It is not that every woman looks for an “alpha” male, but there is an evolutionary reason why women may prefer partners with qualities like strength, good health, immunity, fitness and longevity. From an evolutionary point of view, choosing a strong and healthy partner can increase the chances of producing healthy offspring and passing those genes to the next generation. Richard Dawkins explains this idea in The Selfish Gene—genes that are better at surviving and reproducing are the ones that continue through generations. So, what we see as attraction to certain qualities in a partner can, at least partly, be understood as one of the mechanisms through which genes have survived over millions of years.
Is this western inherited from Western Erotic litrature ?
No, thats because you dont know Tamil literature ( i am not sure if such literature, exist in Sanskrit, but it surely exist in Bengali also in the name of Parakiya tradition.
See the below poem which is more than 900 years old written by Ottakoothar in Tamil.
( basically they are topless while rushing to see the Alpha)
English Translation :
While her beloved was sporting in the forest, she had been delighting in his embrace, clasping his chest tightly. Then she heard the great clamour of the women, the conch loudly proclaiming, “The Lord who bears the discus is coming!”, and the resounding beat of the drums. Hearing all this, she released her hold on her husband and hurried away, so quickly that even the garment fastened around her came undone.
Same way one more poem goes like this
English Translation:
Her household life, her husband, and the noble virtue of the chaste wife she had possessed—all began to suffer. Completely overcome by love, she neglected her children and relatives, and, absorbed in her infatuation, she would no longer speak even with her parrot or pet mynah.
When she saw the form of the king adorned with shining ornaments, she became utterly enamoured(strongly attracted/captivated by someone) of him. She, whose graceful form was like a great peacock and whose radiance flashed like lightning, was captivated by him…
Amma Vanthaal: In 1965, there was novel by writer Janakiranan Amma vanthal ( translated as Sins of Appus Mother ) - Where the story exactly goes like this story by our Author.
May be the word Alpha is new, but it existed all along with different names. These are not western imports, it clearly existed long before westeners !!!
My take
Many men feel uncomfortable acknowledging the existence of “alpha” men because it can make them compare themselves with men who have greater health, strength, confidence, social status or resources. Accepting that such differences exist can feel like accepting that some men may naturally be more desirable or successful in certain areas, which can trigger insecurity or defensiveness.
