Adultery Dad's Enemy Made My Mom Heartless (COMPLETED!!)
#15
She seemed to sense the shift in the air. Her shoulders tensed slightly, and she looked away, focusing on the water bottle as though it held answers. “I’m going to change,” she said quietly. “You should too.”

I watched her walk toward her bedroom, the emerald saree swishing unevenly around her legs, the black lace bra still visible beneath the loosened blouse. The faded lipstick on her lips caught the light one last time before she disappeared through the doorway, and I was left standing in the kitchen with the faint scent of another man’s cologne lingering in the air and a small, stubborn knot of resentment beginning to tighten in my chest.

The apartment settled back into silence, but it was no longer the comfortable quiet of routine. It was the silence of things unsaid, of details noticed and filed away, of a mother who had come home three hours late . I stood there for a long time, the taste of that first, bitter grudge sharp on my tongue, wondering if more nights like this would pass before the truth became impossible to ignore.

I told myself it could have been anything. A client dinner that ran late, a crowded local train where someone’s shoulder pressed too close, an allergic reaction to a new foundation that left her skin irritated. The unfamiliar cologne might have been from a male colleague who had leaned in to show her a file; the rumpled saree could have been the result of sitting for hours in a stuffy conference room. People got marks on their skin all the time—scratches from jewelry, accidental brushes against furniture, even the faint impressions left by a tight blouse hook. I had no proof of anything else, only the uneasy feeling that something about last night refused to line up.

In reality i was just trying to believe what i wanted to at that moment.
