Rohan pulled her close, wrapping his arms around her, feeling her soft body press against his.

She nestled against his chest, her cheek resting over his heart, and he stroked her back with slow, soothing circles.

"I don't know what's wrong with me," she whispered into his skin.

"I want you. I want this. But when it comes down to it, "

"Your body remembers," he said softly, understanding dawning in his voice.

"It remembers being hurt. It remembers being used. And it's protecting you."

"Yes." Her voice was muffled, thick with tears. "Yes. That's exactly it."

"And you need to trust," he continued, his hand still stroking her back.

"You need to feel safe. Completely safe. And I'm going to give you that. I'm going to make you feel so safe."

She looked up at him, her eyes red-rimmed and vulnerable. "Promise?"

"I promise." He kissed her forehead. "I swear it on my life. I will never, ever hurt you. I will never push you. I will never take what you're not ready to give."

They lay in silence for a long moment, his hand tracing lazy patterns on her back, her body slowly relaxing against his.

He could feel the tension draining from her, could hear her breathing evening out.

"Will you stay?" she whispered. "Just for a little while?"

"I'll stay as long as you want me to." He pressed a kiss to the top of her head. "I'm not going anywhere."

He held her close, feeling her heartbeat against his chest, feeling the warmth of her body pressed against his.

His own body still clamored for release, still throbbed with unsatisfied desire, but he forced it down, forced himself to focus on her, on her comfort, on her peace.

"I love you," he said softly, the words slipping out unbidden.

She looked up at him, her eyes widening. "You really mean that?"

"I really mean it." He cupped her face, his thumb stroking her cheek.

"I love you, Mamta. I've loved you since the first time I saw you. And I will love you for the rest of my life."
