The website had been vague about fees, but the consultation is expensive.
 
He had paid it without hesitation.
 
He would have paid anything.
 
The door at the far end of the room opened.
 
Dr. Anjali Rao walked toward them.
 
She was in her forties, tall and elegant, with silver-streaked hair pulled back in a loose knot and dark eyes that seemed to take in everything at once.
 
She wore a simple cotton saree, deep maroon, no embellishment, and she moved with the easy confidence of someone who had spent years in rooms like this, putting nervous people at ease.
 
"Mr. Naveen," she said, offering her hand.
 
"Mrs. Seema. I'm Dr. Anjali Rao. Thank you for coming in."
 
Her handshake was warm and firm.
 
She held Seema's hand a moment longer than necessary, looking into her eyes with an expression of genuine kindness.
 
"I know this isn't easy," she said.
 
"Coming to a place like this. Talking to a stranger about something so private. I want you to know that whatever you share with me stays in this room. And there is no judgment here, only help."
 
Naveen felt something loosen in his chest.
 
He hadn't realized how tense he was until that moment.
 
Beside him, he saw Seema's shoulders drop, just slightly, and he knew she had felt it too.
 
"Please," Anjali said, gesturing to the door.
 
"Come through."
 
 
 
She led them to a consultation room that was as calm as the reception area, soft lighting, comfortable chairs, a small desk with a vase of fresh flowers.
 
There was a window that looked out onto a garden, and Naveen could see a small courtyard with a fountain and a few benches.
 
It was peaceful.
 
It was the kind of place where you could imagine telling your secrets.
