Horrors!! This is so awful!! Awful!! Awful!!

Kajol cannot explain why she did what she did, she says there must be something rotten in her. She understands Ramesh's feelings and expected his reaction. But what is unexpected (for me) is her decision to keep the baby  get a divorce.

Ramesh, despite his obvious anger at Kajol, seemed to be focusing on the immediate problem - the baby. Typical action man. Kajol, feeling totally wretched, does not want Ramesh to carry any lingering doubts in the longer term, for her the relationship can never be the same regardless of any discussion. She thinks she already knows how Ramesh would react in the longer term. Again, Kajol makes a decision by herself that affects the two of them, affects any repair plan or compromises that Ramesh might come up with. And by keeping the baby which could be Raos, the prof's, Bhimu's or any of the prof's buddies, it seems she want to keep the legacy of her trysts. Traumatic as an abortion will be in the immediate term, it offers future hope. She is young enough to have another baby.
Kajol, is not allowing the normal husband/wife relationship to take its course, she is second guessing him. As she does not know what Ramesh's thought processes would be as things start to settle down, I think her decision is premature. She is using her own guilt to prevent Ramesh from experiencing any future regrets. Why should she make a decision for Ramesh? And Ramesh's final agreement was, in my opinion, forced on him by Kajol's own thought process. She led him to that decision.

Ramesh has been a loving husband over the years, showing considerable thought about his wife's well being, got her enrolled in a PhD program, her future prospects, planning a family, considering their long term security, found another job with better prospects. And in a time of crisis, his first thoughts were not about leaving her, even though he was naturally angry. He, in fact, was trying to find a solution for THEM - get rid of the baby of unknown origin and then take the time to think things through. This alone shows that despite his obvious anger, he still considers Kajol as his wife and his sole intent is how to recover the situation.

Kajol, while quite rightly sacrificing herself and proposing divorce, unexpectedly wants to keep the baby despite all the issues. May be a womanly thing, and certainly her prerogative. But her decisions without Ramesh's input are just selfish and a self sacrifice. She should hear what Ramesh has to say after he settles down. If she is concerned about what Ramesh might think whenever she is with another man, they can find ways of alleviating doubt, e.g. try not to be alone with another man, try to be in situations which prevent doubts, and time is a healer. By her own actions, she will regain trust. So many couples find ways back together (and many don't, of course) after such breakdowns. How many hubbies have affairs and still end up staying married? Why does she just give up?? Heck, they haven't even done a simple paternity test yet. Keeping the legacy of what happened isn't even her intention. What kind of ending would that be?? Even she hated the Rao's diabolical plan.

This "keeping the baby and divorcing" situation is just leaving a lasting bitterness for me. I wonder what others think?
