रण भी किया जा सकता है, और उससे प्रगतिके समझनेमें आसानी हो सकती है, इसी ख्यालने मुझे ‘वोल्गा से गंगा” लिखनेके लिये मजबूर किया। मैंने यहाँसे हिन्दी-युरोपीय जातिकी लिया है, जिसमे भारतीय पाठकोंको सुभीता होगा। मिश्री सुरियानी या सिन्धु-बाति, विकासमें, हिन्दी-युरोपीय जातिसे सहस्राब्दियों पहिले अग्रसर हुई थी, किन्तु उनको लेने पर लेखक और पाठक दोनोंकी कठिनाइयाँ बढ़ जातीं।
मैंने हर एक कालके समाजकी प्रामाणिक तौरसे चित्रित करनेकी कोशिश की है, किन्तु ऐसे प्राथमिक प्रयल मे गलतियाँ होना स्वाभाविक हैं। यदि मेरे प्रयवने आगेके लेखकोको ज्यादा शुद्ध चित्रण करनेमे सहायताकी, तो मैं अपनेको कृतकार्य समझेगा।
‘बखुलमज्ञ’के (बुद्ध):काल पर मैने एक स्वतंत्र उपन्यास‘सिह सेनापति” लिखा है।

మనిషి నేడు ఉన్న స్థితిలో ప్రారంభం నుంచీ లేడు. ఈ స్థితికి రావడానికి ఎన్నో గట్టి పోరాటాలు చెయ్యవలసి వచ్చింది. "మానవ సమాజం" అన్న పుస్తకంలో నేను మానవ సమాజ వికాసాన్ని గురించి సిద్ధాంతపరమైన వివేచన చేశాను. దాన్నే సరళంగా చెప్పొచ్చు. ఆ సరళ చిత్రణ వల్ల మానవ సమాజం ఎలా వికాసం చెందిందో అర్థం చేసుకోవడం తేలిక అవుతుందన్న అభిప్రాయం కలిగింది. దాంతో "వోల్గా నుంచి గంగకు" రాశాను. ఇందులో నేను మనదేశపు పాఠకుల సౌలభ్యం కోసం ఇండోయూరోపియన్ జాతిని తీసుకున్నాను.
వికాస దృష్ట్యా ఈజిప్టు, సురియానీ లేదా సింధు జాతులు ఇండోయూరోపియను జాతి కన్నా వేల సంవత్సరాలు ముందు ఉన్నాయి. కాని వాటిని తీసుకున్నట్లయితే రచయితకీ, పాఠకులకి కూడా ఇబ్బందులు ఎక్కువవుతాయి. ప్రతి కాలంలోని సమాజాన్నీ నేను ప్రామాణికంగా చిత్రించడానికి ప్రయత్నించాను. కాని మొదటి ప్రయత్నంలో తప్పులు దొర్లడం సహజం. ఇంకా ప్రామాణికంగా శుద్ధంగా చిత్రించడానికి ముందు ముందు రాబోయే రచయితలకి నా ప్రయత్నం దోహదపడతాయి అనుకుంటాను.

Subramania Bharati, the great Tamil poet, can be rightfully regarded as the first nationalist poet of India. His poems, with almost visionary quality, pleaded for an integrated India, exhorting Indians to ignore regional and other rivalries and think in terms of'India'. Mahakavi Bharatiyar is also regarded as a pioneer of modern Tamil poetry. Through his lyrics in Swadesa Gitangal (1908) and Janma Bhoomi (1909), he popularized the concept of nationalism. His songs and poems are popular even today. This book gives an insight into the life and times of this great son of India.
A fine scholar and literary critic, S. Vijaya Bharati is the grand-daughter of the poet. A graduate of the Madras and Annamalai Universities, she earned her doctorate in 1967 on A Critical Study of Bharati's Works. She has numerous articles and two books on Bharati to her credit.
