As she was about to leave she said we will decide about who will play which character at the end of the college in the evening.

As she left the class there was lot of noise with everyone trying to talk and discuss what is expected of them. Madhu had finished her remaining lectures and joined the drama class to decide on the actors. Tushar briefed her about the discussions and said little disappointed we are having one small issue with Renu not ready up for the challenge. Madhu decided to talk to Renu and Shama and asked Renu and Shama " What do you think is the issue you can talk about it and we can discuss and work solution". Renu and Shama were reluctant to say anything. So Madhu said what if we take few scenes which you are not comfortable with is that ok then? Before Renu could reply Tushar announced if she wants him to direct the play he wants to make the decision on that. Then only he will agree to direct the play. Madhu who already had challenge in hands to convince Renu now was having hard time with Tushar who was not willing to make any changes. Madhu looked at him and said I have no issues to what you are saying and I also understand and agree to your point but you need to convince others also and the scenes should be scripted as much and presented which look real but also maintain sanity.


 


Tushar told her if the play has to presented to win the competition then it is important that people who watch should be able to make feel that it is real and to make it real we just can't take those scenes out as they are important part of the play. Madhu said let me talk to other students.

Madhu walked to the front of the class, and said "Sometimes, actors and actresses were required to do bold scenes," she said. "I believe that this is the hardest challenge an actor or actress may face. I also believe that this challenge is much harder but we need to consider it as part of role and should take it as challenge. She continued, "An actor must be willing to uncover the personal, the conventionally hidden part of him, and he must do it in a very innocent way and impress the audience.

Then she looked at Renu and said "Oh, it is not kiss or standing in two piece but it is the way you act out and how your audience feels. You have to make them glue to your character so they focus on your acting rather than what you are wearing. Madhu said to Renu it should not be difficult once you get in the character and she is good actor from what she has heard from others. You are young and talented and this is your chance to prove yourself.




Renu's had her face took on a crestfallen look. I thought you wouldn't let me down, Renu. Madhu said little angry not able to convince her. Renu who still now talking less decided to shoot at Madhu and said it is easy for you to say as you are not in my shoes but I am sure even you would have chicken out of the role especially when you know you have to spend few years studying in the same college as guys would look differently and it would be difficult for her to manage or feel the same way. Madhu was challenged by her student and she did not know what to say as Renu had made valid point.


Renu said we are not professional actors, after all said and done this is only college drama!" and what you are asking is too much.  Madhu who now was angry looked at Renu and said I have played roles in college drama and I played it as actress and it does not matter whether you are acting in movie or drama in your college you have to stand up for your role and if you think this is just college drama you should not be part of this play. Renu was not the one to let it go and said why dont you play that role as you are also the part of this college and may be can lead the group by your acting than just talks. Madhu was little shocked as she was challenged by Renu said but was unwilling to back down. Madhu said the lead character needs to be some college girl studying in college and it will not fit in the rules for teacher to take the role. Renu quickly said don’t make excuses last year the drama which won the contest had one of the faculty members playing the role so don’t worry about the rules.

Tushar then looked at Madhu and said mam let me ask you something "When was the last time you had performed on the stage. Madhu said it is 7-8 years back when she was in college". He look at Renu and said I can't take chance and you have to perform the role as we are not sure if she could act on stage after such long break



Renu looked at him and said Tushar if you take the lead role I will consider my decision. Sandeep interrupted Renu and said you can't just make choices about other characters who will do what just because all are requesting her to take the role. Madhu knew why Renu kept that condition and said I think sandeep is right. Renu if you are comfortable acting with Tushar you should also be ok with some other actor. Renu said the role is quite challenging and since she knows Tushar she would be comfortable about the kissing scene etc.. only with him or else they can find someone else. Tushar looked at her and said I will be busy managing and directing this play so it would not be great idea for him to be part of the play on stage as it would be difficult for him to  do justice to both the jobs plus Sandeep is perfect choice for the role. Also directing play itself is challenge and one person can't do both. The discussion went on for half an hour and finally all agreed with Tushar.



Tushar will not be able to play the lead role and also direct the play which in itself will keep him occupied all the time. The problem with actress still was not decided as Tushar said if  there is no way Renu is saying yes we think we do not have choice and asked Mam can you take this role as there is no other choice.  There was lot of discussion going when Mr. Roy walked into the room and looked at Madhu and asked how is the preparation going. Madhu who was surprised with Mr. Roy visit  said we are all set for the rehearsals to begin only issue is with lead role for female. Mr. Roy asked why we have couple of girls students around you can choose anyone from them. Madhu explained him the issue and just then Tushar interjected her and said I think Sir Madhu Mam will be good choice. Mr. Roy was also little surprised and asked Tushar why do you need Madhu to take the role and why can't they choose someone from the other girl students who will be more than happy to take the role if Renu is not ok. Mr. Roy said Madhu is already having responsibility to co-ordinate and manage in background all things for the play. Tushar said Mr. Roy Sir can we talk with you in separate room. He nodded in positive as Tushar and Madhu walked behind him to other room.


Tushar explained Mr. Roy about the play and the concept, who still was little shocked at hearing the concept of the play and how bold it was. He looked at and Tushar asked can we not do any other play and with different script and ideas. Tushar and Madhu who had worked on the script said we just have one month to go and they already have worked on this script for more than two months and it will not be possible to come up with new script with the time they have left in hand. Mr. Roy who was now tensed as he was under lot of pressure from Director of the college about the play said I appreciate the work both of you have put on but you should have thought this before so we do not have problem at the last moment were we do not have any actor willing to take the challenge or play the role. Madhu just did not have the answer to the point raised by Mr. Roy as he was right and they had taken it as granted that Renu will agree for the role. The situation in which they are in is completely their fault and someway she was responsible as Mr. Roy had expected her to move with the play in smooth manner. Tushar said I know we are at fault for taking Renu for granted to play the role but if you look at the script and the work we have put in I am sure if we execute the performance it will be just the first time any college has taken such bold play on stage plus we will not have any competition at all and can make it as winner. Mr. Roy who now looked at Tushar and Madhu said what you are asking is way beyond normal and we cannot force any girl student to play this role as we may have issues with the parent objecting to it. Tushar said Sir you have put faith in me and I moved to this college on your request with scholarship and I am very much sure we can do this all we need is your permission and help to allow Madhu Mam to take the role. Also to ease her burden he will take the complete responsibility of play management and if Mr. Roy can allow her to skip the classes for one month. Madhu who was listening silently was surprised at what Tushar was asking without asking her if she was willing to play the role. Mr. Roy looked at Tushar and said let me see as you guys have put me in the soup now and left me with no choice as he looked at Madhu and said Can we talk about it alone dismissing Tushar from the room. Mr. Roy who now was sitting alone with Madhu said I am not sure what to say as I thought you have things under control and today we are in complete mess. Madhu sat with her head in her hands as she listened to Mr. Roy as now her job, her career, was on the line with things going out of her hand.



Mr. Roy looked at her and all I can do is request you if you can take the role as I know it would be difficult but looks like we do not have any other option or we can take some of the part of it from the play and put the play but then I don't think Tushar will agree to direct and you may have to search someone else may be Sandeep. Madhu was not willing to let go Tushar as she knew how important it is for the play and without his talent they will now flat fall on the face as she quickly said, we cannot replace Tushar. Mr. Roy said we cannot replace him if he is not willing to cut the scenes and go ahead and direct then the only option we are left with is I think Madhu you should take the challenge and play the role. Madhu tried to make excuse but Mr. Roy cut her off and said you know I have put all trust in you and how important it is for us to make it to the competition. Madhu, you know how much these students respect you and I am sure nothing is going to change after the play. Don't worry, you'll be great!" I can grant you one month off from your lectures and just allow you to focus on the play. After lot of discussion and reluctance Madhu finally said ok if there is no one then I will take that role.



Mr. Roy was relieved that Madhu was willing to take the role and understood how hard it will be for her but appreciated her dedication and said I will keep in mind when we discuss about the appointment New head for Cultural activities. Mr. Roy was happy and walked back to the group and informed about the decision from Madhu and left by wishing them best of luck. So after lot of discussion it was decided that Madhu would be doing the lead role and Sandeep would be doing the main actor. Tushar will be directing the play and Renu, Shama and others will be playing the supporting cast.  Tushar looked at everyone and said so from tomorrow let us start with the rehearsals for the play
