Chapter 29

Anvita

Anvita lay sleepless in the bed. Whenever she closed her eyes, the thrumming sound of the water filled her ears. The cold breeze began to caress her feet and it embraced all of her body. And still, she felt her lips warm.
Come back, stupid.
Later, somehow she found sleep only to wake up in the middle of a dream. She could not remember her dream and name it a good one or a bad one.
Did I moan in my dream?
She felt her mind warm and body cold. She grabbed a pillow and squeezed it tight between her chest and hands.

She slept until Atul phoned her in the morning. He had met his contact last night, but he was still far from closing a deal.
“I am having lunch with him today.”
“You are not coming today, are you?”
“No. If things end up well, he will introduce me to his boss.”
“Things will end up well, Atul!” Anvita tried to encourage him.
“Thanks, Anvi. See you soon.”

Shreyas called her later.
“How about dinner tonight, Anvi?”
“No.”
She said straightaway.
Dinner is dangerous. She knew.
“There is this live music that everyone’s talking about. I have the tickets ready. If you say no, I am sure it is because of what happened yesterday. You should have slapped me, Anvi. That was way better than this.”
“Shreyas...I...”
“Anvi... We will have dinner and I will drop you home before it’s too dark. I mean we won’t wait to finish the program. Please.”
Anvita let out a sigh. She was indecisive.
"Shreyas..."
"Please, Anvi."

She said again.

It was one of the most impressive live music performance Anvita had ever witnessed. The band members were passionate and their numbers were romantic. The crowd sat in awe and sunk into a world of fantasy. Anvita looked around at once and noticed that most of the audience were couples. She felt among them. She looked at Shreyas and smiled. She had barely smiled at him until then.
“How do you feel now?”
“It’s very impressive.”
“I told you.”
However, she decided to leave, after one hour.
“I don't really want to leave, but it’s getting late, Shreyas. I hate to say it, but we must leave now.”
Shreyas put down his drink.
“Sure. Let’s have some food.”
There were many sections for food and they sat at one. It was already past eleven o’clock. It was late for dinner and Anvita chose light food as her appetite was gone. The food was delicious.
Anvita was happy and thrilled when they walked out.
“You are smiling. May I know why?”
Shreyas took her hand as they entered the lift.
“I can't believe I am here. I have attended the most impressive musical night I have ever seen.”
She paused, and her smile was gone.
“...and Atul has no idea. If he takes me to one in the future...”
“It will be different, Anvita.”
“How?”
“He is your husband. You love him. I am not Atul.”
There was an odd note in his voice. Anvita felt his fingers becoming tighter around hers.
"Stop being emotional. I can't believe I'm hanging out with you when my husband is away. If someone saw me with you and told him, I'm dead. Have you thought about it?"
"If that happens, ever, you can tell it's the first time. You can blame me that I was forcing you, dragging you and all."
"What will I say to Atul? Shouldn't I have told him?"
"You can tell you phoned him but he was not reachable."
"You are really crooked. You're making me lie to him!" Anvita blamed.
"It's a small lie; not a big deal, Anvi," he smiled. "It's something we learn from our profession. We have to lie looking into the eyes of the person sitting across the desk. That's how we win those deals. But it's different for how we feel about each other. Like now; I can't lie about it. I'm really happy."
“I too enjoyed a lot," Anvita admitted. "I will cherish this night for long.”
They walked hand in hand toward their car.
“The only sad point is that I won’t be able to share these memories with anyone.”
He looked at her.
“It’s the same for me too. You know, my dinner dates have never been like this. The time we spent together - I will cherish them all in my memories too. It’s a good thing that we can't share it with anyone else, because there is a ‘we’ thing in it. It makes me feel we are together, in some way. We hold a secret between us and it is thrilling.”
Anvita smiled at him. 
She was amazed at the way he was leading the conversation. He was not the guy who'd 'piss in his pants' talking to women. He was not even the freaked out chap she had come across at their first meeting. He was something more. He was mature.


Their car was sandwiched between two closely parked cars. The door was not accessible from either side.
“What a stupidity!”
Shreyas blurted.
“What are we gonna do now? We are stuck!”
Anvita worried.
“Not yet. There is a way out for everything.”


Shreyas opened the rear door as much as possible. The door touching the next car.
"It's not enough for me but I think you can get in."
The passage was still narrow.

He opened the boot door and opened its top portion to make way to the back seat.

He got inside the dickey and put his head through the open space. It was difficult.

He laughed.
“You are not. That gap is also very small.”
Anvita said.
“Can you give me a hand from inside?”
He was unable to hold onto anything inside. She grabbed his one hand and pulled him in. It took some effort though finally, he made it. He then put his hands under her armpit to pull her carefully inside. His hands were strong and Anvita noticed it as she felt it rubbing at the sides of her breasts. She ignored it comfortably as her prime concern was to keep her dress unspoiled. Luckily, they succeeded and they both sat in the back seat, breathing hard.

His voice was very low but she heard him clearly. They stared into each other. He took her hand in his hand. Without realising what she was doing, Anvita leaned forward and submitted herself into his lips. He kissed her and this time it was nothing like the previous day. Anvita walked toward the lift. It was dark in the stairs. The moment she stepped out of the lift into the walkway in the fourth floor, she stopped suddenly, as a shadow moved in front of her. It was dark in the walkway, but the shadow was too familiar to be unrecognisable, and she froze right there.

Yes it is writter's plane to keep the readers to get exited about the story. he is explaining every feeling of atul in every situation.
