The rest of the evening was uneventful. I was surrounded by the ladies and we sang, danced and drank till late in the night. Baba, along with the rest of the men, joined us and he kept his distance from me, but had his eyes on me all the time.

Everyone woke up at dawn since the wedding Muhurat was scheduled very early. Everyone was busy getting ready to go to the wedding hall, and I didn’t bump into Baba.

By 7 am, we were at the venue. The bride’s family welcomed us in the traditional way and the wedding party was escorted inside. Nikhil and Aai Baba went on the stage where the pandit started the pooja and other ceremonies of the wedding. I sat on a sofa in the front row facing the stage and watched the wedding. I also mingled with the family as the wedding ceremonies went on.

Even though Baba was occupied with the ceremonies, he would glance at me every now and then. He even gestured to me that I looked very beautiful. I was indeed looking very pretty.

I was wearing a red silk saree with a golden border. I wore the saree perfectly without leaving any creases. The saree hugged my voluptuous figure, especially my butt and the red blouse under my pallu accentuated my bosom. I was wearing light makeup but had a bright red lipstick on. My hair was beautifully done, with a thick braid flowing down to my waist. I noticed quite a few stares on me, especially from the men on the bride’s side, as I walked around.

After a while, the bride was escorted to the stage by her uncle. The priest continued the ceremony. The wedding ceremony was elaborate as per vedic customs. Kanyadaan was followed by the phera and finally the Mangalashtak was recited, followed by the varmala ceremony. By noon, Nikhil and Niharika were finally married.

The wedding was followed by a reception. All the relatives and other guests went on stage to wish the couple well and to take photographs. After all the guests were done, the groom’s family was asked to come on stage for a picture.

We all went on stage. Nikhil and Niharika were sitting on royal wedding chairs while the rest of us stood behind them for the photo. Me, Aai and Baba stood directly behind the couple, the lower halves of our bodies hidden behind the chairs. I was standing to Baba’s left, whereas Aai was to his right. Everyone else was on our flanks. There was nothing behind us other than the screen.

“Everyone… look here…” the cameraman called out.

Just then, I felt Baba’s hand on my butt. He caressed my right cheek before giving it a tight squeeze. I bit my lips and suppressed a giggle as I felt his hand squeeze my butt tightly.

“Ready… Smile!” the cameraman called out again, and the cameras flashed. I’m sure my smile in the photograph was the biggest.

By the time everything wound up and we got ready to go back home, it was 11 pm. Everyone was tired after a long day of festivities and ceremonies, but there was also a sense of joy.

I decided to join the rest of the relatives in the bus because the innova was full of luggage and gifts. Nikhil and Niharika’s car was full of luggage, and Niharika’s sister also joined to drop her to her new home, as was the tradition.

The bus was already full by the time I entered. There were only a couple of seats at the back. I sat down at the window seat and pushed the seat back and tried to relax. Just then, I heard Baba enter the bus as well.

“Nikhil’s car is already full. I asked Niharika’s sister to sit in the innova with Suman. So I thought I’d take a seat on the bus. I hope you don’t mind,” he said politely as he walked towards my seat.

“Can I sit here?” he asked, standing in front of me.

“Sure Baba,” I said, and he made himself comfortable on the seat next to me.

I smiled to myself, knowing fully well that this was just another smart plot by Baba. But I wondered if he was going to try doing something with the entire family right in front of us.
