Meera had left home early that morning, slipping out quietly while Ajay was still asleep. She had dressed in a simple but professional light blue salwar kameez — modest enough to hide the faint hickeys on her neck and chest from the previous night with Chotu. She didn’t want to risk Ajay waking up and seeing the marks. The thought of explaining them made her stomach twist.
