Adultery Komolini's Second Spring
#74
Chapter 10

Probal stared at the document, his face draining of color.

"Impossible..." he whispered, the single word barely escaping his lips.

Beside him, Komolini gently placed a trembling hand on his shoulder. Her voice was almost inaudible, a soft murmur meant only for him.

"It is for your release."

He turned toward her in disbelief.

"If you don't do it," she continued, struggling to keep her composure, "Ganpat can do anything."

As she spoke, her eyes involuntarily drifted toward Ganpat's imposing, wrestler-like frame. His broad shoulders and unwavering stance radiated intimidating confidence. A strange shiver passed through her—not born solely of fear, but of the unsettling realization of just how overwhelming his presence was. Ashamed of the thought, she quickly looked away.

Probal suddenly struck his own forehead in frustration.

Ganpat stepped forward with measured calm, his deep voice filling the silence.

"This is your only chance to be free. Refuse... and within two days, your fate will be sealed."

Probal clenched his jaw, ready to protest.

Before he could speak, Komolini rushed forward, joining her hands in desperate supplication.

"No... please..." Her eyes filled with tears. "My husband will sign it."

"Komo...?" Probal looked at her in stunned disbelief.

She met his gaze, her whisper trembling.

"Please."

For a long moment, the room remained silent.

Ganpat watched the exchange with quiet satisfaction, saying nothing.

Finally, Probal reached for the pen.

His fingers shook uncontrollably as he lowered the nib onto the paper. Every stroke felt heavier than the last. His pride urged him to throw the document away—but another thought overwhelmed everything else.

If he refused... what would become of Komolini?

What would become of their son?

Closing his eyes for a brief moment, he swallowed his anguish and, with a final trembling signature, surrendered to the only choice he believed would keep his family alive.

The moment Probal finished signing, an uneasy silence settled over the room.

For an instant, the edges of his vision seemed to dim. Whether it was exhaustion, dread, or the crushing weight of what he had just agreed to, he could no longer tell.

Ganpat picked up the document and studied the signature with deliberate satisfaction. After a brief nod, he folded it carefully.

Then, without asking permission, he stepped beside Komolini and rested a firm hand on her shoulder.

She stiffened.

The simple gesture carried an unmistakable message. For the duration of the agreement, he intended to exercise complete authority over the situation.

Probal's restraint snapped.

"Take your hand off her!"

Ganpat slowly turned toward him, unruffled.

"Quiet, idiot."

His voice was calm, almost conversational.

"For today, she is my wife... my baiko."

The Marathi word struck the room with startling force.

Komolini felt her breath catch. Hearing it spoken with such certainty made the reality of the arrangement feel painfully immediate. Her stomach tightened into a knot—not from admiration, but from the shock of realizing how completely circumstances had shifted beyond her control.

She looked quickly at Probal.

His fists were clenched, his face burning with helpless anger.

Meeting his eyes, she gave the smallest shake of her head, silently pleading with him not to provoke another confrontation.

For a long, agonizing moment, neither husband nor wife spoke.

Ganpat simply watched them, fully aware that the silence itself carried more weight than any further words.

"So! You are officially my servant now!" Ganpat raised his eyebrow putting Probal in absolute discomfort. He clenched his fist but just then....

THWAK!

More than the sound it was the visual that made Komolini shiver the most.

Ganpat had put forth his shoe clad foot on the chair and then he whistled in a deliberate disrespectful manner towards Probal who raised his eyes watching the sole tap on the chair seat.

Tap

Tap

"Common! Make it quick!"

Ganpat passed an eye towards Komolini right at that moment and passed a devilish smirk.

Komolini held her breath deep as she saw her husband submit like never before. In the pursuit of release, his feet walked all the way towards Ganpat as he kept tapping his shoe. Not being able to share even a single glimpse with his wife, he sighed once and straightaway got down on his knees and began wiping the shoe.

Komolini felt as if a thunder rushed inside her and with a deep gasp, she couldn't take the sight anymore and she rushed out without a word from her lips. However the last words she heard from Ganpat's sinister tone were....

"Ah that's like a loyal servant! Wait till we groom you for being my wedding helper!"

The words sent an unknown stirr inside Komolini as she left the threshold and took a cab right away towards Pimpri.

.............

Moments later

The late morning breeze drifted across the balcony, carrying with it the familiar sounds of Pimpri waking into another day. Rupu leaned comfortably against the railing, a steaming ceramic mug nestled between her palms. Beside her, Komolini sat unusually quiet, absent-mindedly tracing the rim of her coffee cup, her brows knitted together in thought. Hiyan was busy preparing for his college assignment and totally oblivious of the fact that his mother returned and that too with a burdened mind.

Rupu took a leisurely sip before grinning sideways.

"Polygamy isn't such a big deal, Komo-di."

Komolini shot her an incredulous look but didn't argue. Instead, she let out a slow sigh, her lips pursing into a reluctant pout.

"I still can't get that image out of my head," she muttered. "Probal... cleaning Inspector Gawande's shoes." She shook her head, equal parts disturbed and bewildered. "It was awful... and yet he just... bent down so easily. As if submission came naturally to him."

She lifted her cup again, taking another thoughtful sip.

Rupu's smile widened into one of those unmistakably mischievous expressions that usually meant trouble.

"Some men simply have that in them," she said with an amused shrug. "They don't need to be forced. They just... fold."

She paused deliberately, enjoying the effect her words had before taking another sip herself.

"I almost wish I'd been there to see it," she added with a teasing chuckle. "Ganpat may not be anyone's idea of a gentleman, but you can't deny it—his presence fills a room. Between his rank, his confidence, and the way he carries himself... people naturally seem to fall in line around him."

Komolini stared into her coffee, saying nothing.

The breeze toyed with a loose strand of her hair as a reluctant smile threatened the corners of her lips.

"You enjoy saying things that make me uncomfortable, don't you?"

Rupu only laughed, lifting her mug in a mock toast.

"Only because your reactions are priceless, Komo-di."

Rupu let the silence linger between them, punctuated only by the distant hum of traffic below and the clink of porcelain against the glass-top table.

She cradled her coffee, a mischievous smile playing on her lips.

"That moment must have been something else, Komo-di."

Komolini looked away.

"What exactly did you feel?" Rupu continued, her voice light, almost playful. "Was it the inspector's sheer confidence? The way he walked in as though the room already belonged to him? Sometimes people have a presence that's... unsettling."

She tilted her head, studying her sister-in-law with a knowing grin.

"I still remember Probal-da. He never carried himself quite like that."

Komolini's fingers tightened around her cup.

A faint tremor ran through her hand, forcing her to set the coffee back onto the table before it slipped from her grasp. She looked at Rupu with wide, almost pleading eyes.

"You really shouldn't tease me like this."

Her voice came out softer than she intended.

"My resolve began to crumble the day I signed the divorce papers." She let out a slow breath. "And then... there was that dreadful agreement he signed afterward."

Rupu straightened immediately, curiosity replacing her teasing smile.

"The agreement?"

Komolini gave a hesitant nod.

"It... required Probal to act as..." She swallowed, struggling to say the words aloud.

"As what?"

Komolini closed her eyes for a brief moment before answering in a near whisper.

"...a special servant during the wedding."

The breeze swept across the balcony once more, carrying away the last of her words.

For the first time that morning, even Rupu's playful smile faded into thoughtful silence.

Rupu let out a quiet sigh as she gazed over the Pimpri skyline before shaking her head with a faint smile.

"Thank goodness Hiyan wasn't there."

Komolini looked up.

"He didn't have to watch his father kneel before another man." Rupu stirred her coffee absent-mindedly. "Children remember moments like that far longer than we think."

Komolini nodded silently.

"And that inspector..." she murmured before catching herself. "He looked so... imposing. Those first two buttons of his shirt were left open and..." She stopped abruptly, her eyes widening as a hand flew to her mouth.

"Oh..."

A smile slowly spread across Rupu's face.

She leaned in until her lips were only inches from Komolini's ear and whispered with unmistakable mischief,

"So, Komo-di... you noticed the tuft of hair on his chest more than your poor, defeated husband... hmm?"

Komolini froze.

A flush climbed rapidly from her neck to her cheeks.

"Rupu!"

Her protest came out barely above a whisper.

"You are impossible."

She lowered her gaze at once, biting her lower lip as embarrassment and guilt wrestled across her face. Her fingers found the warm coffee mug again, clinging to it as though it might steady the whirlwind of thoughts she was trying so desperately to hide.

Rupu only chuckled, utterly pleased with herself.

"I was only observing," she said innocently, raising both hands in surrender. "Your eyes answered the question before your words ever could."

Komolini buried her face behind her cup, hoping the rising steam would conceal the crimson blush that refused to leave her cheeks.

The memory of his earthy brown complexion pierced her resolve like a well-aimed spear, unsettling convictions she had always believed unshakable. Even the faint tuft of hair visible beneath the open collar of his khaki shirt had left her inexplicably mesmerized, hinting at the powerful physique concealed beneath the crisp fabric and the muscles bulging within the sleeves. She could still recall how close his mustached lips had come to her own as he stood his ground, refusing to release her husband. Somewhere between indignation and fascination, a forbidden thrill had quietly bloomed within her. Instead of pulling away, she found herself lingering in that charged silence, painfully aware of the nearness between them, her heart betraying her with every stolen heartbeat.

Oh, how commanding he had been, she remembered. A single firm sentence from him had been enough to reduce Probal to a trembling shadow of himself. She could still feel the uneven rhythm of her husband's defeated breaths as he stood powerless before that unyielding presence. His hands had quivered uncontrollably while signing the divorce papers, and the disbelief on his face had been almost unbearable when he realized his punishment—to serve both his former wife and the very man who had broken his pride, with the unquestioning obedience of a loyal household servant.

Rupu watched the flicker of emotions cross Komolini's face before a mischievous smile tugged at her lips.

"We still have to figure out Hiyan's reaction to Ganpat's proposal," she said with a playful sigh. "Imagine... accepting another man as his middle-aged mother's partner overnight. Or, as they say..."

She leaned in, lowering her voice.

"Navra."

"Navra?" Komolini echoed softly, the unfamiliar word lingering on her tongue.

Rupu's grin widened.

"It means 'husband.' And that would make you his baiko."

A wave of shivers swept through Komolini.

The word struck her with unexpected force. She remembered the stranger on the train patiently explaining that baiko meant wife. At the time, it had been nothing more than a curious Marathi word. Now, spoken in connection with Ganpat, it carried a weight that unsettled her.
The thought of being addressed that way sent a confusing flutter through her chest, leaving her caught somewhere between embarrassment, disbelief, and a dangerous curiosity she dared not name.

"Hmmm... Komo di," Rupu murmured, her eyes gleaming with mischief. "What if he insisted on a proper Marathi wedding too? The whole ceremony... with Probal da quietly helping the women prepare everything, doing whatever he's told while the rituals go on around you."

The image arrived in Komolini's mind with startling clarity.

Her heartbeat lurched against her chest.

She looked at Rupu with widened eyes, trying to dismiss the thought, yet finding herself unable to. A strange, dangerous curiosity stirred within her despite every instinct urging her to look away.

Rupu caught the fleeting expression and couldn't resist teasing further.

"Oh... that imagination reached you, didn't it?"

Komolini lowered her gaze, her cheeks warming despite herself. She offered no reply.

Her silence was answer enough.

Rupu shifted closer until their shoulders almost touched. She gently placed both her hands over Komolini's, her smile warm—but her eyes sparkled with unmistakable mischief.

"There's something you're hiding from me, Komo-di."

Komolini kept her gaze fixed on the coffee swirling in her cup.

"Nothing."

"Nothing?" Rupu echoed, unconvinced. "I've known you since we were children. Every time you say 'nothing,' it means there's something you're determined not to tell me."

Komolini merely shook her head.

"No."

Rupu sighed theatrically before folding her arms.

"Very well. If you won't tell me..." She paused just long enough to build suspense. "...then you shall permanently donate a few of those gorgeous chiffon sarees of yours to your poor, underprivileged cousin."

Komolini's head snapped up.

"You wouldn't dare!"

"I absolutely would."

"You have an unhealthy obsession with my sarees."

"I prefer to call it appreciation."

Komolini groaned softly. Of all the weapons Rupu possessed, that one was the most effective. She knew exactly how possessive Komolini was about her carefully collected chiffons.

After a long silence, she finally surrendered.

"They..." she began hesitantly, "...they wanted Probal to be... groomed... so that he could help arrange my wedding with Ganpat."

The words sounded just as strange spoken aloud as they had when she'd first read them.

Rupu blinked.

For a heartbeat she simply stared.

Then she covered her mouth, half in disbelief and half to suppress a laugh.

"Oh, my goodness..."

She looked at Komolini with wide, astonished eyes.

"That has to be the most extraordinary proof of devotion to a wife I've ever heard."

Komolini buried her face in her hands with an embarrassed groan.

"Please don't say it like that."

"But how can I not?" Rupu replied, unable to hide her grin. "Every time I think this story can't become any more unbelievable... you tell me another chapter."

Despite herself, Komolini let out a reluctant laugh.

"You are impossible."

"And yet," Rupu said with a triumphant smile, "you always end up telling me everything."

Komolini didn't respond. She sipped her coffee more noisily this time, wondering about that "Grooming" statement.

"What did Ganpat imply??"
