Misc. Erotica ...And My Mother doesn't Remain Ours (completed)
The exams were over, but my mind was completely messed up.

Nothing at home was going well anymore.

Rambo and Mummy met up whenever they got the chance. His afternoon visits became a daily routine. Whenever Papa went out of town for work, Mummy even invited him over at night, and they would be together in the backyard, near the shrubs, or sometimes right in the bathroom.

Mummy stopped paying attention to Papa and me like she used to. In fact, she started picking fights with Papa, which began to worry him. Even though Papa tried to avoid arguments by ignoring her mood swings, money started disappearing from his pockets.

Mummy never confessed, but I knew she was secretly giving that money to Rambo. Rambo wasn't the ragged beggar he used to be. While he still wandered around looking hopeless and looked equally ugly, he now had clean clothes, groomed hair and beard, and money in his pocket, freeing him from having to work or beg.

Then, one afternoon, I overheard them talking.

“Sajan ji, we are in trouble,” Mummy said. “My husband is getting suspicious, and I can't steal any more money. And on top of that…” She stumbled, sounding shaken. “I don't know how to explain this because I never expected it to happen to me at age forty-two. I missed my period, and when I checked, it confirmed I am pregnant. I don't know what to do.”

This came as a massive shock to me. What if the baby was born? It would completely ruin our family's reputation. I sat quietly by the ghat, turning it over in my mind. Aditya was with me that day and asked why I looked so worried, but I didn't say a single word. How could I ever admit to him that my mother was involved with a dirty beggar?

When I got home late that evening, Mummy wasn't there. We searched for her for the next two days, but there was no trace of her. Papa seemed to have figured something out, though; I overheard him whispering to someone on the phone that some cash and jewelry were missing from the house, too.

By that point, I was certain Mummy had eloped with Rambo to start a life somewhere else. They were expecting a baby, and chances were we would never see her again. Looking back, a question kept haunting me: why did she do this to me? I understood how poorly Papa treated her all those years, the injustice Jiju caused, and how cold and unempathetic Di had been when Jiju was the real culprit.

Yet, I hadn't done anything wrong. I tried to stand by her side... or did I? When I really thought about it, I realized I hadn't actually helped. I just expected someone else to fix things while I sat back and helplessly watched it all unfold without stepping in. Was this the price I had to pay?

----

(Two Years Later…)

I was at the gynecologist with Di. She had been consulting this particular lady doctor for the last six months. Di and Jiju had been trying to have a baby for the past two years, but they were facing problems conceiving.

Jiju, who genuinely loved Di, was always stressed about not having a child. That day, Jiju was busy, so he asked me to accompany Di to the clinic. I was studying at a college in their city, so I rode her there on my bike.

The doctor was well-known and practiced at a government hospital in addition to her private clinic. I learned from the staff that the doctor had something important to discuss with us, but she was still at the government hospital. I didn't tell Di because I had a bad feeling the news wouldn't be good. Instead, I asked Di to wait at the private clinic and went to the government hospital by myself.

I waited outside the doctor's cabin while she finished her consultations. I heard her telling the couple inside that they should consider a permanent family planning procedure, explaining that it was too risky to try for a pregnancy so late in life. Out of curiosity, I peeked inside - and to my absolute shock, Rambo and Mummy were sitting there. Mummy was holding a one-year-something-old child in her lap, and they were discussing family planning.
I was completely dumbfounded and hid outside.

As Mummy and Rambo left the hospital, I watched them through the window. Rambo was confidently riding a bike, with Mummy sitting beside him holding their child, her hand resting lovingly on his shoulder for support. To the outside world, they looked like a happy, innocent couple. Little did anyone know they had built that happiness by destroying so many lives.
Soon after, the receptionist called me in to see the doctor.

I forced myself to hold back my emotions and walked inside. The doctor looked at me with sympathy and told me that Di would never be able to become a mother.

I left the clinic wondering if this was just Di and Jiju's fate, or if it was the price they were paying for what they had done to Mummy. Just like what papa and I had paid.
