1. Why doesn’t Arjun confront Ravi at any point in the story?


Arjun does not confront Ravi because he is naturally weak, fearful, and an extreme overthinker who always imagines the worst possible consequences before acting. Ravi has already warned him that if he interferes or tries to expose him, there will be serious consequences for him, Amma, and the family. Because of this threat, every time Arjun feels the urge to confront Ravi, he freezes and starts overthinking what Ravi might do in return. This behaviour is consistent with his established character — he was bullied in college because he could not stand up for himself, and even now he feels nervous speaking to unfamiliar people. He feels safest only around his family, which is why he remains a silent watcher instead of taking action, no matter how much anger and helplessness he feels inside.

2. Why can’t Arjun simply tell Amma everything he has seen?

Arjun cannot tell Amma the truth because he is terrified of how she will look at him once she realises he has known almost everything from the beginning. He fears that Amma will feel deeply betrayed and disgusted when she understands that her own son was secretly watching her most vulnerable and intimate moments instead of helping or stopping what was happening. This creates a heavy internal conflict in him — part of him desperately wants to protect her and confess everything, but a stronger part is paralysed by the fear that she will never see him the same way again. The shame of being a silent witness who sometimes felt arousal while watching makes it even harder for him to speak, so he continues to stay silent to protect the image she still has of him.

3. Why did the husband give up on his wife so easily instead of confronting Ravi properly?

Murugan did not give up because he stopped loving his wife, but because he was already a broken man long before that night. He had been a long-term alcoholic, financially failed, and publicly humiliated in the village, so when he finally confronted Ravi he was completely unprepared for the scale of the truth. He expected mild suspicion, but instead faced physical domination, the original thaali in Ravi’s hand, confirmation of a sexual relationship, and the cold declaration that his wife had already accepted another man. Ravi controlled the entire power dynamic by first making Murugan look unstable, then overpowering him physically, and finally destroying him psychologically with calculated words that blamed Murugan’s own failures. For a traditional man, seeing the thaali he himself had tied now in another man’s possession was devastating. Since Murugan’s nature has always been short bursts of anger followed by retreat, the combination of shock, shame, self-blame, and total powerlessness made him collapse rather than fight.
