Even Jay says in one of the conversations his uncle visited that losing her is the biggest thing and not humiliation in front of his family or villagers and it doesn't matter much. Infact if you remember clearly he agreed to go to his village only when Nikita says she won't ask for divorce for sometime. Otherwise he has no intention to go to his village.
I have gone through the initial chapters and it actually gives a lot of insight after this journey.
1. After making love to Nikita for the very first time he asks her whether she loves him and she says no but she is greatful and have respect towards him
2. After getting promotion while returning from his village he says they can payoff the loan in 6 years. Nikita says so we have to stay together for 6 more years and he interprets as she losing youth for his sake and his issues and hatches the plan to get her into his company.
3. After the storage room incident, when Nikita slaps him and says he is occupied with Anjali more now a days, he asks whether she is Jealous. She laughs and says no way.
So really her confession to Tarun where she says he never considered her feelings and felt he owned her as an object (from the sex they had after Tarun kissed her first time) came from. To me it appears like she is moving on as she believes she doesn't deserve him and making amends with Tarun like opening up with everything (even the mirror incident) tells me she wants to build her life with Tarun by not repeating the mistakes she made with Jay.
But with the text Mithra sent and Tarun not being open with Nikita for more than a week, not sure where it is leading to.
Now it make sense, thanks for generous explanation... I am carried away with recent episodes..
