Chapter One
It was eight o'clock on the dot and perhaps the thirtieth time I had checked my phone. The apartment was quiet. The television was on, but I had turned the sound off. It flashed images of some sitcom I had seen a hundred times before, but I couldn't tell you what was happening. I sat at the end of the couch with one leg bouncing and my phone resting face-up next to me.
I picked it up: 8:03.
No messages.
I put the phone down.
Thirty seconds later, I picked it up again.
Still nothing.
I laughed quietly at myself. This was ridiculous. I'd spent years imagining tonight. Years.
I'd been the one who brought it up first, back when we were still teenagers. At first, it had been nothing more than a fantasy: a confession whispered in the dark that I would like to see her in a threesome.
Then I'd brought it up again, and again. And over time the jokes became questions, and the idea of a threesome became the idea of just her with other men, without me. And then, the questions started coming from her instead. That was when I'd known I'd won... or thought I'd won.
Her perfume still lingered in the apartment.
I glanced toward the bedroom where I'd watched her get ready earlier. She'd stood in front of the mirror, changing her earrings twice before settling on the little silver ones I'd bought her for one of our anniversaries.
I'd asked whether she was nervous.
She'd smiled at me through the mirror and said, "Yeah. A little."
"That's normal." I'd said, repeating what I had read online. But how the hell should I know? We have both only ever been with each other.
"What if I hate it?" she asked me.
"Then you come home," I said.
"And if I don't hate it?"
"Then you stay," I told her.
I'd meant it. I really had. At least, I thought I had.
I looked at the clock; 8:11.
Shivani had been gone for almost two hours. The date had started at six-thirty. Dinner first, somewhere downtown. Then to a wine bar she'd picked because it was supposed to be quiet enough to talk.
I'd helped her choose it.
I'd helped her choose her photographs for her dating profile too, and I had helped her write a response to the guys she had matched with when she didn't know what to say.
I'd sat beside her in bed while she scrolled through options, teasing her about the particularly terrible ones.
Then she'd shown me him.
Deepak.
Twenty-nine, same as us. Dark hair. Nice smile. Some kind of marketing job. His profile said he liked hiking, live music, and cooking.
We stared at his photographs for a long time. He wasn't particularly intimidating. In fact, he seemed exceedingly normal. Like the kind of guy either of us would get along with if we met him.
She'd asked what I thought, and I'd said he looked good. Then I confessed that I hadn't stopped thinking about her with him while we were inspecting his profile. Back then I hadn't felt jealous.
My phone buzzed, and I nearly dropped it.
"Having a really good time!" She had added a few smiling emojis for emphasis.
I stared at the message... then I smiled. A really good time?
I typed a few different replies before settling on the simplest: "Good," followed by a love heart emoji.
I stared at her name on my phone, wondering what she was doing right now. Was Deepak making her laugh? I wondered if she was still nervous. I wondered if he had noticed the tiny habit she had of tucking her hair behind her ear when she was embarrassed. I'd noticed that when we were nineteen.
I'd known her little habits for almost half of our lives. The expressions she made, the things she hated, the music she listened to when she was sad, the way she took her coffee. I'd known her before either of us really knew ourselves. We'd grown up together, and tonight another man was sitting across from my wife, learning things about her for the first time. For some reason, that thought hurt more than I expected.
I stood up. Heading into the kitchen, I opened the refrigerator, then closed it again. I wasn't hungry. I opened it again and poured myself another drink instead.
When I came back to the couch, my phone was still there.
No new messages. The time read 8:27.
I thought about texting her again, but I didn't. I'd promised her I wouldn't be that husband. That she didn't need to check in constantly, and that I wanted her to forget I was waiting at home and just enjoy herself. It had sounded incredibly sexy when I'd said it. Now it just sounded stupid.
For years, I'd pictured this night. Imagining myself calm and confident. Excited by the anticipation. I pictured her coming home, with that secret little smile, and telling me she liked him while I smiled and told her how happy I was for her. I'd imagined everything except this: sitting alone in a quiet apartment at half past eight with no idea what was happening, wondering for the first time whether I'd spent years asking for something I wasn't actually at all prepared for.
My phone buzzed again, and this time it wasn't a message from Shivani. It was a notification from the dating app. I was logged in on her profile so that I could see what she and her matches talked about. Someone had just liked her profile. I opened the app and stared at her profile. My wife. Smiling, beautiful, and available. For a moment, that familiar rush returned, the same excitement I'd felt every time I'd imagined another man with her. Then I remembered her message: Having a really good time.
Nine o'clock came and went without another message. She'd told me that if the date was a bust, she'd probably wrap things up around nine and come home. I kept glancing at the clock, but it was obvious her date was going well.
She had been upfront with Deepak that this date was a kind of no-expectations vibe check. He knew she was married, and knew this was her first time with another guy other than me, and that she may not want to rush things. She and I had agreed, however, that if the date went well and she felt like it, she could go back to his place if she wanted.
Nine-oh-seven. Nine-twelve. I picked up my phone, put it down, then picked it up again. At 9:17, it finally buzzed again. My heart jumped as I grabbed it.
"He asked me back to his place. I said yes. Love you."
I read it again, and again.
'I said yes."
The words hung there on the screen, impossibly simple.
And punctuated, almost casually:
Love you.
I stared at those two words for a long time, feeling something inside me sink. I'd wanted this, spent years asking for this. In fact, even now I still wanted it. So why did seeing her say yes feel like the worst thing that had ever happened to me?
I locked my phone and sat alone in the quiet apartment, waiting for my wife to come home.

Chapter Two
I had turned off the television entirely, leaving the room lit by the lamp beside the couch and the faint glow of the kitchen light I'd forgotten to switch off.
I checked my phone.
9:42. No messages.
My thumb hovered over her name before I opened our messages. Her last text was still there.
He asked me back to his place. I said yes. Love you.
I locked the phone, put it down, and then picked it up and unlocked it again. I didn't know what I was expecting, so I opened my photos instead.
The first picture I saw was one I'd taken of Shivani earlier that evening. She'd been standing in front of the bedroom mirror, smiling at me while I told her to hold still.
She was wearing the dress we'd eventually settled on: Black and fitted at the waist, falling midway down her thighs. It hugged her figure well. Her dark hair fell loosely over her shoulders, and the silver earrings I'd bought her years ago glinted in the light.
Her lips were painted in a soft red.
"You really are going all out," I had joked.
"Is it too much?" she asked, concerned.
"No. You're perfect." I had told her.
She really did look beautiful. Not dressed up like she might for a wedding or other function, but just looked deliberately beautiful.
Except it wasn't for me. She'd been getting ready for Deepak.
I zoomed in on the picture without thinking. Her smile, the lipstick. I remembered trying to kiss her before she had left, and she had joked and chided me not to ruin her makeup, and offered me her cheek to kiss instead.
For a second, I wondered whether Deepak had noticed the lipstick too. Did he appreciate it as well?
Then I wondered where those lips were now.
I put my phone down, stood up, and walked to the kitchen. Only to turn and come back to my phone with nothing gained from my efforts.
At 10:03, I finally opened our messages and typed, How is it?
I stared at the words for a few seconds before sending them. Shivani replied just a couple of minutes later.
Good.
Just that. I smiled despite myself, then typed, Have you done it yet?
Not yet.
I read the words twice, and despite everything, I felt a small wave of relief mixed with extreme longing. Not yet. Whatever I'd spent the last hour imagining, it hadn't happened. At least not yet, but that meant it was going to. And soon.
I put my phone down and tried to settle myself, reminding myself that I'd asked for this. I'd spent years talking about it, encouraged her to explore it, and told her repeatedly that she didn't need to worry about how I might feel. But the reassurance didn't last. I kept wondering what she was doing, whether Deepak was making her laugh, whether she was still nervous. Whether this would all be worth it.
By 11:30, I'd checked the time so many times that I was starting to lose track. I finally texted again.
How are you? Everything okay?
Her reply came almost immediately, but this time something about it made my stomach tighten.
Im good!! sry just busyeverythingsok tho dont worry x
There were typos everywhere... missing apostrophes, words running together, barely any punctuation. Shivqni normally corrected everything without thinking, but this looked as though she'd typed it in a hurry, without even bothering to look at the screen before sending it. I stared at the message for a long moment. She said she was okay. She said not to worry.
I put the phone down and leaned back against the couch, breathing deeply to steady my nerves.
The apartment was completely silent now. At 11:47, I found myself looking at the photograph I'd taken of Shivani again. At that bright little smile she'd given me as I'd stood there taking the picture. I'd known that woman since we were sixteen. She was my wife. And somewhere across the city, she was having an experience neither of us could take back.
Midnight came and went, and I couldn't stand the uncertainty anymore. I opened our messages and typed, Please let me know when you'll be home. I sent it and watched the screen, waiting for the typing indicator that never came. Thirty seconds passed, then a minute, then two. I was just about to put the phone down when it started ringing.
Shivani
My heart jumped. I answered immediately.
"Hey."
There was a brief pause before her voice came through. "Hi, baby."
She sounded tired, but I could tell she was smiling.
"Everything okay?"
"Yeah," she said. "I'm on my way home."
I closed my eyes and let out a breath I hadn't realized I'd been holding. "Okay."
"I'll be there soon."
"Okay."
For a moment neither of us said anything. Then she spoke softly.
"I love you."
I swallowed. "I love you too."
The call ended, leaving me alone with the dark screen of my phone. She was coming home. Somehow, that was exactly what I'd wanted all night, yet exactly what I'd been afraid of.

Chapter Three
I heard the key turn in the lock just before one a.m.
I'd spent the last half hour pretending I wasn't waiting for it. I had tried sitting on the couch, then standing in the kitchen, then sitting again. I'd even turned the television back on, though I couldn't have told you what was playing. Every few minutes I'd find myself thumbing my phone open again, wondering how long it would take her to get home.
The door opened, and Shivani stepped inside, quietly closing it behind her. For a second, neither of us said anything.
She looked almost exactly as she had when she'd left, except for the little details. Her hair was a little messier; loose strands hung around her face, no longer sitting as neatly as they had when she'd stood in front of the bedroom mirror earlier, and her lips had returned to their normal shade.
She caught me staring.
"Hey."
I stood up. "Hey."
She smiled the same smile I knew she'd given when she was on the phone, and something inside my chest loosened at the sight of it. She looked happy. Tired, but happy.
"How was the taxi?" I asked
"Fine," she responded.
She slipped off her heels and left them beside the door.
"Sorry I was gone so long."
"It's okay."
She looked at me for another moment.
"You weren't worried, were you?" she asked.
I almost laughed. I had spent nearly six hours practically vibrating with anxiety, but I couldn't exactly admit that after everything I'd said to her.
"No. Not really." I responded
She gave me a look that said she didn't believe me.
"Really?" she asked
"I mean... I knew you were safe." That was true, at least.
She walked over and wrapped her arms around me.
I hugged her back automatically, burying my face in her hair. I had half expected her to smell abhorrent. Like sex and sin... Like another man. Yet, she didn't. Not really.
She smelled like her perfume, the same familiar scent she'd worn when she left, only softer after hours of wear. Beneath it was simply Lily. The warm, familiar smell of her hair and skin, slightly dulled by the long night. There was nothing abhorrent about it. Nothing that screamed that she'd been somewhere else with someone else.
Just her.
And yet, beneath the perfume, I caught something unfamiliar. Something I couldn't quite place. Maybe it was the restaurant, or the wine bar, or the smell of someone else's cologne lingering faintly in the fabric of her dress. Maybe I was imagining it entirely.
I held her a little tighter anyway, as though I could somehow reassure myself that she was still mine by the simple act of holding her.
The irony wasn't lost on me.
I'd spent years dreaming about her coming home smelling like another man.
"So," she said with an awkward smile. "You want to know about it?"
I'd spent hours imagining this moment and had thought I'd have a thousand questions ready. Instead, my mind went completely blank. I nodded and followed her into the kitchen, where she poured herself a glass of water and drained almost all of it in one go. I watched her from across the counter, trying to read her expression.
"So?" I finally asked.
"It was good."
"Good?"
"Really good, actually."
Something tightened in my stomach. I reached for my own glass. "What did you guys do?"
"Dinner. Then we went for drinks."
"And?"
She laughed softly. "And talked."
"About what?"
"Everything, pretty much." She leaned against the counter and smiled. "He's really easy to talk to. He made me laugh a lot."
"That's good," I said, forcing another smile.
She studied me for a moment. "You really mean that?"
"Yeah."
And I did. That was the horrible part. I wanted her to enjoy herself. I wanted her to meet someone she liked. I'd endlessly imagined exactly this conversation, imagining her coming home and telling me she'd had a wonderful time. I hadn't understood how different it would feel when she was standing in front of me, smiling as she told me about another man she'd spent the evening getting to know. It was no longer just a fantasy.
"Did you kiss him?" The question slipped out before I could stop myself.
Shivani hesitated for just a moment before nodding. "Yeah."
Something in my stomach dropped.
"At the bar?"
"Just a little. It was when he asked if I wanted to go back to his place. I said yes, and... we kissed."
I stared at her.
I'd imagined it so many times that, in my head, it had become almost abstract. Just a fantasy I could enjoy because I could always control what happened next. But hearing Shivani casually tell me that she'd actually kissed Deepak made it horribly real.
"Did you like it?"
The question came out quieter than I'd intended.
She looked at me for a moment before answering.
"Yeah."
There was no hesitation this time.
I nodded slowly, looking down at the counter. I could still remember the message she'd sent me hours earlier: He asked me back to his place. I said yes. Love you. At the time, I'd been consumed by what those words might mean. Now I knew.
"Okay," I said.
Shivani reached across the counter and took my hand. "Are you okay?"
I looked down at our fingers intertwined. Forever, I'd wanted her to discover that she could desire someone else. I'd wanted her to come home and tell me she'd enjoyed herself. But sitting there with her hand in mine, I realized something I hadn't considered before: the fantasy had always been about us. This was about her. And I wasn't sure where that left me.
"I'm okay."
She squeezed my hand. "I really do love you."
"I know."
She leaned across the counter and kissed me.
It was familiar. Safe. Ours. The same kind of kiss we'd shared thousands of times since we were teenagers.
But as I kissed my wife, I couldn't stop thinking about the fact that only a few hours earlier, she'd kissed another man.

Chapter four:
Where I had thought she looked no different when she first arrived home, under the bright kitchen light, there were other tells. Her slightly swollen lips, a faint flush still high on her cheeks. The way her dress looked like it had been put back on in a hurry.
She took another sip of water, then set the glass down carefully.
"Come to the bedroom," I said.
Shivani searched my face for a second, then nodded. I took her hand and led her out of the kitchen to our room. To the bed we had shared for years. She followed me without speaking.
Inside, I closed the door. She stood near the foot of the bed with her arms loosely crossed. I sat on the edge of the mattress and looked up at her.
"Tell me everything," I said, "From the beginning. No skipping."
She swallowed, then sat next to me, close enough that our thighs touched. For a moment she just stared at her hands in her lap.
"After the kiss at the bar, we left pretty quick. He drove. I sat in the passenger seat and kept thinking about the text I just sent you. Half expecting you to call the whole thing. But I didn't want you to... Even though I almost told him to turn around and take me home twice." She gave a small, crooked smile. "But I didn't."
Her voice stayed soft. "His place was nice. Very clean. Modern. Big windows. We didn't even turn most of the lights on. Just the ones in the living room. He poured some wine. We sat on the lounge. Close together. He kissed me again, and it was longer this time. Long and deep. His hand was on my thigh, under the hem of my dress. I let him. When his fingers brushed higher, I opened my legs a little."
Shivani’s cheeks had gone pink.
"That's when I texted you that I was okay. And that we hadn't had sex yet. He laughed when he saw me type. Asked if I was telling my husband. I said yes, and he didn't seem bothered. Just kept stroking me through my underwear until they were soaked."
"That's when I texted you that I was okay. And that we hadn't had sex yet. He laughed when he saw me type. Asked if I was telling my husband. I said yes, and he didn't seem bothered. Just kept stroking me through my underwear until they were soaked."
She shifted on the bed, pressing her thighs together for a second.
"Then he asked if I wanted to go to the bedroom. I said yes. He stood up and held out his hand. I remember thinking how strange it felt. Being led down a hallway I'd never seen before, with a man who wasn't you, and knowing exactly what was about to happen. My heart was racing. Part of me still couldn't believe I was actually doing it."
"He reassured me first. Kept asking if I was okay, and I told him I was." Shivani paused, looking down at her hands before continuing. "I was nervous. More nervous than I expected. But I told him I was ready."
She took a breath. "He kissed me again, slowly, until I started to relax. Then he helped me out of my dress. I remember feeling strangely aware of every part of my body. He kissed my neck while he unhooked my bra. I felt incredibly exposed. It was the first time anyone had seen me like that since you."
dice with 100 sides online
I swallowed.
"He didn't rush me," she continued. "He just looked at me for a moment like he was trying to memorize me, and I could see how badly he wanted me."
She smiled faintly.
"Then he kissed me again, and I stopped thinking so much. He kept his hands on me as he guided me backward, slowly, until the backs of my legs touched the bed. I lost my balance and fell back onto it, and he laughed softly before leaning over me, and that's when he slipped my panties off."
Her voice dropped lower. "He was already so hard when he took his clothes off. He was so big, baby, so long and thick. I must have pulled a funny face when I saw it because he noticed. He told me not to worry and that he would start gently."
I unzipped the side of her dress and slipped it from her shoulders. Shivani lifted her hips so I could pull it down over them and off. She removed her bra, and I slipped her panties off. She lay back on our bed, naked, thighs slightly parted. The soft light from the hallway caught the faint sheen still between them.
I settled between her legs, on my knees.
Now, she smelled like sex. Another man's cologne mixed with her perfume and the unmistakable scent of thick, salty cum that hadn't been washed away. I ran my hands up the inside of her thighs, causing her to shudder. There were faint red marks where Deepak’s fingers had gripped her, and higher, the skin was still sticky in places.
Shivani watched me with shallow breath.
"He slipped between my legs, and just... looked for a second. Then he started fingering me. One finger at first, then a second. Slowly, but he was going deeper and deeper. He found that spot and kept rubbing it while he watched my face. I came the first time like that. Just from his hand. It surprised me how fast it happened. I was already so worked up from the kissing and the anticipation."
Her voice tightened as I brushed my thumb over her outer lips. She was still swollen, still open.
"Then, he ate me out. He licked me slow, then faster. Sucking and fingering me. I came again with his face buried between my legs. My thighs were shaking. I remember gripping his hair while it happened."
I lowered my head and dragged my tongue along the length of her used pussy.
She gasped.
The taste hit me immediately. Her usual sweetness undercut by a thick, bitter residue. I licked deeper, spreading her open with my thumbs, tasting every bit of her. Shivani’s hips twitched. Her hands found my hair the same way they must have found his.
"Fuck," she whispered. "That's...that's what it felt like. Only he was rougher. He kept going, even after I came a second time."
I pushed two fingers inside of her, exploring my wife's used cunt. She was still loose, still slick, still full of him. I curled them against her G-spot, the same way that he must have, and sucked her clit the way she described. Shivani’s back arched. A broken little moan slipped out of her.
When the tremors eased, I lifted my head. Her chest was rising and falling fast. A thin string of spit and come connected my lower lip to her cunt for a second before it broke. I wiped my mouth with the back of my hand, then crawled up her body until I was braced over her. My cock was aching, hard against her sticky thigh.

Shivani’s hands came up to my chest, stopping me before I could push in.
Her voice was still rough from the orgasm. "After he made me come a couple of times, he stood up by the side of the bed."
I stayed braced above her, waiting.
"He held it out toward me and just... looked at me. I knew what he wanted. I'd never done that with anyone but you. My heart was pounding. Part of me still couldn't believe I was about to put another man's cock in my mouth."
Her eyes stayed on mine.
"I sat up, swung my legs over the edge of the bed, and took it in my hand. It felt so different to you... hotter, heavier, the skin was smoother. I stroked it a couple of times, just getting used to the size, then leaned in and licked the head. He made this low groan. I opened wider and took him in. Slow at first. Just the head, then more. My jaw stretched."
Shivani’s breath hitched at the memory.
"I started sucking. Bobbing my head. Using my hand on what I couldn't fit. He put his fingers in my hair. He didn't push me down or anything, just held me and watched me. I looked up at him while I did it. That felt the most wrong. Having cock sliding over my tongue, stretching my jaw, while he stared down at me like that."
She paused, cheeks flushing deeper.
"After a minute, he tightened his grip in my hair and started moving his hips. Not hard, but, steady thrusts, fucking my mouth a little. Taking control. I stayed still and let him. My eyes watered. Spit ran down my chin and dripped onto my chest. He kept going until I was making these choking sounds around him, until my lips felt swollen. Then he pulled out, tipped my chin up with his thumb, and told me to lie back."
Her voice dropped.
I stared down at my wife, still flushed, still sticky, still full of another man's cum, and the image of her on the edge of a stranger's bed with his cock stretching her lips and sliding into her throat burned behind my eyes.
I reached down, lined myself up, and pushed into the wet heat of my wife's used cunt. My cock entered her in one long, slow thrust.
She moaned, low, as I entered her easily. "He climbed over me, settled between my legs, and pushed into me. Just the head at first. He was gentle, like he said. But god baby, it stretched me so good. I made this stupid little noise when he entered me. He was slow. Let me adjust. Then he started moving. Deep and steady. I came pretty fast again. Just from the fullness and the fact that it was happening at all. He kept going, didn't stop. I'm not sure if he even noticed. He put one hand under my hip and tilted me up so he could get deeper. The other was in my hair."
I was fucking her steadily now, and she had to pause her recounting as she shuddered around my cock, coming again at the memory.
"After a while, I'd came a few times, then he flipped me onto my stomach, pulled my hips up, and fucked me from behind. Harder this time. I held onto the sheets. I could hear the headboard hitting the wall. I came again like that, face down and moaning. I was completely gone. He came not long after, gripping my hips so hard. He came so deep. God, he filled me, baby."
I was fucking her desperately now, readying myself to fill her with my own seed.
Shivani was moaning now; it was getting harder for her to talk. "But that's not all, baby, we cuddled for a bit until he got hard again and asked if I wanted more. I said yes. That time, I was on top. Riding him. Watching his face while I moved. He kept his hands on my waist and just let me take what I needed. I came again, grinding down on him, and he finished inside of me again."
She looked at me with dark, glassy eyes as this new piece of information pushed me over the edge, and my cock spasmed and unloaded deep inside of her used pussy.
I rolled off of her, breathing heavily.
Shivani’s voice had gone to a whisper, "That's what happened. Then we talked for a bit, I got dressed, and he called me a taxi."
We lay side by side in the dark. The only sound was our slowing breaths and the faint tick of the ceiling fan. My cum mixed with his inside of her, warm and thick, already starting to leak out onto the sheets between her thighs. The room smelled like sex; hers, mine, and the ghost of someone else that clung to her skin.
I stared at the ceiling for a long time before I spoke.
"Do you want to do it again?" I asked.
Shivani was quiet for a moment. Then she shifted closer, resting her cheek against my shoulder.
"I don't know," she said honestly. "Part of me wants to. It felt... different. Exciting. But the whole time I kept thinking about you. About coming home and telling you." Her fingers traced light circles on my chest. "I love you. That hasn't changed. I just... I liked being wanted by someone new. I liked how it made me feel."
I turned my head and pressed a kiss into her hair. She still smelled like her perfume, like the long night, like him underneath it all. I didn't mind anymore. Or maybe I did, and the minding was part of what made my pulse still race.
I know," I said. "I wanted this too. I just didn't know it would feel this... I don't know." I struggled to articulate my thoughts.
She lifted her face and kissed me slowly and softly.
"I'm glad it's you I get to come home to," she whispered.
I pulled her tighter against me, one hand sliding down to rest on the curve of her ass, where I knew the faint marks his fingers had left. Outside the window, the sky was dark. Somewhere in the city, Deepak was probably asleep in the bed she'd left only a few hours ago. Here, in ours, my wife was warm and sticky and mine again.
I closed my eyes.
We didn't talk anymore about whether she would see him again. Not yet. The night had been enough. The truth of it sat between us like a third body in the bed, heavy and undeniable, and somehow we both slept anyway. Tangled together in ruined sheets, the first pale light of morning creeping across the floor.

Good one! I read a similar story on Xossip. can’t remember the name, where the husband would set up a date for his wife with another guy every birthday.
