జుట్టుకి డై వేసుకోవడం అయ్యాక, రాధ బట్టల్ని చేతితో ఉతికి, వాటిని పిండకుండా, దండెం మీద వేసి, స్నానానికి వెళ్ళింది. 'వాషింగ్ మెషిన్ కొనుక్కోవచ్చు కదా. ఇంత కష్టపడడం ఎందుకు? ఉతికిన బట్టల్ని పిండకుండా వదిలేసేరేమిటి? ఆ బరువుకి దండం తెగి పడిపోతే ఏం చేస్తారు?' అనుకుంది జాగృతి. రాధ స్నానం చేసి వచ్చి, ఉతికిన బట్టలని డాబా మీదకి తీసుకెళ్ళి, అక్కడున్న దండాన్ని రిన్ తో తుడిచి, మడతలు పడకుండా బట్టలన్నింటినీ ఆరేసింది. రాధ పనితీరుకు జాగృతి ఆశ్చర్యపోతూ, 'బట్టలకి క్లిప్పులు మర్చిపోయారా ఈవిడ?' అనుకుంది.

రాధ మళ్ళీ ఎవరు తనని చూడటంలేదని నిర్దారించుకుని, తన జుట్టుని విప్పి ఆరబెట్టుకుంది. పైపైన కనపడే వెంట్రులకు మాత్రమే డై వేసుకుని, లోపల వెంట్రుకల్ని తెల్లగానే రాధ వదిలెయ్యడాన్ని జాగృతి గమనించింది.

'బట్టలకి క్లిప్పులు పెట్టడం మర్చిపోలేదన్నమాట. అవి అర్ సమయంలో ఈవిడ జుట్టుని ఎవరు చూడకుండా ఆరబెట్టుకుందన్నమాట!!' అనుకుంది జాగృతి. బట్టలు, జుట్టు ఆరేంతవరకు డాబా మీదే ఉండి, బట్టల్ని మడతపెట్టి, దాబా మీదనుండి కిందకి దిగింది.

అప్పుడే బయటనుండి వచ్చిన మాణిక్యాలరావు రాధ చేతికి డబ్బులిచ్చి, "నిన్నే వెతుకుంటున్నాను. ఎక్కడున్నావ్ ఇంతసేపూ. పెన్షన్ డబ్బులు వచ్చాయి. జాగ్రత్తగా దాచు. పొదుపుగా ఖర్చు చెయ్యి." అని చెప్పాడు.

"నా పొదుపు గురించి మీకు తెలియదా? క్లిప్పులకి, ఇస్త్రీకి కూడా ఖర్చుపెట్టాను నేను. చక్కగా మడతలు పడకుండా బట్టల్ని ఆరేసి, అవి ఎగిరిపోకుండా చూసుకుంటూ, ఆరేంతవరకు ఎండలోనే కూర్చుంటాను. నాకు జాగ్రత్త గురించి చెప్పాల్సిన అవసరం లేదు. ఉద్యోగం చేస్తున్నామన్న పొగరుతో దుబారా ఖర్చులు చేసేవారికి చెప్పండి పొదుపు పాఠాలు." అని జాగృతిని చూస్తూ అంది రాధ.

మాణిక్యాలరావు, జాగృతిని చిరాకుగా చూస్తూ, "మీ అత్తగారు చెప్పేది అర్ధమయ్యిందా? ఆవిడ దగ్గర పొదుపు నేర్చుకో. ఇంజనీరింగ్ చదివాను, ఉద్యోగం చేస్తున్నానన్న పొగరు మా దగ్గర చూపించకు." అన్నాడు.

'ఎన్ని మాటలు అనిపిస్తోంది ఈవిడ. నేను ఈవిడ దగ్గర పొదుపు పాఠాలు నేర్చుకోవాలా? నాకేమన్నా జుట్టు తెల్లబడిందా ఈవిడలాగా? బట్టలు ఉతకటానికాని వెళ్ళి, ఎవరికీ కనపడకుండా హెయిర్ డై వేసుకుకోవడానికి. బట్టలు ఆరేంతవరకూ ఎండలోనే ఉన్నానని చెప్పి, ఎవరికీ కనపడకుండా జుట్టు ఆరబెట్టుకోవడానికి?' అని రాధని మనసులోనే తిట్టుకుంది జాగృతి.

మాణిక్యాలరావు జాగృతిని తిడుతుంటే, రాధ మోహంలో సంతోషంతో వెలిగిపోయింది. ఆ సంతోషంలో వంట చెయ్యడానికి వెళ్ళింది. 'ఇప్పటివరకూ శుచి శుభ్రత, పొదుపు పాఠాలని నేర్చుకోమని తిట్టించిన ఈవిడ, వంట ఎలా చేస్తారో, వంటింటిని ఎలా సర్దుకున్నారో చూద్దాం.' అనుకుంటూ వంటింటిలోకి చూసింది జాగృతి. వంటిల్లంతా బూజుతో, దుమ్ముతో నిండివుంది. డబ్బాలలో ఉండాల్సిన బియ్యం, పప్పులు, పోపు దినుసులులాంటివన్నీ ప్యాకెట్లలో ఉన్నాయి.

'వంటింటిని కూడా శుభ్రంగా ఉంచటం లేదు ఈవిడ. తన భర్త ఏమీ పట్టించుకోడు, తనేం చెప్పినా నమ్ముతాడన్న నమ్మకంతో తన గురించి అన్నీ మంచిగా చెప్పుకుని, నన్ను తిట్టిస్తోంది. ఏముంది ఈవిడ మనసులో?' అనుకుంది.

వంట చెయ్యడం అయ్యాక, రాధ మాణిక్యాలరావుని భోజనానికి పిలిచి, వండిన పదార్ధాలని వడ్డించింది. జాగృతిని లాగి, "రా అమ్మ. నువ్వు కూడా తిను. నీకొచ్చిన పని ఇదొక్కటే కదా." అని డైనింగ్ టేబుల్ దగ్గర కూర్చోబెట్టింది.

రాధ అంటున్న మాటలు, ఆవిడ ప్రవర్తన జాగృతిని చాలా బాధపెట్టాయి. జాగృతికి తినాలనిపించలేదు. తినే కంచాల పక్కనే జుట్టు, దువ్వెన, మొహానికి రాసుకునే పౌడర్ ఉండడం చూసి, రాధ రిన్ తో కంచాలని కడిగిన విధానం గుర్తువచ్చి, జాగృతికి కడుపులో తిప్పినట్టు అయ్యింది. అసహ్యంతో, కన్నీళ్ళతో, తినకుండా అక్కడనుండి లేచి వెళ్ళిపోయింది.

జాగృతిని వెళ్ళిపోవడాన్ని చూసి, "చూసారా దీని పొగరు. దీనికి పని నేర్పిస్తానని నా కొడుకుకి చెప్పాను. ఇది ఏమీ నేర్చుకోదు. ఇలాంటిదానితో నా కొడుకు బతుకు ఏమైపోతుందో ఏమో!! ఈవిడ ఉద్యోగానికి వెళ్ళిపోతే, నా కొడుకే వంట చేసుకుని, దీనికి పెట్టాలేమో!! ఈవిడ తిన్న కంచాలని కూడా వాడే కడుగుతాడేమో. నా ఖర్మ కొద్దీ వచ్చింది ఇలాంటి చదువుకున్న, ఉద్యోగం వెలగబెడుతున్న కోడలు." అని ఏడుస్తూ మాణిక్యాలరావుకు చెప్పింది రాధ.

మాణిక్యాలరావు కోపంతో, సమర్థ్ కి ఫోన్ చేసాడు. "మీ ఆవిడ ప్రవర్తన బాగులేదు. ఎవరి మాట వినదు. ఏ పని రాదు. మీ అమ్మ నేర్చుకోమని చెప్తున్నా, నేర్చుకోవడంలేదు. ఒక్క పనిలో కూడా సాయం చెయ్యలేదు. మీ అమ్మ కష్టపడి, వండి పెడితే, అది కూడా తినకుండా వెళ్ళిపోయింది. పెద్దవాళ్ళంటే గౌరవం లేదు. ఇలాంటి దానితో నువ్వు బతకలేవు. ఈ పిల్లని వాళ్ళ అమ్మ దగ్గరికి పంపించెయ్యాలని నిర్ణయించుకున్నాం. ఉద్యోగం మానేసి, పనులు నేర్చుకుని వస్తే, ముని దగ్గరికి వస్తుంది. లేదంటే ఇక ఆ అమ్మాయిని మర్చిపో." అని చెప్పాడు. రాధ కూడా ఫోన్ తీసుకుని, "నీకు ఈ పిల్ల సరైనది కాదని నేను ముందునుండి చెప్తున్నాను. నువ్వు వినలేదు. చక్కగా ఇంటి పనులు చేసుకునే ఇంకో పిల్లని ఇచ్చి పెళ్ళి చేస్తాను నీకు" అని చెప్పింది.

రాధ గురించి జాగృతికి పూర్తిగా అర్ధమయ్యింది. ఏ ఉద్దేశంతో, తనతో అలా ప్రవర్తించిందో తెలిసింది. ఉద్యోగం ఎట్టి పరిస్థితిలోనూ మానకూడదని నిర్ణయించుకుంది. కానీ అప్పటికి సమర్థ్ గురించి ఏమీ తెలియని జాగృతి, తను ఎలాంటివాడో, వీళ్ళ మాటలు విని ఎం నిర్ణయం తీసుకుంటాడో అనుకుంది.

మాణిక్యాలరావు చెప్పిదంతా విన్న సమర్థ్, "వాళ్ళ అమ్మ దగ్గరికి పంపిస్తే, ఇంకా తిని పడుకుంటుంది నాన్నా. అమ్మ దగ్గర కూడా పని నేర్చుకోవటంలేదంటే, ఎలాంటిదో తెలుస్తోంది కదా. నా దగ్గరకే పంపించండి. చూస్తూండండి. ఉద్యోగం మాన్పించి, దాని చేత పని చేయించి, దాని తిక్క ఎలా కుదురుస్తానో." అని చెప్పాడు. సమర్థ్ మాటలకి రాధ సంతోషించింది.

తరువాత, జాగృతికి ఫోన్ చేసాడు సమర్థ్. "నువ్వింక అక్కడ ఉండలేవన్న సంగతి నాకు అర్ధమయ్యింది. తొందరగా బట్టలు సర్దుకుని రెడీగా ఉండు. రేపటికి నీకు టికెట్ కొని పంపిస్తాను." అని చెప్పాడు.

జాగృతి, సమర్థ్ దగ్గరికి వెళ్ళాక, జరిగిందంతా అడిగి తెలుసుకుని, అర్ధం చేసుకున్నాడు. జాగృతి చేత సమర్థ్ పనులు చేయిస్తున్నాడో లేదో, ఉద్యోగం మాన్పించాడోలేదోనని తెలుసుకోవడానికి రాధ, సమర్థ్ కి ఫోన్ చేసింది.

"చక్కగా పనులు చేస్తోందమ్మా. ముగ్గుపిండి మధ్యలో బ్రష్ లు, టాంగ్ క్లీనర్ లు, చెప్పులు, పూల బుట్టలు ఉంచదు. గిన్నెలను రిన్ తో తోమదు. వంటింటిట్లో బూజులు ఉండవు. ఇల్లంతా ఇంద్రభవనంలా ఉంచుతోంది. ఇంక వంట అంటావా? ఇన్నాళ్లు రెస్టారంట్ లో తిన్నవాడిని నేను. అంతకన్నా చక్కగా వండుతోంది. నేను కూడా ఇప్పుడు అన్నీ పనులు తన దగ్గర నేర్చుకుంటున్నాను. ఎప్పటికైనా పనికొస్తాయి కదా. ఏమంటావ్?" అని చెప్పాడు.

వింటున్న రాధ బుర్ర తిరిగింది. మొహం మాడిపోయింది. జాగృతి చేత ఉద్యోగం మానిపించాలని, జాగృతి పరువుని తీద్దామనుకుంది. కానీ ఇప్పుడు తన పరువే పోయింది.

అత్తగారి ఇంట్లో ఆరాధ్య

పెళ్లి అనేది ఒక కొత్త జీవితానికి ఆరంభం. కానీ కొన్ని అమ్మాయిలకు అది కలల ముగింపు కూడా అవుతుంది. “అత్తగారి ఇంట్లో ఆరాధ్య” కథ ఒక కోడలి మనసులోని నిశ్శబ్ద బాధలను, ప్రేమ కోసం ఎదురుచూసే హృదయాన్ని స్పష్టంగా చూపిస్తుంది.

పెళ్లి అనే మాట వినగానే ఆరాధ్య కళ్లలో వెలుగు మెరుస్తుండేది. ఆమె కలల్లో ఒక ఇల్లు ఉండేది… ఆ ఇంట్లో ప్రేమ ఉండేది… తనను అర్థం చేసుకునే భర్త ఉండేవాడు. కానీ, ఆ కలలన్నీ ఒకరోజే మసకబారిపోయాయి. అది ఆరాధ్య పెళ్లి రోజు.

ఆరాధ్య పెళ్లి అయిన రోజు అందరూ నవ్వారు, కానీ ఆ నవ్వుల వెనుక ఒక నిజం దాగి ఉంది.

ఆమె భర్త రాహుల్ తన జీవితంలో ఆమెకు స్థానం ఇవ్వలేకపోయాడు. పని పేరుతో దూరంగా ఉండేవాడు…

కాల్ చేయడం కూడా అరుదే. ఆమె మాట్లాడాలని ప్రయత్నిస్తే, “బిజీగా ఉన్నాను” అన్న మాటతోనే ముగించేవాడు.

అలా ఆమె ఒంటరిగా ఆ ఇంట్లో మిగిలింది. ఆ ఇంటి పేరు “అత్తగారి ఇల్లు”, కానీ ఆమెకు అది ఒక పరాయి స్థలం.

మొదట్లో ఆమె అత్త గౌరవంగా మాట్లాడింది, కానీ రోజులు గడుస్తున్న కొద్దీ మాటలు మారాయి… చూపులు మారాయి… ఆప్యాయతలు మాయమయ్యాయి.

“నీ వల్లే మా కొడుకు దూరం అయ్యాడు,” అని ఒక రోజు ఆమె అత్త గట్టిగా అరిచింది.

ఆరాధ్య ఆశ్చర్యపోయింది. “నేను ఏం చేశాను అత్తగారు?” అని అడిగింది.

“నీకు అర్హత లేదు ఈ ఇంట్లో ఉండడానికి,” అన్న ఆమె అత్తగారి మాటలు కత్తుల్లా గుచ్చుకున్నాయి.

ఆ రోజు మొదలైంది నిజమైన బాధ.

ప్రతి ఉదయం ఆమెకు ఒక పరీక్ష. వంటలో చిన్న తప్పు చేసినా తిట్లు… ఆలస్యంగా లేస్తే తిట్లు… మాట్లాడినా తప్పే, మౌనంగా ఉన్నా తప్పే. అవమానం… అవమానం…

అవమానం… అవమానం…

“నీ తల్లిదండ్రులు నీకు ఏం నేర్పారు? నువ్వు ఏమి నేర్చుకున్నావు?”

అని అత్త అన్న మాటలు ఆమె మనసును ముక్కలుగా చీల్చాయి.

రాత్రిళ్లు ఆమె గది మూసుకుని ఏడ్చేది. ఎవరికీ చెప్పుకోలేని బాధ.

ఫోన్ తీసుకుని రాహుల్‌కు కాల్ చేయాలని అనిపించేది… కానీ వెంటనే ఆలోచించేది, “అతను వినడానికైనా సమయం కేటాయిస్తాడా?” అని.

ఒక రోజు, చాలా బాధతో ఆమె కాల్ చేసింది.

“రాహుల్… నాకు చాలా బాధగా ఉంది,” అని ఆమె గొంతులో మాట పలుకుతుండగానే,

“ఇప్పుడే మీటింగ్‌లో ఉన్నాను. తర్వాత మాట్లాడుకుందాం,” అని అతను చెప్పి కాల్ కట్ చేశాడు.

ఆ ఒక్క మాట ఆమె ఆశలను పూర్తిగా చంపేసింది.

ఆమెకు అర్థమైంది, ఈ ఇంట్లో ఆమెకు ఎవరూ లేరని.

రోజులు గడుస్తున్నాయి… కానీ ఆమె నవ్వు తిరిగి రాలేదు. కళ్లలో వెలుగు మాయమైంది. ఒకప్పుడు కలలతో నిండిన ఆ అమ్మాయి, ఇప్పుడు నిశ్శబ్దంగా జీవిస్తోంది.

ఒక సాయంత్రం, ఆమె అత్తగారు మళ్లీ తిట్టింది. ఈసారి కారణం కూడా లేకుండా.

“నీ వల్ల మా ఇంట్లో శాంతి లేదు,” అని అరిచింది.

ఆ మాట విన్న ఆరాధ్య కళ్లలో నీళ్లు నిండాయి. కానీ ఈసారి ఆమె ఏడవలేదు, కేవలం నిశ్శబ్దంగా నిలబడి ఉంది.

ఆమె గదిలోకి వెళ్లి అద్దం ముందు నిల్చుంది.

“ఇదేనా నా జీవితం?” అని తనని తాను అడిగింది.

ఆమె ముఖంలో ఒక ప్రశ్న… ఒక బాధ… ఒక ఖాళీ.

ఆ రాత్రి ఆమె డైరీ తీసుకుని ఇలా రాసింది:

“నన్ను అర్థం చేసుకునే ఒక మనిషి కోసం నేను ఎదురు చూశాను. కానీ ఇప్పుడు అర్థమైంది… నేను… నేనే నాకు తోడుగా ఉండాలి.

ఈ బాధ నాకు అంతం కాదు… కానీ ఇది నా కథలో ఒక భాగం.”

ఆమె కళ్లలో కన్నీళ్లు ఉన్నా, ఆ మాటల్లో ఒక ధైర్యం ఉంది.

ఆరాధ్య ఇంకా అదే ఇంట్లో ఉంది… అదే బాధల మధ్య. కానీ ఇప్పుడు ఆమె మౌనం బలహీనత కాదు,

అది ఒక గట్టిగా నిలబడే నిర్ణయం.

ఎందుకంటే కొన్ని గాయాలు కనిపించవు… కానీ అవే మనసును బలంగా మార్చేస్తాయి.

కోడలు అంటే కేవలం ఇంటికి వచ్చిన అమ్మాయి కాదు… ఆమె కూడా ఒక ఇంటి ఆడబిడ్డ.

ఆమె ఎప్పుడో ఎవరో ఇంట్లో ప్రేమతో పెరిగిన కూతురు… కలలతో పెరిగిన అమ్మాయి.

ఆమె తన తల్లిదండ్రులను, తన బాల్యాన్ని, తన ఆత్మీయతను వదిలి… మీ ఇంటిని తన ఇంటిగా మార్చుకోవడానికి వచ్చింది.

ఆమెను గాయపరచకండి… మాటలతో అయినా, ప్రవర్తనతో అయినా.

ఎందుకంటే ఆమె హృదయం కూడా మిగతా వారిలానే నాజూకుగా ఉంటుంది.

ఆమెను అవమానించకండి, ఎందుకంటే ప్రతి అవమానం ఆమె మనసులో ఒక మచ్చగా మిగిలిపోతుంది.

ఆమె కూడా ఒక కూతురు… ఒక భార్య… ఒక తల్లి… రేపు ఒక అత్తగా మారబోయే అమ్మ.

మీరు ఈ రోజు ఆమెతో ఎలా ప్రవర్తిస్తారో, అదే ఆమె మనసులో ఒక గాయంగా కానీ, ఒక జ్ఞాపకంగా కానీ నిలుస్తుంది.

ఆమె నవ్వు వెనుక ఉన్న బాధను గమనించండి… ఆమె మౌనం వెనుక ఉన్న కన్నీళ్లను అర్థం చేసుకోండి.

ఆమెను ప్రేమతో చూసుకుంటే… ఆమె మీ ఇంటిని స్వర్గంలా మార్చగలదు.

కానీ మీరు ఆమె మనసును నొప్పిస్తే, ఆమె మౌనంగా కన్నీళ్లు కార్చుకుంటూ తన బాధను దాచుకుంటుంది.

ఆ బాధ ఎప్పటికీ మానని గాయంగా మారుతుంది.

కోడలు ఒక పరాయి ఆడబిడ్డ కాదు… ఆమెను కూతురిలా చూసుకోండి.

అప్పుడు మాత్రమే ఒక ఇంటికి నిజమైన సంతోషం వస్తుంది.

మితృలు ఎవరికన్నా ఆసక్తి ఉంటె ఇక్కడ పెడతాను, ఒకదాని తరువాత మరొకటి.

ఇవన్నీ దాదాపు 60ఏళ్ళ క్రితం రాసినవి. ఈ మధ్యే దొరికాయి.

గుర్తుండిపోయే కానుక

అత్తగారి కథలు -24:

ప్రతి కొత్త జంటకు హనీమూన్ జ్ఞాపకాలు జీవితాంతం ప్రత్యేకమైనవే. ఆ ప్రయాణంలో ఇచ్చుకున్న చిన్న కానుక కూడా అమూల్యమైన గుర్తుగా నిలుస్తుంది. కానీ కొన్ని ఇళ్లలో ఆ కానుక విలువ కంటే సంబంధాల విలువే పరీక్షకు గురవుతుంది. ప్రేమతో కొన్న బహుమతి ఎలా చేదు జ్ఞాపకంగా మారిందో, ఒక కోడలు తన కొత్త కుటుంబాన్ని ఎలా అర్థం చేసుకుందో చెప్పే హృదయాన్ని తాకే కథే "గుర్తుండిపోయే కానుక."

సమర్థ్, జాగృతిలు హనీమూన్ కి శ్రీలంకకు వెళ్లారు. కొలంబోలో బీచ్ లలో తిరిగారు. గాల్ లోని కోటలు, కాండీ లో బాటిక్ వర్క్, కాండ్యన్ లో ఫైర్ డాన్స్ చూసారు. పిన్నవల లో ఎలిఫెంట్ ఆర్ఫనేజ్ లో చిన్న ఏనుగులకు బాటిల్ లో పాలు పట్టించారు. బుద్దుడి టీత్ టెంపుల్, ఇంకా ఎన్నో బుద్దిస్ట్ మాన్యుమెంట్స్ చూసారు. ఇలా వారం రోజులపాటు కలిసి తిరుగుతూ, ఒకరినొకరు అర్ధం చేసుకుంటూ గడిపారు. జాగృతి లాంటి భార్య దొరికినందుకు సమర్థ్, సమర్థ్ లాంటి భర్త దొరికినందుకు జాగృతి ఎంతో సంతోషించారు.

ఇక ఇండియా తిరిగి వెళ్లిపోయే రోజు ఉదయం జాగృతి నుదిటి మీద ముద్దుపెడుతూ, "ఈ ప్రయాణంలో నీతో జీవింతాంతం గుర్తుండిపోయే ఎన్నో జ్ఞాపకాలను సంపాదించుకున్నాను. నీకు కూడా ఎప్పటికీ గుర్తుండేపోయేలా ఒక మంచి గిఫ్ట్ ఇద్దామంటుకుంటున్నాను." అన్నాడు సమర్థ్.

"నాకు ఈ ట్రిప్, మీతో ఇలా గడపడం, ఇదే పెద్ద గిఫ్ట్." అంది జాగృతి నవ్వుతూ.

"నువ్వు ఇలా అంటావని నాకు తెలుసు. అందుకే నీకు చెప్పకుండా నిన్ను ఒక చోటికి తీసుకువెళ్లబోతున్నాను." అని కొలంబో నుండి రత్నపుర కి తీసుకువెళ్లాడు.

అక్కడ ఒక గైడ్, వాళ్ళకి జెమ్ మైన్స్ చూపిస్తూ, "శ్రీలంక ని రత్నద్వీప అని, ఐలాండ్ ఆఫ్ జెమ్స్ అని అంటారు. ఈ ఊరిలో 200 రకాలకు పైగా జెమ్ స్టోన్స్ దొరుకుతాయి. అందుకే దీనిని రత్నపుర అంటారు అంటే సిటీ అఫ్ జెమ్స్."అని చెప్పాడు. తరువాత జెమ్ స్టోన్స్ షాప్ కి తీసుకువెళ్ళి, రకరకాల జెమ్ స్టోన్స్ ని కూడా చూపించాడు.

"ఇక్కడికి వచ్చే టూరిస్ట్స్ ఏవి ఎక్కువగా కొంటుంటారు?" అని గైడ్ ని అడిగాడు సమర్థ్.

"సఫైర్స్, మూన్ స్టోన్స్, క్యాట్- ఐ తో పాటు ఇక్కడ మాత్రమే దొరికే ఒక గోమేద్ క్వాలిటీ చాలా ఫేమస్." అన్నాడు గైడ్.

"జాగృతి నీకు నచ్చిన గోమేధికాల నెక్లెస్ ఒకటి ఎంచుకో. అదే నేను నీకు కొనబోయే మొదటి గిఫ్ట్." అన్నాడు సమర్థ్.

ఆ షాపులో ఉన్నవన్నీ వెండితో చేసినవి అని తెలిసాక, "అయితే ఇక్కడ కొన్ని గోమేధికాలు కొనుక్కో. ఇండియాలో వెళ్ళాక బంగారంతో చేయిస్తాను." అన్నాడు సమర్థ్. సరేనని జాగృతి తనకి నచ్చిన డిజైన్ కి సరిపోయేటట్టుగా పద్నాలుగు గోమేధికాలు కొంది.

"మరి అత్తయ్యగారికి, వదినకి, మా అమ్మకి కూడా ఏమైనా తీసుకుందాం." అని అడిగింది జాగృతి.

"ఈ ట్రిప్ మనకి స్పెషల్. అందుకే ఇప్పుడు నీకు మాత్రమే కొంటాను. నీకొక్కదానికే కొంటే వాళ్ళేమి అనుకొరులే. వాళ్ళకి సౌవనీర్లు తీసుకుని వెళ్దాం." అన్నాడు సమర్థ్ నవ్వుతూ.

సమర్థ్ తనకి కొన్న మొదటి కానుకను ఏంతో జాగ్రత్తగా దాచుకుంది జాగృతి.

ఇండియా వచ్చాక, సమర్థ్ వాళ్ళ అమ్మ రాధ, "బాగా ఎంజాయ్ చేసినట్టున్నారు?" అని అడిగింది. అవునని చెప్పాడు సమర్థ్ నవ్వుతూ.

"ఎందుకు చెయ్యవు? కొత్త పెళ్ళాంతో తిరుగుతూ, దాని మోజులో అమ్మని కూడా మర్చిపోయావన్నమాట. ఒక్క కాల్ కూడా చెయ్యలేదు." అంది రాధ సమర్థ్ తో.

శ్రీలంక వెళ్ళాక రాధతో మాట్లాడలేదన్న విషయం సమర్థ్ కి గుర్తుకు వచ్చి, అంతవరకూ స్వర్గంలో తిరిగినట్టున్న సమర్థ్, ఒక్కసారిగా వాస్తవంలోకి వచ్చాడు. భయంగా రాధ దగ్గరకి వెళ్లి, కాళ్ళ మీద పది, "అమ్మా. క్షమించమ్మా. అక్కడ నెట్ వర్క్ సరిగ్గా లేక, నీకు కాల్ చెయ్యలేకపోయాను." అన్నాడు.

"అబద్దాలు చెప్పడం కూడా నేర్పిందన్నమాట. చదువుకున్నదాన్ని చేసుకున్నావ్ కదా. మొగుణ్ణి ఎలా తన వైపుకు తిప్పుకోవాలో, తల్లిని, కొడుకుని ఎలా వేరుచెయ్యాలో బాగా తెలుసు ఇలాంటివాళ్ళకి. దాని మాయలో పూర్తిగా పడిపోయావ్ నువ్వు. వారం రోజుల్లో నన్ను పూర్తిగా మర్చిపోయేలా చేసేసింది. దీని సంగతి చెప్తానుండు." అంది రాధ కోపంగా జాగృతిని చూస్తూ.

జాగృతికి రాధ ఎందుకలా మాట్లాడుతోందో అర్ధంకాలేదు. 'నన్ను, నా చదువుని ఇష్టపడి చేసుకుని, ఇప్పుడేంటి ఈవిడ ఇలా మాట్లాడుతోంది?' అనుకుంది రాధని ఆశ్చర్యంగా చూస్తూ.

"అమ్మా. జాగృతి తప్పేమి లేదమ్మా. నన్ను నమ్ము. నెట్ వర్క్ సరిగ్గా లేదు అక్కడ." రాధ కాళ్ళని నొక్కుతూ అన్నాడు సమర్థ్.

"చూడు. అది నన్ను ఎలా చేస్తోందో? నువ్వు దాని వలలో పడిపోయావన్నమాట. దాన్ని వెనకేసుకుని వస్తున్నావ్. నాకు తెలుసు నువ్వు మారిపోతావని. అందుకే నేను కూడా నీతో శ్రీలంక వచ్చి ఉండాల్సింది." అంది రాధ.

"అమ్మా. నేను కూడా నిన్ను రమ్మన్నాను కదా. నువ్వే నాన్న ఒక్కళ్ళే అయిపోతారనని రాలేదు. " అన్నాడు సమర్థ్, రాధ కాళ్ళని ఇంకొంచెం గట్టిగా నొక్కుతూ. సమర్థ్ వాళ్ళ నాన్న మాణిక్యాలరావు అక్కడ జరుగుతున్నదంతా చూస్తూ మౌనంగా ఉండిపోయాడు.

'భార్య, భర్తలు మాత్రమే వెళ్లే హనీమూన్ కి ఈవిడ రావాలనుకోవడమేమిటి విచిత్రంగా? సమర్థ్ కూడా ఈవిడని రమ్మనమనడం ఏమిటి? ఈవిడ మాట తీరు, ఈవిడ ఎదురుగా సమర్థ్ ప్రవర్తన చూస్తుంటే, ఇంట్లోవాళ్ళందరికి ఈవిడ అంటే భయమని తెలుస్తోంది.' అనుకుంది జాగృతి.

సమర్థ్ రాధ దగ్గరే కూర్చిని, కాసేపు కాళ్ళు నొక్కాక, రాధ కాస్త శాంతించి, "ఇంతకీ శ్రీలంక నుండి ఏం తీసుకొచ్చావ్?" అని సమర్థ్ ని అడిగింది.

సమర్థ్ వెంటనే లేచి వెళ్లి, జెమ్ స్టోన్స్ తీసుకొచ్చి, "ఈ రకమైన గోమేధికాలు శ్రీలంకలో తప్ప ఇంకెక్కడా దొరకవు తెలుసా? " అని రాధ చేతిలో పెట్టాడు.

"పెళ్లి తరువాత కూడా నా కొడుకు ఏమీ మారలేదు. శ్రీలంక నుండి ఇవన్నీ నా కోసమే తెచ్చాడు." అంది రాధ గోమేధికలని చూసి మురిసిపోతూ.

'నాకని కొన్నవి ఈవిడ తీసేసుకుంటున్నా సమర్థ్ ఏమి అనటం లేదేమిటి?' అని ఆశ్చర్యంగా సమర్థ్ ని చూసింది జాగృతి. సమర్థ్ 'ఇప్పుడేమి మాట్లాడకు.' అన్నట్టు జాగృతికి సౌంగ్య చేసాడు.

"అమ్మా. ఇప్పటికైనా నీ కోపం తగ్గిందా? వీటితో నీకు నచ్చిన నెక్లెస్ చేయించుకో. ఎంత ఖర్చు అయినా నేను పెట్టుకుంటాను." అన్నాడు సమర్థ్, రాధ ఒళ్ళో తల పెట్టుకుంటూ.

"నాకేమి ఇప్పుడేమి వద్దురా" అంది రాధ. రాధ గోమేధికాలని తిరిగి ఇచ్చేస్తుందేమో అని చెయ్యి చాపాడు సమర్థ్. కానీ రాధ, "ఇంత విలువైన వాటిని విలువైన వాళ్ళకి ఇవ్వాలి. ముందు మా తమ్ముడికి, అక్కకి ఉంగరాలు చేయిస్తాను. తరువాత మీ అక్కకి, బావగారికి. మిగిలిన వాటితో తరువాత నేను నెక్లెస్ చేయించుకుంటాను. సరేనా." అంది రాధ.

సమర్థ్ ఆశ్చర్యంగా, "సరే. నీ ఇష్టం. కానీ నాన్నకి....ఇంకా..." అని జాగృతిని చూసాడు.

"మీ నాన్నకేమి అక్కరలేదు." అంది రాధ గోమేధికాలు తీసుకుని వెళ్ళిపోతూ.

"కోడలికి కూడా ఒకటి...." అన్నాడు మాణిక్యాలరావు.

"హ్మ్మ్." అని మాణిక్యాలరావు ని కోపంగా చూస్తూ, "మీకు మాట్లాడే అర్హత లేదు. ఇవన్నీ నాకు నా కొడుకు తెచ్చి ఇచ్చాడు. ఇంకెవ్వరికి కాదు." అని జాగృతిని చూసి, "వీటితో నాకు నచ్చింది నేను చేసుకుంటాను." అంది రాధ.

గోమేధికాలను జాగృతి కోసమే కొన్నాడన్న విషయం రాధకి తెలుసు. అయినా అది జాగృతికి అందనివ్వకుండా చేసింది.

ఆ రోజుతో రాధ ఎలాంటిదో అర్ధమయ్యింది జాగృతికి. రాధ తన వైపు కుటుంబానికి, తన కూతురికి ఇచ్చినంత ప్రాధాన్యం, భర్తకి, కొడుకుకి, కోడలికి ఇవ్వదని, రాధకి భయపడతారని, ఎవరూ ఎదురు చెప్పలేరని, తనకి ఆ ఇంట్లో ఏ విలువ ఉండబోదని అర్ధం చేసుకుంది. సమర్థ్ తనని ఎంత ప్రేమిస్తున్నా, తల్లి ఎదురుగా తన కోసం నిలబడలేడని తెలుసుకుని బాధపడింది.

సమర్థ్, జాగృతికి జీవితాంతం గుర్తుండిపోయేలా ఇచ్చిన మొదటి కానుక, రాధకి నెక్లెస్ గా, మిగతావాళ్ళకి ఉంగరాలుగా మారింది. జాగృతికి మాత్రం ఏమీ దక్కలేదు. అత్తగారి రూపంలో జీవింతాంతం మర్చిపోలేని చేదు అనుభవాన్ని మిగిల్చింది.

[color=var(--ricos-custom-p-color,unset)]అత్త–కోడళ్ల మధ్య అపార్థాలు, అభిప్రాయ భేదాలు మన కుటుంబ కథల్లో ఎప్పుడూ ఆసక్తిని కలిగించే అంశాలే.‘అత్తగారి కథలు -25: కోడలి గృహప్రవేశం’లో కూడా అలాంటి సంఘటనే కనిపిస్తుంది. కొడుకు సమర్థ్ తన భార్య జాగృతిని ఎంతో ప్రేమగా స్వాగతించాలనుకుంటాడు. కానీ అత్త రాధ మాత్రం కొత్తగా వచ్చిన కోడలిని మొదటి రోజే ఇంటి పనులతో పరీక్షించాలని నిర్ణయించుకుంటుంది.[/color]

[color=var(--ricos-custom-p-color,unset)]మహిళ చదువుకుని ఉద్యోగం చేస్తే ఇంటిని చూసుకోలేదనే అపోహ ఎంత తప్పో చమత్కారంగా చెప్పే కథే ‘కోడలి గృహప్రవేశం’.[/color]

[color=var(--ricos-custom-p-color,unset)]ట్రైన్ ఎక్కి, సమర్థ్ కి ఫోన్ చేసి, "నేను, మీ ఆవిడ ఇప్పుడే బయలుదేరాం. రేపు ఉదయానికి బెంగుళూరు చేరుకుంటాం. రాగానే మీ ఆవిడ చేత పాలు పొంగించాలి. ఇంట్లో పాలు, కూరలు ఉన్నాయా? లేకపోతే కొని ఫ్రిడ్జిలో పెట్టు." అని చెప్పింది. జాగృతి వస్తోందన్న ఆనందంలో రాధ చెప్పిన మిగతా మాటలేమి సమర్థ్ కి వినపడలేదు.[/color]

[color=var(--ricos-custom-p-color,unset)]మర్నాడు ఉదయానికి రాధ, జాగృతి బెంగుళూరు చేరారు. జాగృతి వచ్చినప్పటినుండి సమర్థ్ ఆనందానికి హద్దులు లేవు. జాగృతితో ఎప్పుడు మాట్లాడదామా, తనని ఎప్పుడు హత్తుకుందామా అని ఎదురుచూశాడు. కానీ రాధ వాళ్ళిద్దరినీ ఒక్క నిమిషం కూడా ఒంటరిగా వదలకుండా, జాగృతి చేత ఇల్లంతా శుభ్రం చేయించింది.[/color]

[color=var(--ricos-custom-p-color,unset)]లక్ష్మీదేవిలా ఇంట్లోకి అడుగుపెట్టిన జాగృతికి, మొదటిరోజే రాధ ఇలాంటి పనులు చెప్పడం చూసి సమర్థ్ బాధపడ్డాడు. "పనిమనిషి వచ్చాక ఈ పనులన్నీ చేస్తుందిలే. జాగృతి చేత చేయించడమెందుకమ్మా?" అన్నాడు రాధతో.[/color]

[color=var(--ricos-custom-p-color,unset)]సమర్థ్ రాధతో ఏదో చెప్దామనుకునేలోగా, "రాగానే మీ ఆవిడ చేత పాలు పొంగిద్దామనుకున్నాను. కానీ నేను తీసుకురమ్మని చెప్పినవేవీ నువ్వు తేలేదు. అప్పుడే దాని మాయలో పడిపోయావ్. దాని వెనక తిరిగింది చాలు. వెంటనే వెళ్లి పాలు, కూరలు, నూనె తీసుకురా." అని సమర్థ్ మీద అరిచింది. సమర్థ్ వెంటనే వెళ్ళి రాధ చెప్పినవి తీసుకొచ్చాడు.[/color]

[color=var(--ricos-custom-p-color,unset)]జాగృతి పాలు పొంగించి, పరమాన్నం చేసి, దేవుడికి నైవేద్యం పెట్టి, రాధకి, సమర్థ్ కి ఇచ్చింది. సమర్థ్ తిని చాలా బాగుందని చెప్పాడు. కానీ రాధ అసహ్యంగా మొహంపెట్టి, "ఇంతకీ నీకు వచ్చా? కనీసం ఒక పది మందికి వండగలవా?" అని అడిగింది.[/color]

[color=var(--ricos-custom-p-color,unset)]"పదిమందికా? అంతమందికి నేనెప్పుడూ వండలేదండి. ఒకళ్లిద్దరికైతే వండగలను." అంది జాగృతి భయపడుతూ.[/color]

[color=var(--ricos-custom-p-color,unset)]"ఏమిటీ!! పట్టున పదిమందికి కూడా వండలేవా? ఇంకెందుకు పనికొస్తావ్? అందుకే చదువుకున్నదాన్ని నాకు కోడలిగా తేవద్దురా అని చెప్పను వీడితో. వీడు వినలేదు. ఏం ఉద్దరించడానికో, ఎవరిని ఉద్దరించడానికో ఇంజనీరింగ్ చదివి, ఉద్యోగం చేస్తున్న నిన్ను పెళ్లి చేసుకుని, నా నెత్తి మీద పెట్టాడు. నేనేం చేసుకోను దీని ఇంజినీరింగ్ సర్టిఫికెట్ ని? నాలిక గీసుకోవడానికి తప్ప ఇంకెందుకు పనికిరాదు నాకది. మాకసలే చుట్టాలెక్కువ. వాళ్ళందరూ వస్తే ఏం వండి పెడుతుంది వాళ్ళకిది?" అంది రాధ కోపంగా.[/color]

[color=var(--ricos-custom-p-color,unset)]"అలాగే సమర్థించు. నన్ను పంపించేసాక, అది నీకు వంట చేసి పెడుతుందనుకుంటున్నావేమో!! నీ చేత వండించుకుని తిని, టింగురంగా అని ఆఫీసుకి వెళ్ళిపోతుంది. దీనికి, వీళ్ళ అమ్మకి ఉద్యోగాలే ముఖ్యం. శుభ్రంగా ఇంటిపట్టున కూర్చోలేరు. నేను చూడు, ఎంత కష్టపడి నాన్నని, నిన్ను, మీ అక్కని చూసుకున్నాను. నాలాంటి పతివ్రతా లక్షణాలు వీళ్ళకెక్కడ!! ఇలాంటిదాన్ని తెచ్చి నా నెత్తి మీద పెట్టాడు భగవంతుడు. అంతా నా ఖర్మ." అంది రాధ తలబాదుకుంటూ.[/color]

'చదువుకున్న, ఉద్యోగం చేస్తున్న అమ్మాయి కావాలనుకుని సమర్థ్ నన్ను పెళ్లి చేసుకున్నాడు అనుకున్నాను. ఇద్దరం కలిసి అన్ని బాధ్యతలు పంచుకుంటూ, సంతోషంగా ఉండాలనుకున్నాము. కానీ ఈవిడకి నేనంటే మొదటినుండి ఇష్టంలేదన్నమాట. ఏవేవో ఊహించుకుని, నన్ను, మా అమ్మని తిడుతూ, లేనిపోని తగువులు పెట్టాలని చూస్తోంది.' అనుకుంది.[/color]

[color=var(--ricos-custom-p-color,unset)]జాగృతి కూడా తనంత పతివ్రత అని సమర్థ్ అన్నందుకు, రాధకి ఒళ్ళు మండిపోయింది. "మీ ఆవిడ ఎంత పతివ్రతో ఇప్పుడే తేల్చేస్తాను. ఈ రోజు వంట మీ ఆవిడనే చేయమను. ఎలా చేస్తుందో నేనూ చూస్తాను." అని కుర్చీలో కాలు మీద కాలు వేసుకుని కూర్చుంది.[/color]

'ఈవిడ నా గురించి మాట్లాడుతున్నవి తప్పని నిరూపిద్దాం' అనుకుని, గబగబా వంటగదిలోకి వెళ్లి, బియ్యం కడిగి కుక్కర్లో పెట్టి, కూరలు తరిగి, స్టవ్ మీద గిన్నె పెట్టి, నూనె కోసం వెతికింది. ఎంత వెతికినా నూనె కనపడలేదు. సమర్థ్ ని పిలిచి, "నూనె ఎక్కడుందో కనపడటం లేదు. ఒక్కసారి వచ్చి, చెప్తారా?" అని అడిగింది.[/color]

[color=var(--ricos-custom-p-color,unset)]"ఉంటే కదా కనపడడానికి!! నీ మాయలో పడి, అమ్మ చెప్పిన మాటలు వినపడలేదు వాడికి. బాగానే బుట్టలో వేసుకున్నావ్." అంది రాధ మూతితిప్పుతూ.[/color]

[color=var(--ricos-custom-p-color,unset)]"నూనె తేవడం మర్చిపోయినట్టున్నాను. ఇప్పుడే తీసుకువస్తానుండు." అని బయటకి వెళ్తున్న సమర్థ్ ని రాధ ఆపి, "నువ్వు ఎక్కడికి వెళ్ళక్కరలేదు. మీ ఆవిడ పతివ్రత అన్నావ్ కదా. నిరూపించామను. నూనె లేకుండా వంట చెయ్యమను. చూస్తాను ఎలా చేస్తుందో?" అంది.[/color]

[color=var(--ricos-custom-p-color,unset)]'ఇలాంటి టెస్ట్ పెట్టిందేమిటి ఈవిడ? నూనె లేకుండా వంట ఎలా చెయ్యడం? ఇప్పుడేం చెయ్యాలి?' అనుకుంటూ, వంటిట్లోకి వెళ్ళింది జాగృతి.[/color]
