Its not that easy to paint Jay as the one who doesn't deserve Nikitha. 

One who comes from outside always sees the beauty, brains and the worth immediately because they are single plus their perspective on someone like Nikitha from afar is all the good and best qualities and their interest in them will peak very fast and their approach would also be upfront plus they give more attention and caring right away and that is all part of journey in pursuing them into a relationship so Tharun might easily look glorious in his path of attaining Nikitha.

For Jay, they entered into the marriage as more a convenience right from the beginning so the setting itself is not on a proper emotional grounding to begin with and a mere arrangement so evolving from that stage to a stage where he understands his feelings is complicated journey and requires lot of pain and courage. Yes Jay never treated her good because he always saw her as an arrangement and a good friend with benefits but like I said it all comes down to how their relationship into this marriage began and how it is evolving. 

Every one has a way to evolve and grow in a relationship and the one bond that grows through hardships will be the winner at the end in my book.
