The Couple's Experiment - The Truth Changes Everything-Continuation

Chapter 1 — The Viewpoint
Jeeva’s hand left Tara’s knee when the jeep appeared in the fog. The steel tea glasses were still warm. She kissed him longer than the place required. The extra second was for her, not for the man checking a tyre so he would not have to watch.
When she walked to Sam the gravel sounded too loud. He took the bag because that is what men do when they have been invited to carry something and are trying not to look invited. His palm found her waist. Balance, then not only balance. Heat went down her spine and settled between her legs as if a waist could be a mouth. She climbed in with the tote on her lap and did not look at Jeeva’s car until it was already mist.
The jeep smelled of dust and his soap — not better than Jeeva’s, only other. Other was the problem she had packed in tissue under a cream maxi. She crossed her legs. The wine brief, worn because she was a fool, was already damp along the slit. Every hairpin made the cloth rub her. She spoke about the road so she would not speak about that.
Sam asked if she wanted the window down. She said no, then yes, then no. Cold air tightened her nipples against lace. He kept his eyes on the tar. She watched his wrist on the wheel and hated how easily a wrist could become a thought.
He does not know there is a notebook, she told herself. He does not know he was scored. He only knows I asked for morning light.
Chapter 2 — The Listing Lied
One bed. The website sofa was a love seat that would have broken a man’s back.
I’ll talk to reception, Sam said.
Don’t. The word came too fast. We can manage. Early shoot. I sleep early.
He looked at her the way a man looks when he is checking whether manage means stay or I am being polite. Alright, he said. Window side is mine.
She locked the bathroom and sat on the closed lid. In the plan he did not know, this room was weather. Walk out. See if you come home wet. The plan had not included the sound of a latch you chose yourself.
She pulled the maxi to her waist. The brief was already dark in the centre from the jeep. She wiped herself with tissue, saw the shine, and put the same brief back on. A clean pair would have been a confession to the bag.
When she came out he had given her the room — standing on the step in the cold rather than assuming steam included him. Her nipples showed through the maxi. He looked once and dropped his eyes. She still saw him thicken in his trousers before he turned to the window. Nobody said the word. The silence was dirtier than the word would have been.
