Chapter 48: Honest Desires

The afternoon sun filtered through the blinds of Tharun’s spacious cabin as Nikitha quietly closed the door behind her. The room felt heavier now — more intimate, more dangerous.

She had come here with a clear purpose: to test him. After his unannounced visit that morning and the way he had boldly hugged her in front of Jay’s house, doubt had taken root. If he slipped even now, she would rethink everything.

Tharun stood up the moment she entered.

For a brief second, his eyes darkened with unmistakable hunger as they traced her figure. The memory of her in nighty last morning clearly lingered. But he controlled himself. Instead of stepping forward or reaching for her, he gestured calmly toward the chair opposite his desk.

“Nikki… sit,” he said, his voice soft and sincere. “Please.”
She sat down, surprised by his restraint.

Tharun remained behind his desk, giving her clear space. He ran a hand through his hair, exhaling slowly.

“Are you alright?” he asked first, genuine concern in his tone.
“Did you have to handle everything alone while helping Jay?
I hope he’s doing better now.”

Nikitha nodded. “He’s better. I’m just helping his wife… that’s all.”

Tharun nodded, then slowly began.

“I’ve been thinking about what you said on the beach,” he began. “You’re right. I got carried away. Seeing you this morning in your night… in your home… it messed with my head. I’m sorry.”

Nikitha watched him carefully. He wasn’t approaching her. No teasing touches. No attempt to kiss her. He was actually listening.

Tharun continued, his tone honest, “I won’t lie to you — I still want you physically. A lot. But I don’t want you to feel like that’s all I see in you. You told me you want to feel loved, not just desired. So… let’s do this your way. No pressure. No rushing. Tell me what you need right now.”

Nikitha felt a strange mix of relief and unexpected attraction. He was passing her test. For the first time, he wasn’t pushing.

Still, doubt lingered in her mind. Is he just acting patient to win me over and then abandon me later?

She needed to understand him better. To see if he is telling the truth.. When there is love and emotion why does his lust take the centre stage? And why is he openly stating ‘I still want you Physically? She decided to ask!

Nikkitha: Tharun i dont understand this! - “Why is it so physical for you?” she asked boldly, looking straight into his eyes.

Tharun leaned back slightly, a small, almost sad smile appearing on his face.
“I may have some reasons,” he said quietly. “I’ve been in a relationship with Mithra for many years. But till now… I have not even properly kissed her. When I proposed to her, I was still a teenager and nothing happened. Then I became a young adult in college and nothing happened.  If I had married at the right time, I would have been a family man by now. Now looking back.. I feel like I’ve wasted my youth. My suppressed desires are getting out of hand.”

He paused, then added with surprising vulnerability, “But with you even if I have to wait a few more years… it feels worth it for you.

Nikkitha laughs, what kind of word play is it?
Why could you wait for me but not for Mithra?

Tharun: Because you satisfy me emotionally. That alone is enough for me right now.

Nikkitha could not ask for more, she realized what he was saying. Mithra was not available emotionally or physically even after years in Love.

Nikitha was taken aback. Like her, he too craved emotional attachment. Unlike her, he had stayed faithful in a long relationship without even basic physical intimacy. She could hardly believe it.

She remembered how she and Jay had a physical connection with absolute no love, but here what kind of promise she made that Tharun pointlessly waited for her.. Her rage on Mithra grows, but she is controlled. She felt Mithra anyway is unimportant now.

But she suddenly remembered Tharun saying about Calicut Senior, to whom he had flirted with at night.

“What about that Calicut senior?” she asked. “Didn’t you try with her physically?”
Tharun laughed softly, shaking his head.

“No, no. I was so serious about Mithra back then. But young blood right, I was tempted, I thought I could separate my hunger for sex and love. But when I got the chance… I felt like I was cheating on her. So I withdrew.”

Nikitha let out a small laugh. “Poor you.”

Then her expression turned serious.
“Then what you’re doing now… with me… isn’t that cheating Mithra?”

Tharun’s face became solemn.

“I have already emotionally detached from her,” he admitted. “I haven’t found the courage to tell her yet. But it doesn’t mean I’m still fully in that relationship. If you had been unmarried and ready… maybe I would have told her straight away and pressured you to accept me.”

Nikitha’s heart beat faster. She asked the important question, her voice steady but laced with nervousness:

“Then what do you see me as in your life? Your girlfriend is emotionally detached and you don’t have a clear plan with her. But I’m married and not single. So what do you really want from me? Where do you see me in your future? What’s your plan for me? Answer from your heart.”

Tharun looked at her for a long moment, his eyes intense.

Nikitha wanted a straight answer from him, this would shape her future she believed.
