Fantasy Devika, a rich high class housewife, with angel heart
Devika pressed her thumbnail harder into her finger. The coolness of the sanctum stone beneath her feet. The flicker of the brass lamp throwing shadows across Rajendran's angular face. His words still hanging in the air like camphor smoke—all of them came with doubt, all of them left with peace.

"No."

The word came out sharper than she intended. It cut through the incense-thick silence of the inner sanctum like a steel blade on banana leaf.

Rajendran's expression didn't change. Not visibly. But something behind his eyes shifted—a light dimming, a door closing halfway.

"No, uncle. I don't want any ritual. I came to pray, that's all."

She folded her hands toward the deity one final time. Turned. Walked out.

Her rubber slippers were hot from the stone floor outside. She slid them on without stopping, without looking back, without giving him the chance to say another word. The temple courtyard blazed white in the afternoon sun. She crossed it fast, pallu gripped tight against her chest, head down.

Rajendran stood at the sanctum entrance and watched her leave.

Her yellow saree caught the sunlight as she walked—the cotton thin enough to show the shadow of her blouse hooks through the fabric at her back. The pallu had shifted during her quick turn, and a strip of skin showed above her petticoat: the soft fold of her waist, where pale flesh creased into two gentle rolls just above the hip. Her walk was hurried but her body couldn't hide its rhythm—the natural pendulum of her hips, the small bounce of flesh beneath fabric that no amount of modesty could suppress.

He gripped the brass plate until his knuckles whitened.

So close. She asked about the ritual. She asked. Almost came on her own. Almost walked into my hands like a bird into a cage with the door wide open.

His jaw tightened. The marigold garland in his other hand crushed under his fingers, petals falling to the stone floor in orange fragments.

Patience. She is not ready yet. The seed is planted. Water it slowly.

But patience felt like swallowing broken glass. His cock was half-hard against his thigh, trapped under the dhoti, thickening with each replay of her waist folds disappearing around the temple gate.

He turned back to the deity. Folded his hands. Murmured a prayer.

His lips moved in Sanskrit. His mind moved in filth.

Saturday afternoon. Saradha's flat.

The two women sat cross-legged on the bedroom floor, sorting through a pile of sarees Saradha had pulled from her steel almirah for some cousin's wedding. A floor fan rotated between them, pushing warm air from one sweating body to the other.

"That Rajendran is disgusting, Saradha akka." Devika picked up a magenta silk and ran it through her fingers without seeing it. "Every time I go to temple, his eyes are all over me. Like he's not looking at a person—like he's reading a menu card."

Saradha folded a green pattu saree into neat rectangles. "Menu card-nu sollura? Which item he's ordering from you?"

"Don't joke. I'm serious. Yesterday he was talking about some purification ritual—pancha kosha, energy realignment, all that. But the way he was saying it..." She trailed off. Shook her head. "Creepy. Just creepy."

"Aiyyo, that old fox. He tried the same pancha kosha story with Janaki from third floor two years back. She told her husband and that was the end of it."

"See? He does this with everyone."

"Not everyone. Only the pretty ones." Saradha glanced at her with a sideways smile. "He has taste, I'll give him that."

Devika ignored this. Picked up another saree. Put it down.

"You know what he did once? During Pongal puja—he was giving me prasadam and his hand brushed my waist. Like, fully touched. And afterward I saw him bring his fingers to his nose and—" She made a face. "Smell them."

"Ayyo paavam." Saradha's voice dripped with mock sympathy. "The man is starving, Devika. Widower for twelve years. No wife, no woman, nothing. Just that small dark room behind the temple and his right hand for company."

"That's not my problem."

"No, no, it's not." Saradha paused. A strange expression crossed her face—something between mischief and confession. "But you know... it's not just his right hand anymore."

Devika looked up. "What do you mean?"

Saradha put down the saree she was folding. Leaned forward. Lowered her voice even though no one else was in the flat.

"Last week. Thursday. I went to return the puja plate after the evening aarthi. His door was half open. I heard sounds. So naturally I looked."

"Saradha—"

"He was with that cleaning maid. Kamala. The one with the limp. He had her bent over his cot and he was—" She made a crude gesture with her hands. "Going at it. Full speed. Like a man half his age."

Devika's face tightened. "I don't want to hear this."

"The woman is what—fifty-five? Sixty? Grey hair, missing teeth, that bad knee. And he was on her like she was Nayanthara." Saradha wrinkled her nose. "I mean, if you're going to sin, at least sin with someone worth looking at, no?"

"Saradha, please—"

"I'm just saying. That Kamala looks like she fought a war and lost. Saggy everything. And still he didn't leave her for twenty minutes. Twenty minutes, Devika. I checked the time on my phone."

"Why were you watching for twenty minutes?!"

"Not full twenty. I left after ten." She grinned without shame. "But I recorded a little bit before leaving."

"You WHAT?"

"Shh! My husband is sleeping in the next room." Saradha waved her hand dismissively. "Just a short video. Thirty seconds maybe."

Devika stared at her. The magenta silk saree lay forgotten in her lap. She opened her mouth. Closed it. Opened it again.

"Saradha akka, you are a married woman. With a husband sleeping ten feet away. And you're recording old men having sex and keeping it on your phone?"

"So? I'm not having sex with them, am I? Just watching. What's wrong with watching?"

"Everything is wrong with watching!"

Saradha leaned back against the almirah. Her expression shifted—the mischief settling into something more honest. More tired.

"Devika, after fifteen years of marriage and two kids, you get bored with one man. Same body. Same moves. Same three minutes and then snoring." She picked lint off her nightgown. "Is it wrong to see something different once in a while? I'm not sleeping with anyone. I'm not even talking to anyone. Just... looking. That's all."

Devika said nothing. Her throat was tight.

I already slept with Kulkarni. I already crossed the line you're tiptoeing around. You watch from doorways. I lay underneath.

"Anyway." Saradha's voice brightened again, steering back to gossip like a auto-rickshaw taking a sharp turn. "The point is—that man has stamina. Real stamina. And you know what I kept thinking while watching? I kept thinking—if he ever got his hands on you, Devika, that man would not let you go for the whole day."

Heat crept up Devika's neck. Fast. Violent. A flush that started at her collarbone and climbed to her cheeks.

"Akka, stop it."

"I'm serious! The way he looks at you—it's not casual looking. It's planning. He's already decided what he'll do. In his mind, he's already done it a hundred times."

"I said STOP."

But the flush was spreading. Her ears burned. She looked down at the saree in her lap, pretending to examine the border work, but her fingers were trembling and the fabric shook with them.

Saradha noticed.

"Aiyyo... Devika." A slow, delighted grin spread across her face. "Are you blushing?"

"No!"

"You ARE. Look at your face! Red like a tomato. I'm talking about that old temple priest and you're blushing like a college girl."

"I am NOT blushing. It's hot in here. Your fan doesn't work properly." Devika stood up. Dropped the saree on the pile. Her voice carried a thin edge of anger—the soft kind, the kind that covers embarrassment like a bedsheet thrown over a stain. "You're talking nonsense and I don't want to hear it."

"Okay, okay, sit down. I'll stop." Saradha held up both hands. The grin didn't fade. "But listen—that video I recorded. If you want, I can send it to you. Just for... educational purposes."

"Absolutely not."

"Just once, Devika. Watch it once. You'll understand what I mean about his stamina. That man's body—for sixty-eight years old—I'm telling you, his—"

"NO." Devika's breathing quickened. The word came out hard, final, her chest rising and falling against the pallu. "Delete that video. It's wrong to keep it. It's wrong to watch it. And it's wrong to talk about it."

Saradha shrugged. Picked up her phone from the bed. Tapped the screen a few times.

Devika's phone buzzed in her hand. WhatsApp notification.

"I sent it," Saradha said, casual as forwarding a recipe. "Your choice. Watch it or delete it. No pressure."

Devika looked down at her phone. The video file sat in their chat—a grey rectangle with a play button. Thirty-one seconds. Thumbnail too small to make out details, just shapes in dim light.

Her thumb hovered over it. One second. Two.

She opened the chat. Long-pressed the video. Hit delete.

The file disappeared.

Saradha watched her without expression. Then smiled. "Good girl."

"I'm leaving." Devika picked up her phone, tucked it into her saree waist, and walked to the door. Her jaw was tight, her shoulders rigid, her slippers making sharp sounds on the tile floor.

"Devika—"

"Bye, akka."

The door closed behind her.

She didn't go to temple after that.

Not Sunday. Not Monday. Not even Tuesday when the building aunties organized a group visit for Pradosham.

"Headache," she told them. "Periods," she told Arjun when he asked why she wasn't doing her usual evening puja. Small lies. Convenient lies. The kind that married women keep in their pallu like spare change—always ready, always sufficient, never questioned.

The real reason sat in her chest like a stone she couldn't cough up.

She was afraid of Rajendran. But not afraid the way she used to be—not the skin-crawling, instinctive revulsion that made her cross the corridor to avoid him.

This was different.

She was afraid she might say yes.
