The days that followed settled into a new, quieter cruelty.
Fatima no longer bothered to hide the smell of another man when she came home. Sometimes she walked straight to the mat in the corner, still wet between her legs, and sat down to whisper the old words while Sameer knelt behind her and cleaned her without being asked. The guilt still rose in her chest every time — thick, familiar, almost comforting — but it no longer stopped her. It only made the heat between her thighs sharper.
One evening she returned later than usual. The long black abaya she had started wearing again outside was slightly wrinkled. Underneath she wore nothing. She stood in the doorway of the bedroom, lifted the heavy cloth with one hand, and looked at her husband.
“You’re getting slow,” she said softly. “I shouldn’t have to wait.”
Sameer scrambled off the mattress on the floor and crawled to her. She watched his face as he pushed the abaya higher and put his mouth on her. She was still open from Rakesh, still slick, and she kept her eyes on Sameer the entire time he worked. When she came she did not hide the sound. She let a low, broken moan leave her throat and felt the old shame flood through her body even as her hips pushed forward against her husband’s tongue.
Afterward she sat on the edge of the bed, abaya still open, and spoke in the same calm voice.
“You taste him every time now. Do you understand what that makes you?”
Sameer kept his eyes down. “Yes.”
“Say it.”
He swallowed. “It makes me… the one who cleans what better men leave.”
Fatima’s lips curved slightly. The guilt was still there, heavy and real, but underneath it something colder and hungrier had taken root. She reached out and rested her fingers under his chin, forcing him to look up.
“Good. Remember that the next time you feel sorry for yourself.”
That night Rakesh stayed longer.
Fatima kept the abaya on at first, only opening it when she was ready. She made Sameer sit in the corner with his hands on his thighs while Rakesh fucked her slowly on the bed, one hand wrapped in the black cloth of her veil, the other gripping her hip. Every time she came she looked straight at her husband. The shame of it still burned, but the burn had become part of the pleasure.
When Rakesh finally finished he pulled out and stood over her. Fatima, still breathing hard, turned her head toward Sameer.
“Clean us both,” she said. “Properly.”
Sameer’s face flushed deep red, but he crawled forward. Fatima watched every second — the way her husband’s mouth moved over her, then over Rakesh, the way his hands shook, the way he refused to meet anyone’s eyes. The old guilt rose again, strong enough that her throat tightened, yet she did not stop him. She only rested one hand lightly on the back of Sameer’s head and kept him there until she was satisfied.
After Rakesh left she sat on the mat for a long time, veil still on, whispering the old words in a low voice. Sameer stayed on his knees nearby, waiting. When she finished she looked at him without turning her head.
“You’re learning,” she said quietly. “But you’re still too slow when I come home wet. Next time I expect you already on your knees at the door.”
Sameer whispered, “Yes, Fatima.”
She adjusted the abaya around her body and stood.
“Go sleep on the floor. I want the bed to myself tonight.”
He obeyed without another word.
Fatima lay down in the dark, the taste of guilt and power mixed thick on her tongue, and already began thinking about the next time Rakesh would bring someone else.
The soft-spoken wife who once believed desire was something to be endured was disappearing faster than she had expected.
And she was no longer trying to stop it.
