:::::::::The Side Room – The Second Condition::::::::
The side room was smaller and quieter than the main floor. The bass from the club still reached them as a low vibration through the walls, but the coloured lights and the open stage were gone. Only a single warm lamp lit the space. The three selected women stood near a low couch, still in the same short, sleeveless costumes, midriffs bare, the residual heat of the performance and the selection still on their skin.
Taboo was the first to speak. She smiled the same easy smile she had worn on stage.
“Hi. I’m Taboo.”
The second woman gave a small nod.
“I’m Spurthi.”
Nisha felt the false name settle on her tongue. She had prepared it on the boat.
“Hi. I’m Pooja.”
They exchanged brief, polite wishes. For a moment the room held only the ordinary awkwardness of three women who had just been chosen together and did not yet know what the rest of the night required.
Then Taboo’s expression shifted slightly.
“And we have another test.”
Nisha’s head turned at once.
“Another test? What is this?”
The surprise in her voice was real. In all the planning — the false death, the dancer cover, the boat, the performance, the raised-arm inspection — she had mapped the selection as the final gate into the private side. She had not accounted for a second condition after the knife and the nod.
Taboo lowered her voice.
“I think… before, one of my friends told me. They will do pierced.”
The word hung in the small room.
Spurthi’s eyes widened. Nisha felt a cold drop move through her stomach. Pierced. She did not need the rest of the sentence to understand. Her hand moved instinctively, almost protectively, toward the bare plane of her midriff and the deep oval of her navel that had been the final point of Duke’s knife only minutes earlier.
Before either of them could ask more, the door opened.
Duke stepped inside. The small knife was no longer in his hand. His expression was the same calm, practical one he had worn during the selection.
“Congrats to you three,” he said. “Tony likes your bodies. Face expressions. And final thing — your navels. Tony sir likes your three members’ tummy. You three have to get pierced there.”
The silence that followed was absolute.
Nisha heard her own pulse in her ears. The mission required her to stay inside. The private rooms, the routes to Vidya, the chance to map the compound — all of it sat on the other side of this new demand. At the same time the thought of a permanent mark, a piercing she had never agreed to in any plan, locked her voice for a second.
When she found it, the refusal came out clear and immediate.
“I don’t like to pierce.”
Duke looked at her without surprise, as if he had heard the same sentence before from other women on other nights.
“You can take the amount and leave from here,” he said. “No problem. The boat goes back in the morning. Payment for the performance is already counted.”
He did not raise his voice. He did not threaten. He simply placed the choice in front of her: accept the piercing and remain one of the three who would continue into the private side of the night, or take the money, walk away, and lose the cleanest route she had fought to open.
Taboo said nothing. Spurthi looked at the floor. Nisha stood very still, the residual memory of the cold knife tip still vivid in the centre of her navel, and felt the entire mission balance on the next decision she would have to speak aloud...
Nisha stood in the small side room for a full two minutes after Duke’s offer.
The choice was simple and brutal. Refuse the piercing, take the payment, and return to the boat in the morning — losing the only clean route she had into the private side of the compound. Accept it, and remain one of the three women who would continue deeper into the place that still held Vidya.
She thought of the false death she had staged, the boat, the dance, the knife tip resting in her navel under the spotlight. All of it had been for this: to get inside. A permanent mark on her body was a price she had not planned for, but it was still a price she could choose to pay.
“I’ll do it,” she said at last.
Duke nodded once, without surprise or satisfaction.
“Very good. You three go to the next rooms. There are reclining chairs. Our specialist will come and do the work for all three of you. It is clean and quick if you stay still.”
He left them.
Taboo, Spurthi, and Nisha (still using the name Pooja) walked together into the adjoining space. Three reclining chairs had been set up, each with a small curtain that could be drawn for privacy. A low table beside each chair held a sealed medical tray. The atmosphere was quieter here, almost clinical after the noise of the club.
Taboo was the first to speak as they settled.
“My friend told me this part happens sometimes. If you want to stay for the private night, this is the mark they ask for. We can still walk away. The money for the stage is already ours.”
Spurthi looked at the tray and then at the other two.
“I’m staying,” she said. “I already decided.”
Nisha met Taboo’s eyes.
“I’m staying too.”
Three members accepted and waited...
woman named Tina entered a few minutes later. She wore simple dark clothes and medical gloves, and she carried herself with the practical calm of someone who had done this before. She checked each tray, confirmed the sterile packages, and spoke to the three of them together.
Tina began with Taboo. The curtain was drawn partway. From the other side of the thin fabric Nisha and Spurthi heard only low voices — instructions to lie back, to relax the stomach, the brief sound of antiseptic, and then a short, sharp intake of breath followed by a controlled Tina is a lesbian and she praises taboo body looks hot and he touches here and there her body and finally “Ahh—” that faded quickly. Within a few minutes Tina’s voice came again, calm and practical.
“Done. Small design on the other end of the bar. Keep it clean. You can sit up when you’re ready.”
Taboo’s curtain opened. She looked pale but steady, one hand resting lightly near the new silver catch in her navel. She gave the other two a small nod.
“It’s quick. Stings, then it’s over.”
Spurthi went next. The same sequence of quiet sounds. The same short, sharp breath. When her curtain opened she was already examining the new piercing with a mixture of surprise and acceptance.
