I think you are reading the story under the wrong lens.This story is more of an erotic crime thriller than a drama. 

In the drama genre, characters have the luxury of making different choices as dramas usually span over months or years. 

In a thriller, time is always a precious currency, and the crimes occurring in the story have more control over the flow of the story than the drama part does.

Keep in mind that the last 8 chapters describe only 9-10 hours of an ongoing day, and the rest of the chapters are dedicated to narrating the accounts of the past 4 days.

So the changes that have already transpired are massive considering the time window.
