First decision was his....to ask his wife to take part in his fantasy, explaining that she too would enjoy as his own sexual performance was so so. Thereafter, she took over.....

Also, the writer describes his character as a fairly normal guy, going to work, having kids, family life, sex, etc. So I don't think he is into BDSM/etc. where he psychologically experiences pleasure from emotional and physical pain/humiliation. As I said, pain is pain here.

I still say that his primary reason for getting an erection while his wife talks about various aspects of being with Shahnawaz or Vivek, is because of his original fantasy of seeing her with another man.
