Where is the gold digger part comes? I guess you have an issue with 'Overthinking'.. im not commenting personal. but you comments/ feedbacks are far extreme from story's context or intentions. 

Did any of the readers feel she is gold digger?  I bet no one will feel except you. 
Where and when did money came into part of story?  

Did you think Nikitha fall for costly dress. i mean the royal hotel , dress. 

Money has nothing to do with this.. 

Nikitha just wanted to feel loved, she wanted acknowledgement from loved one.. 

Jay seemed like never did that, but look at Tharun, he purchsed her a modern dress for special date..

There is Subtle Message kind of Metaphor, immediately.. 

Right in next scene, she was in same dress the modern and rich one, she would have looked odd at a small hotel, even the owner of shop doubtfully asked. 

But it didn't bother her, she blindly followed Jay and sat with him, eat Idlies. 

No matter how odd it is she will fit herself into it for Jay. 

That's the Subtle Message i conveyed in that Scene. 

All Jay need to do is take all clues and ACT.
