Chapter 155: One Night Two Brides
# Scene 1
Selvam stared.
Two women stood in his doorway. Red silk. Gold embroidery thick along the borders. Dupattas covered their faces, sheer fabric with gold edges, but he could see their eyes through it. Downcast. Shy in perfect unison.
Vanitha on the left. The gold at her wrists caught the hall light. The silver tumbler in her hands steamed faintly.
Summer on the right. Her dark-blonde hair was visible beneath the dupatta, pulled back in some complicated arrangement Vanitha must have taught her in the last hour. Her fingers gripped the tumbler too tight.
His towel lay on the floor. He didn’t remember dropping it.
“This is not happening,” he said.
Vanitha’s eyes lifted through the dupatta. The practiced modesty cracked for half a second. Then returned.
“Good evening, athaan,” she said. Her voice was soft. Proper. “We’ve brought your milk.”
Summer curtsied. The lehenga rustled. Bangles clinked.
“Good evening,” she said. Then, unable to help herself: “Surprise.”
Selvam looked at them. His chest rose and fell. Slow. Measured.
He stepped back from the doorway. One step. Two.
“Come in,” he said.
They entered. The bedroom was warm. One lamp lit. The bed was made. Clean sheets. The brass Tamil figurines on the dresser caught the low light.
Vanitha moved first. She approached him with the tumbler held out in both hands. Her eyes stayed down. The dupatta slipped slightly with the movement. The choli’s neckline came into view... low, the silk tight across her breasts, the shadow between them deep and deliberate.
“Please,” she said.
He took the tumbler from her. Their fingers touched. Warm. The milk was sweet. He could smell the cardamom. Vanitha always added cardamom.
He drank. The milk was warm. Sweet. Ceremonial. He handed half sipped tumbler back.
Vanitha bowed her head. The dupatta settled. She took a sip from the same side he had sipped tasting Selvam’s saliva.
Summer approached. She held her tumbler the same way. Both hands. Eyes down. But her feet were uncertain. She’d been watching Vanitha’s steps and counting them in her head. He could see the calculation in the slight pause before each movement.
“Your turn,” she said.
He took the tumbler. Summer’s fingers were warmer. She was flushed under the dupatta. The heat of the lehenga or the effort of the performance, he couldn’t tell.
He drank. The same recipe. Cardamom. Warm. Sweet. He handed the half full tumbler back.
Summer bowed. Too deep. The dupatta slipped entirely off one shoulder. She caught it. Flushed darker. She took a sip to taste Selvam’s half drank milk.
Vanitha pressed her lips together. Hard. Her shoulders shook once. She turned her face away.
Selvam saw it. The laughter she was holding back. The absolute delight in Summer’s earnest, clumsy attempt at Tamil bridal modesty.
He reached for Vanitha’s dupatta first. His fingers found the sheer fabric at her temples. He drew it back slowly. The gold border slid through his hands. Cool silk.
Her face emerged. Dark hair. Kohl-lined eyes bright with suppressed laughter. Her mouth was curved in that particular way... left corner higher than the right. The diamond nose pin caught the light.
He held the dupatta. Looked at her.
“You look like the first night of somebody’s life,” he said.
Then Summer. Her dupatta came away easier. The fabric caught in her hair for a second. He worked it free gently.
Her face. Flushed pink. Hazel eyes wide. She’d bitten her lower lip to keep from laughing. The lipstick was smudged at one corner.
“Beautiful,” he said.
He held both dupattas. One in each hand. The sheer fabric hung between his fingers. Gold borders. Still warm from their skin.
“I don’t deserve either of you,” he said.
“That’s correct,” Vanitha said. “You should stop wasting time.”
Summer laughed. The real one. Loud. Unrestrained. It filled the bedroom and bounced off the walls.
“I practiced that bow for twenty minutes,” she said. “In the studio. With a full lehenga on. Vanitha kept saying ‘lower, lower, your eyes need to see the floor,’ and I kept tripping on the skirt.”
Vanitha was laughing now too. The performance dissolved completely. She reached over and fixed Summer’s hair where the dupatta had tangled it.
“You did well,” Vanitha said. “Very convincing. Very Tamil bride.”
“Was I?” Summer turned to Selvam. “Was I convincing? Be honest.”
He looked at her. The red choli cut low across her chest. The gold waist chain sitting across her bare stomach. Her navel visible. Small. Round.
“Extremely,” he said.
Vanitha took the tumblers from both of them. Set them on the dresser. The silver clinked against the wood.
“So,” she said. “Now that the ceremony is complete.”
She looked at Selvam. Then at the bed. Then back.
Summer’s hand found Vanitha’s. Squeezed once. Their bangles clinked together. Gold on gold.
Selvam held the dupattas. The sheer fabric between his fingers. He set them on the bed. Neat. Flat.
The lamp hummed.
# Scene 2
Selvam reached for Vanitha’s choli hooks.
Front closure. Six small metal clasps running from her sternum to just below her breasts. He’d always appreciated that about her. Practical woman. Front hooks so he could watch her breasts emerge as he worked.
“Thank you for the front hooks,” he said.
Vanitha smiled. “I know what you like.”
He unhooked the first clasp. The choli parted slightly. A line of skin appeared. Warm gold.
Second hook. Third. The choli opened wider. Her breasts pressed against the silk from underneath. The fabric strained.
Summer sat on the edge of the bed. Still in full bridal dress. Her eyes were wide. Watching.
“This is better than the movie,” she said.
Fourth hook. Fifth. The choli fell open. Vanitha’s breasts were there. Full. High. The bra underneath was simple cotton. White.
Selvam reached behind her. Found the bra clasp. One motion. The cotton fell away.
Her breasts settled free. The nipples were already tight. Dark against her gold skin.
He went behind and cupped them from behind. Both hands. Warm weight. His thumbs brushed her nipples. Circles. Slow.
Vanitha leaned back against his chest. Her head found his shoulder. Her eyes closed. The gold waist chain sat across her stomach. The links caught the lamp light with each breath.
Summer set the tumbler on the nightstand. Finally. The silver clinked.
She crossed the room. Stopped behind Selvam. Her hands found the drawstring of Vanitha’s lehenga. The skirt’s waistband was tied in a complicated knot at the small of Vanitha’s back.
“Let me,” Summer said.
Her fingers worked the knot. Careful. Deliberate. The engineering precision she brought to everything.
Vanitha looked over Selvam’s shoulder. Their eyes met.
The look carried everything. The boutique. The app. The Nakamura building. Jenny’s waxing table. Two women lying side by side, legs spread, talking about this man in careful double meanings. The shared architecture of desire they had built together, stone by stone, while he was busy building rockets.
Summer’s mouth curved. Left corner higher than the right. Exactly like Vanitha’s.
The knot came loose. The lehenga’s waistband slackened. The heavy red silk pooled around Vanitha’s ankles. She stepped out of it. Barefoot on the cool floor.
She stood in her jewelry. Gold bangles stacked on both wrists. The heavy necklace against her collarbone. The waist chain across her bare hips. The diamond nose pin. Nothing else.
Summer turned to Selvam. “My turn.”
She presented her back to Vanitha. The choli hooks ran in a line from her shoulder blades to the small of her back. Twelve of them. Small. Metal.
Vanitha’s fingers found the first hook. Unclasped it. The silk parted an inch.
Selvam stood in front of Summer. Watched her face.
Second hook. Another inch of skin appeared. Pale. Fair. The contrast against the red silk was sharp.
Summer’s breathing changed. Shallow. Her eyes held Selvam’s. She didn’t look away.
Third hook. Fourth. The choli opened down her spine. The fair skin came into the light inch by inch. Warm. Flushed.
Fifth. Sixth. The silk fell away from her shoulder blades. The muscles there were defined. She worked out. Regularly. He could see it in the way her back moved.
Seventh. Eighth. The choli hung loose now. Only the hooks at the bottom held it.
Vanitha worked the ninth. Tenth. Her fingers were quick. Practiced.
Eleventh. The choli came completely open. Summer’s breasts were there. Full. Heavy. They settled free as the last hook gave way. The silk slid down her arms. Fell to the floor.
She stood bare from the waist up. Her breasts were fuller than Vanitha’s. Softer. The nipples were pink. Tight. The gold necklace sat between them. Heavy.
Vanitha’s hands went to the lehenga’s drawstring. Same knot. She worked it loose faster than Summer had.
The skirt’s waistband slackened. The heavy red silk pooled around Summer’s ankles. She stepped out of it with one smooth motion. Natural. Easy. The way she moved through everything physical.
She stood beside Vanitha. Both women bare except for their jewelry. Gold against skin. Two different shades of gold. Vanitha’s deeper, Summer’s fairer. The waist chains sat low on their hips. Bangles covered both wrists. Heavy necklaces against collarbones.
Selvam looked at them. The Nakamura penthouse floor. The brass figurines. The long conference table. He was taking inventory. Measuring something he had decided was his.
Summer reached for the dupatta on the bed. The sheer fabric with its gold border. She lifted it. Dbangd it over Vanitha’s head. The fabric settled. Covered Vanitha’s face. A translucent curtain. Her eyes were visible through it. Dark. Bright.
Vanitha picked up the other dupatta. Covered Summer’s face the same way. The sheer fabric caught in Summer’s dark-blonde hair. Settled.
Now they were both fully naked except for the dupattas covering their faces and the gold waist chains across their hips. Jewelry everywhere. Bangles. Necklaces. The diamond nose pin on Vanitha.
They knelt.
Both women went down on their knees in front of him. The movement was synchronized. Their hands came forward. They touched his feet. Light. Ceremonial.
Vanitha spoke first. Her voice came through the dupatta. Soft. Proper.
“Please give us your blessings, mama.”
Summer followed. Her hands on his feet. She looked up through the sheer fabric. Her hazel eyes found his.
“Please give us your... um...” She stumbled. Bit her lip. “Blessings. Athaan.”
She laughed. The real one. Bright. Unrestrained. The dupatta shook with it.
Vanitha laughed too. The sound muffled behind the fabric.
Selvam looked down at them. Two women on their knees. Naked except for gold. Faces covered like brides. Touching his feet with the absolute certainty of women who had built this moment together from nothing.
He put his hand on Vanitha’s head first. The dupatta was warm under his palm, the fabric thin enough that he felt the heat of her scalp through it.
“Nalla iru, ma.”
He moved his hand to Summer’s head. Her hair was thicker. The sheer silk slid over it and caught.
“You too.”
“That’s it?” Summer’s voice came through the fabric. “That’s the whole blessing?”
“That’s the whole blessing.”
“It’s very short.”
“It’s very old,” Vanitha said. “Short and old. Don’t argue with it.”
His pajama drawstring was already loose from the shower. Vanitha’s hands found it without looking. She pulled the knot free and the cotton went down his thighs and pooled at his ankles, and he stepped out of it, and his cock came out hard and already leaking at the tip.
Summer made a sound behind the dupatta.
“Every single time,” she said.
“Every single time,” Vanitha agreed.
“It’s not physically reasonable.”
“Tell him. He doesn’t believe me either.”
He looked down at the two covered faces. He could see the shape of their mouths behind the sheer fabric. Vanitha’s parted. Summer’s still curved with the last of the laugh.
“Vanitha,” he said.
“Mama.”
“Show her.”
Vanitha lifted the dupatta only to the bridge of her nose. Not off. Folded back to the level of her upper lip, so the gold border sat across her cheekbones and her eyes stayed behind the silk and her mouth came free into the lamp light.
“Like this,” she said to Summer. “You keep the veil. You don’t get to see anything. That’s the point.”
“Then how do I... ”
“You feel for it.”
Vanitha took him in her hand. Her fingers were cool from the silver tumbler. She held the base and drew the foreskin back with her thumb and put her mouth on the head.
His breath went out of him. She took him slow, an inch, two, her tongue flat under the ridge, and then she sank down and he felt the back of her throat and stayed there while she held it. The dupatta hung against his stomach. The gold border scratched.
She came off wet. A thread broke between her lip and the head.
“Your turn.”
Summer folded her own dupatta up to her nose. Her mouth came out from under it. Her lipstick was still smudged at the corner.
“Do I... ” She reached. Missed. Found his thigh instead. “Okay. Guide me. Someone guide me.”
Vanitha took Summer’s wrist and put her hand on him.
“Oh.” Summer’s fingers closed. “Oh, God, it’s so hot. Why is it so hot.”
“Blood,” Selvam said.
“Thank you, doctor.” She stroked once, up and down, and her thumb found the wet at the tip and slid over it. “You’re leaking on me.”
“I know.”
“Is that a compliment or a medical event.”
“Summer.”
“Yes. Sorry. Working.”
She leaned in and put her mouth on him. She took the head and sucked, hard, immediately, the way she did everything ... full commitment, no calibration. Her tongue pushed flat against the underside and the pressure of it went up his spine and closed his hands.
He put his hand on the back of her head. The dupatta shifted under his fingers.
“Slower.”
She slowed. She went further, took him deeper, her lips stretched around the shaft, and he heard her breathe wrong through her nose and pull back coughing.
“Nope.”
“Breathe through your nose on the way down,” Vanitha said. “Not on the way up.”
“That is the opposite of intuitive.”
“It’s the opposite of a lot of things.”
Summer went back down. She got it right this time. He felt her throat work once around him before she came off, and she stayed there, panting, her mouth open under the gold border.
“Did that count?”
“That counted,” he said.
Vanitha’s mouth was already on him again. She took him deep and held and pulled back and licked him from base to head in one slow drag. Then she turned her face and Summer’s mouth was there, and they were both on him, Vanitha on the shaft, Summer at the head, and the two dupattas hung side by side against his stomach so that all he could see below his own chest was gold border and sheer red silk and two mouths working him at the same time.
Their eyes.
That was the thing he had not expected. Through the sheer red silk he could still see both sets, lifted, fixed on his face while their mouths were busy. Vanitha’s kohl-dark and steady, unhurried, watching what each stroke did to his jaw. Summer’s wider, hazel gone to brown in the lamp light, blinking up at him with a kind of open triumph, as if she wanted credit for every sound he made.
Covered faces. Uncovered eyes. Two brides looking up at him from behind the veil while they sucked him.
He made a sound he did not plan.
“There it is,” Summer said. She said it around him. The words came out wrecked.
“Don’t talk.”
“You like it when I talk.”
“Not tonight.”
Vanitha pushed Summer’s head aside with her own. Not gently. Shoulder to shoulder, a small hard press, and she took the head into her mouth and closed her lips just behind the ridge and sucked.
“Hey... ”
“Wait your turn.”
“I was there.”
“You were talking.”
Summer went for the base instead. She got her mouth on the underside of his shaft where Vanitha’s fingers weren’t and dragged her tongue up the vein, and Vanitha’s rhythm broke, and Selvam’s hand tightened in Summer’s hair before he decided to do it.
“Ha,” Summer said.
“Chi,” Vanitha said.
They fought for it. That was the only word for it. Vanitha would take him deep and hold and Summer’s mouth would arrive at the base and work upward until Vanitha had to come off to make room, and then Summer would go down and get three good strokes in before Vanitha’s hand pulled him out of her mouth by the root and put him in her own. Wet sounds. Bangles. The gold borders of both dupattas dragging across his hips and thighs, scratching, catching on the hair.
His hands moved between two covered heads. He could not decide where to hold. He held both.
“Slower,” he said.
Neither of them slowed.
“Both of you.”
“He’s giving instructions,” Summer said.
“He always gives instructions.”
“Does it work?”
“Sometimes.” Vanitha licked him from base to head. “Not now.”
Summer laughed and the laugh went into his skin and then her mouth closed over the head again and she sucked hard, hollowing, and her eyes came up through the silk and stayed on his while she did it. She knew what she was doing. She had known for months. She had done this on a bed in Los Gatos with her hair in his fist and she had done it in the back of the Aston in a parking garage in SoMa and she was doing it now with her face veiled like a woman on the first night of her marriage, and the two things sitting on top of each other in the same body was doing something to him he could not get in front of.
“Summer.”
She hummed.
“Look at me.”
She was already looking at him. She raised her eyebrows behind the silk. As if to say, I have been, keep up.
Vanitha’s hand found his balls. Cupped. The bangles slid down her forearm and clicked against each other and settled cool against his thigh.
“He’s close,” she said.
“He knows,” he said.
He got his hand into her hair and pulled her back an inch. Vanitha’s mouth came off him wet. Summer’s stayed on the head one second too long and he pulled her off too, and both faces were there under him, tipped up, veils folded to the nose, mouths open, eyes on his through the silk.
“Where,” Vanitha said.
“You know where.”
“Say it.”
“On you.”
Summer’s mouth curved. “Both of us.”
“Both of you.”
“Then hold still,” Vanitha said, “and let us... ”
He came.
The first pulse went out of him harder than he had planned for. It struck across both of them in one line ... the sheer red silk over Vanitha’s left cheek first, a fat streak soaking dark into the fabric and running down through the gold border, then across the bridge of the gap where her veil ended and her mouth began, and on, catching the corner of Summer’s lower lip and the pale skin under it. One streak. Two faces.
“Oh... ” Summer said, and it went into her open mouth on the second pulse.
His hips moved without his permission. The second came thick and hit her across the tongue and the third went high, over her, and landed on Vanitha’s forehead through the silk, and he felt the veil go heavy with it under his hand. The fourth caught Vanitha’s chin and hung there. The fifth was for the mouth she opened for it.
“Keep going,” Vanitha said. Her voice came out ruined. “Mama. All of it.”
“Fuck,” he said.
He kept going. The sixth was thinner and ran down his own knuckles where he was holding himself, and the seventh went onto Summer’s cheek and slid, and there were two or three after that he did not count, small, wrung out, dripping off the head onto the gold necklace between Summer’s breasts.
Nobody moved. The lamp hummed. Both of them were breathing through their mouths and he could hear it, wet, and one of the bangles on Vanitha’s wrist ticked against another as her hand shook on his thigh.
“Don’t wipe it,” he said.
“I wasn’t going to,” Vanitha said.
“She was.”
“I was not.” Summer’s tongue came out and took what was on her lower lip. She swallowed it and made a face and then didn’t. “Okay. Okay. That’s ... okay.”
“Good?”
“Don’t ask me questions right now.”
Vanitha leaned in first. She put her mouth on the head and cleaned him with her tongue, slow, under the ridge, into the slit, the way she did it, and he had to put a hand on her shoulder to stay standing.
“Sensitive,” he said.
“I know.” She kept going.
Summer went for his knuckles. She took his hand off himself and turned it and licked the back of it, between the fingers, and then sucked his thumb into her mouth and looked up at him while she did it, and there was a thread of him still hanging off her chin the whole time.
“Hers is dripping,” Summer said around the thumb.
Vanitha came off him. “Where.”
“Your chin. It’s about to fall on the floor.”
“Get it then.”
Summer got it. She leaned across and took Vanitha’s chin in her fingers and licked up the length of it, up onto the edge of the wet silk, and Vanitha turned her face to give her the angle and made a small sound behind the veil.
Vanitha put two fingers to her own cheek, scbangd through the wet on the silk, and put them in Summer’s mouth.
“Fine,” she said. “Share.”
Summer closed her lips around them and sucked. Slowly. Her eyes stayed on Selvam’s the whole time.
“You two are going to kill me,” he said.
“Not yet,” Vanitha said. She found the last of it at the corner of her own mouth with her thumb and pushed it in and swallowed. “Later. After the milk.”
Vanitha lowered her head. Both hands came forward and touched his feet again, the wet silk swinging away from her face as she bent, and the gold border dragged a cold damp line across his shin.
“Thank you for the blessings, mama.”
Summer went down beside her. Faster. Less graceful. Her palms landed flat on his feet and stayed there.
“Thank you for the blessings,” she said. “Athaan. Did I say it right that time?”
“You said it right.”
“I’ve been practicing that word all day. In the shower. Out loud.

Out loud.
