Layered and complex Tara had me thinking about her yesterday, My conclusion or assumption on what's driving Tara to design this experiment could be two factors, primary trigger definitely are Meera and Arjun, there is a reason that chapter started everything....I do not know how Jeeva felt about Arjun but Tara could have been shattered looking at Meera and she says in the car....how small she looked after knowing her for years, what does that mean...that means that the high regard she kept for Meera all the time now is lost and she looked some one who has fallen from grace.
..esp the couple were together for 15 years. So I think that a woman who could slip after a long marriage that too with first love from college and if she could still cheat her husband, that might have got her thinking where does she stand in her marriage...
Theory 1:
If Tara's real fear could this happen to us without warning, Could she one day cheat my husband and shatter everything that we built all 7 years, She wanted to test her love rather than prove Jeeva's love for her, though outside she kept saying its to test our marriage, this could be test for her own control, hence the experiment designing a fully controlled, rule-bound version of that same danger that made Meera cheat. In the process she designed the experiment choosing the partner herself, setting the boundaries, trying to keep herself always one step ahead in a way to make sure she's never blindsided the way Meera was. Her hidden goal in that reading isn't romantic or sexual at all, it's about control: proving to herself she can walk right up to the edge of that scenario and still be the one steering it, rather than the one who falls for some one eventually and break everything.
Theory 2:
She and Jeeva married as strangers at young age as an arranged marriage with prior no love experience, with no prior relationships to compare against. That's a real gap in her experience that a purely happy marriage doesn't fill, she has never actually tested whether what she feels for Jeeva is love earned through comparison or feelings that were validated organically or love by default because in an arrangement of marriage, love comes by default as you are bound to spend time with her husband and unless there are major red flags, habitability, comfort and love comes by default..
An experiment engineered to bring a genuinely tempting man close enough to create a real choice would answer that question in a way seven quiet and comfortable years never could.
It's actually about her own certainty, using Jeeva's jealousy as a side effect, not the target.
So two things 1. Certainty on her marriage 2. Protecting herself from ever being blindsided by lust.
In the process of experiment, she doesn't want to lose her marriage hence she kept the clause that if ever one of us slips and has sex with the partner, they come back to each other and still resolve the issue to be able to love each other as they have been doing all these 7 years.
Some of the supportive dialogues that come close to my theory 1....
1. Jeeva says, "I still don't think she cheated," Tara doesn't validate Meera so easily as Jeeva, Instead she says.."What if he was right, though? What if she really did sleep with that senior?" and "Maybe she still has feelings. People make mistakes," and "How does love get tested just because she became friends with someone?"
2. Radio line: "it will only be tested if someone comes between"
3. "What if some woman at your office started liking you? Really liking you... What if she made it obvious?" She has same fear as Arjun
Some of the supportive dialogues that come close to my theory 2....
1. "We've been together for seven years. No fights. No jealousy. Nothing. Sometimes I wonder if that's normal… or if we're not close enough to get angry? Disappointment? Sometimes too perfect is also alarmingly told that something is not so natural."
2. "Yes, We started everything imperfect, i don't know how we stay happy, unbothered, not even fighting, are we missing something."
3. "It's strange. Fifteen years. And it can still fall apart because of one third person," and then, "Sometimes one person is more than enough."
One thing Tara is forgetting if the above theories are right, is things on paper and in real life are not same...once you slip, things will never be the same...also all the situations, temptations cannot be under her control all the time...human emotions are diverse and change situational but some times even though intent is there not to sleep, fate will create scenarios that will make her or Jeeva to slip...once they slip, they both are new to the emotions that will come later at that point, the love they feel for each other now can it withstand the storm?
People like Tara who've never actually been tested tend to underestimate risk specifically because they've never seen the downside of such an experiment up close, Instead of framing Arjun and Meera's downfall as a lesson to learn from, She is set hellbent on testing it on her life to see if she is same as Meera. The blind spot and big mistake here is Tara using someone else's disaster as proof that she can do it more safely, rather than take Arjun/Meera's life as evidence and not to do it at all.
