Chapter 1
The Guests
The room was buzzing with different sounds. The party was in full flow. Raj did not expect that it would get so crowded. There was barely a moving space in his big 2bhk house. He moved awkwardly but kept his smiling face on. He greeted and talked with almost everyone who had come. But he knew he was not the main focus of the party, and he was happy about that. It was his wife Priya. She was undoubtedly the most beautiful in the room, hell she was that anywhere you would go. She was the party person and genuinely was interested in setting up every little thing. They both were the hosts but everyone knew who to ask questions if they wanted anything. And Priya was happily helping them, looking after them. She was wearing a maroon printed velvet long dress which hugged her upper body tightly and then it flowed towards her lower body in the opposite direction of her body. It was one of the few dresses that she liked which was brought by him and she looked stunning in it. She has lost nearly 5kgs in the last few months, but for him she looked the same. She had broad shoulders and ample breasts which were bigger and firm but looked appropriate for her body. She has broader hips and an ass and thighs to kill for. It gave way for an hourglass figure, but she was not perfect. After having their kid she went through a lot of body issues physically and mentally, only from last year she has been feeling better. She has been a sort of gym animal especially in the last few months. He has not seen her so motivated for all the last 10 years he has known her.
Like Priya, Kiara was the life party. At 4, she was the cutest and everyone marveled at the fact that how well behaved she was. She looked like a carbon copy of her mother.
“I didn’t think you could throw such a party.” Exclaimed Prerna , his office colleague, it broke Raj from his thoughts.
“it’s not him, it’s all Priya.” , Sushmita, quickly replied.
“You cannot let me enjoy a single praise.” Raj showed fake anger. “no”, was a quick reply. They all laughed. Priya came to them,
“How are you all guys?”
“Till now it has been very boring, all because of your husband, but now that you are here, we are already feeling better.” Jaymin said laughingly.
Jaymin was one of the board members from Raj’s tech firm. Raj worked at Deccan technology pvt ltd company which deals with providing banking software solutions. Raj was a leading software engineer and close to Jaymin. This also made him a target and a subject of jealousy among his other colleagues. Raj didn’t want to invite all of his colleagues but Priya insisted. But Priya didn’t stay much longer with them and mingled with other guests.
“Hey everyone.”, loomed a coarse and hollow voice of Priya’s father, Vijay. After the initial chatter died down, everyone in the room had eyes on him now.
“We are here to celebrate a couple of things. First, my wife Sushma's retirement party.” This gave way to lots of cheer and claps from the audience, Raj was one of them. Priya’s father continued,
“and the second is of my daughter Priya and my son in law Raj’s promotion.” That gave me the same cheer as before.
“It's a rare occasion that both husband and wife got their promotions, but we are not complaining.” He added with his booming laughter.
“Thank you all for joining us and celebrating with us. Let the feast start.”
Laughter loomed in the house. The guests were a mixture of Raj, Priya and Priya’s mom’s, office colleagues and some close family friends. The catering people started rushing to arrange. Priya and Raj both joined them and for the next two hours they were fully occupied with that.
Nearly half of the guests were gone at the end of it. Priya’s parents were engaged in deep conversation about politics with Priya's mom’s office colleagues.
“Raj, Raj, come here!!” Priya was shouting from afar.
Raj followed Priya’s voice direction. Priya was laughing and chatting with a couple. They were of the same age as him and Priya in their late twenties or early thirties. The woman was slim, good-looking and had a slender physique with a trim waistline and toned muscles, contributing to a graceful and agile appearance. The man was good looking too with dimples on his cheeks with an aura of confidence about him. He was of good height nearly towering above 6ft as compared to the woman who stood nearly half a foot shorter than him. He was fair skinned like Priya and exhibited a strong and muscular build, with a commanding presence. But Raj somehow knew this face , especially the dimples and the laughter. He just couldn’t place it where he had seen this before. They were all laughing when Raj arrived.
“Hey, this is Raj, my husband.” Priya looked at Raj and introduced him to the couple.
“Wait Priya!! Do not tell him.” The man smilingly said,
“Do you recognise him ?” Priya asked.
Raj was not able to place him, but he knew at least that laughing face and his voice.
“Vikram!!!” Raj nearly shouted.
It was like an impulse which his brain threw at him.
“How did you manage that? I am impressed.” Priya said, completely surprised at him.
“I was just telling her that he will not recognise me.” Vikram said with a bit of arrogance to it, but it was somehow friendly.
Vikram Mahajan, he was in the same college as both Priya and Raj. Vikram was in the 4th year when Raj and Priya were in the 1st year of college. Vikram was the ‘guy’ in the college. His popularity was immense, he was good in everything, studies, sports and girls, especially girls. They barely had any conversation in college but Raj knew him. Something about him made him hate him in college with no reason at all. All those memories came back to him like lightning strikes.
“and she is Sonia, Vikram’s wife.” The woman smiled beside Vikram.
She had this air of intelligence and caring about her. In a weird way Raj thought that she was attractive, because he was never into slim girls. He quickly suppressed that though and welcomed them. He learnt that they had come a few minutes back and they were apologizing for that. This was the first time Priya was meeting Vikram too after college. She was also surprised when they came. Vedha, Priya’s best friend, had brought them to the party. Vikram and Sonia were feeling awkward but Priya had made them feel at home. After a few more chats Raj got pulled for other guests as a lot of them were leaving now.
