Scene 1: The Arrangement's Price

The quiet, late evening gathering at Vikram's house was winding down. Soft music drifted through the dimly lit space. It was the fourth day of Shalini's marriage, and she felt the heavy weight of her husband's secret.

Shalini: "Vikram, thank you again for inviting me tonight. It was… refreshing to meet so many wonderful people."

Vikram: "It was my pleasure, Shalini. You light up the surrounding, really. Your presence is… impossible to ignore."

Shalini: * (laughs softly, tilts head slightly) * "I hope I didn’t draw too much attention."

Vikram: "Not at all. Though I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t… paying extra attention myself."
(Shalini leans slightly, letting her hand brush his arm casually, her touch light but lingering enough to build rapport.)

Shalini: * (playful, sincere) * "Vikram, I feel like I’m learning so much from everyone tonight… but I realized, sometimes guidance is worth more than just conversation. There are… practical challenges I’m facing."

Vikram: * (curious, attentive) * "Challenges? Tell me more."

Shalini: * (looking down briefly, then meeting his eyes, voice soft) * "Well… Raghav is… not in the best financial position right now. Some obligations, some debts. I’m trying to make sense of everything, but…"
(pauses, lets her eyes convey vulnerability without desperation)

Shalini: "I want to make sure our home is secure, our life stable, before it becomes too difficult." Vikram, main chahti hoon ki hamara ghar surakshit ho, hamari zindagi theek ho, isse pehle ki bahut mushkil ho jaaye.

Vikram: * (nodding, concerned) * "I see… that’s… challenging. Are you handling it on your own?" Achha... yeh to mushkil hai. Kya tum akele sambhaal rahi ho?

Shalini: * (smiling gently, leaning in slightly) * "I’m trying. I have ideas… but having someone with experience… someone I can trust… can make all the difference." Main koshish kar rahi hoon. Mere paas kuch vichaar hain... lekin kisi anubhavi vyakti ka hona… jis par main bharosa kar sakoon… bahut farak laa sakta hai.
(She lightly touches his hand while laughing at a shared memory from the gathering — casual, affectionate.)

Vikram: * (sensing her subtle appeal) * "You’re very capable, Shalini. But… perhaps some support isn’t out of place. I could help you, if you think it would make a difference." Tum bahut samarth ho, Shalini. Par... shayad thoda sahara galat nahi hai. Main tumhari madad kar sakta hoon, agar tumhe lagta hai ki isse farak padega.

Shalini: * (softly, with warmth and appreciation) * "Vikram… that would mean a great deal. Not just financially, but… it’s comforting to know someone believes in us, in me. I promise I’ll make it worth your trust." Vikram… iska bahut bada matlab hoga. Sirf paison ke liye nahi, balki… yeh jaankar tasalli milti hai ki koi hum mein, mujh mein vishwas karta hai. Main vaada karti hoon ki main aapke bharose ke layak rahoongi.

Vikram: * (smiling, slightly flushed) * "I trust you, Shalini. I’ll see what I can do. You deserve a stable home." Mujhe tum par bharosa hai, Shalini. Main dekhta hoon ki main kya kar sakta hoon. Tum ek sthir ghar ki hakdaar ho.

Shalini: * (smiling, lightly brushing her fingers against his wrist) * "Thank you, Vikram. Truly. It gives me hope… and a little courage too." Shukriya, Vikram. Sach mein. Yeh mujhe ummeed deta hai… aur thodi himmat bhi.

Vikram: * (smiling, slightly flushed) * "You have a way of inspiring people, Shalini. And you’ve handled tonight so gracefully… I think there’s more we could discuss, in a quieter, more relaxed setting." Tum mein logon ko prerit karne ka ek tareeka hai, Shalini. Aur tumne aaj raat sab kuch itni khoobsoorti se sambhala hai… mujhe lagta hai ki hum aur baat kar sakte hain, ek shant, aaramdayak jagah par.

Shalini: * (curious, tilting her head) * "Oh? And where would that be?" Achha? Aur woh jagah kahan hogi?

Vikram: * (Looking at Shalini's chest) * "My farmhouse, just outside the city. Tomorrow afternoon — it’s peaceful there, perfect for going over plans… and maybe enjoying the day a little differently than in the city." Mera farmhouse, shahar se thoda bahar. Kal dopahar — wahan shanti hai, yojnaon par baat karne ke liye bilkul sahi… aur shayad din ko shahar se thoda alag tarike se enjoy karne ke liye.

Shalini: * (smiles faintly, eyes playful) * "That sounds… lovely. I’d be happy to come. A quiet day might help me think clearly." Yeh… bahut pyara lag raha hai. Main aana pasand karungi. Ek shant din mujhe saaf sochne mein madad kar sakta hai.

Vikram: * (leaning slightly, friendly tone) * "Great. I’ll make sure it’s comfortable — just us, some tea, the garden, and time to talk without distractions." Badhiya. Main pakka karunga ki sab aaramdayak ho — sirf hum dono, chai, bageecha, aur bina kisi rukawat ke baat karne ka samay.

Shalini: * (light laugh, brushing a stray strand of hair behind her ear) * "I appreciate that, Vikram. Tomorrow, then." Main iski saraahna karti hoon, Vikram. Toh, kal milte hain.

(They exchange a warm smile, hands briefly touching as she stands to leave. Vikram notices the subtle grace in her movements; Shalini notes the small victory in her mind.)
