Adultery A Husband and Wife’s Playful Texts Turn Into a Complicated Affair
Chapter 35: Unspoken Hurts

The evening sun had dipped low by the time the office began to empty.
Most people had already left, buzzing with excitement about the promotions.
Tharun walked over to Nikitha’s desk with a confident smile.

“So… congratulations,” he said, voice low. “From tomorrow, you’ll be more like my assistant. Luckily, Jay is our Creative Team Head, so he’ll tag along for most adventures. We won’t have to worry about strangers. I’ll keep Anjali busy with him… and we can have our way.” He leaned slightly closer. “And I guess I can drop you home tonight.”

Nikitha listened calmly, her expression unreadable.
“Not necessary,” she replied politely but firmly. “I’ll go with Jay. We are just colleagues, Mr. Tharun.”
Tharun chuckled softly, not offended.

“My accidental darling… your unwanted husband wants to speak to you tonight over a call. You need to answer my two doubts.” He gave her a playful wink. “You can go with Jay now.”

He left, leaving her standing there in mild confusion.

Jay was already sitting in his car in the parking lot, engine running. He had waited for a while, but when he didn’t see Nikitha, a bitter thought crossed his mind: Tharun must have picked her up. With a heavy heart, he drove off.

Nikitha stepped out a few minutes later and looked around. Jay’s car was gone. A pang of disappointment hit her. Luckily, Sharmila was still there. She quickly got into her colleague’s car and asked her to drop her a street away from their villa.

When she finally reached home, Jay was already inside, sitting on the edge of the bed, looking defeated. His eyes were red.
He looked up as she entered. Nikitha tried to suppress her smile but failed slightly.

“Don’t you know I would come?” she asked. “Why did you leave without picking me up?”
Jay looked surprised. “How would I know? I thought you went with him. Didn’t he come?”
“No. I told him I would go with you. You left before I could find you in the parking lot.”

Jay whispered, “Sorry.”
Nikitha didn’t say anything more. She knew Jay was emotionally vulnerable right now — any discussion would make him burst. She went into the kitchen and prepared dinner quietly — his favorite chapatis with spicy tomato curry. It had been a long time since she made fresh chapatis.

When she served it, she said softly, “This is to congratulate you for becoming Creative Team Head.”
Jay looked at the plate, then at her, but said nothing.
He was just lost in thoughts.. thinking about her choice to assist Tharun in her new role.

Later that night, they lay on the bed in silence.
Jay finally spoke, his voice heavy.

“I know you hate me now. You don’t believe I love you… but choosing Business Executive role to side with Tharun just to revenge me i didn't see it coming.”

Why what wrong did i do.. I apologized, i yearn for you.. Though its a marriage of conveniance i wanted to turn it real.

Nikitha turned toward him.
“I want a consistent and stable relationship.
You are not consistent or stable.”

Jay frowned. “I am stable. I’ve always loved you.”
Nikitha let out a bitter laugh.

“Just a job role and you speak like you’re lost.
Last night he kissed me — you treated me like property you own.
Then today morning, you hugged me from behind like you’d never let me go.

Which one is the real you?

The one who tries to show ownership… or
the one who says he won’t leave me… or
the one who is sobbing now?”

Jay looked at her, pain evident in his eyes.

“I don’t know how to calm you down… how to pacify you… how to prove myself. I thought my anger hurt you. I know last night was inappropriate. I didn’t know any other way to express myself. In the morning, I wanted to assure you I cannot leave you. Now I’m not sobbing or giving up… I just can’t come to terms with the fact that you chose Business Expertise just for revenge.”

Nikitha anger flared hearing her husband admitting he doesn't know...
Rage boils but she kept it controlled.

Nikitha turned fully toward him on the bed.

I can hear you.. I know you’re trying to prove you love me.
But how is it love if you don’t know me?
How is it love if you don’t know how to pacify me or calm me?

It basically says you don’t know me at all.

Tharun is an option open for me now, he shows me a hope, a promise,  — to experience what real love feels like.”
its Natural..

but regarding the job
“Isn’t that what you thought?
That I chose Business Expertise just to take revenge on you?”

Jay stayed silent. He wanted to say Yes..!

Nikitha continued calmly, “Let me rewind for you. When you chose Creative Head, did I negotiate? I stayed silent because I knew it was your long-time dream. I was ready to accept Business Expertise even without knowing what it was. I admit, i enjoyed your insecurity let me be honest, i want you to feel it.. but my intention was to give your dream to you..

But looking at how you read it I think I made a wise decision.”

She felt like she has no reason to explain ..
She turned her back to him, taking her phone in her hand.
to distract herself.

Jay slowly realized the truth.
She had done it for him. A small, sad smile appeared on his face. He suddenly hugged her tightly from behind.
“I’m sorry… I misunderstood i messed up.”

Nikitha didn’t push him away, but said coldly, “You keep messing up with me… so I’ll keep texting Tharun.”

In anger, she opened WhatsApp and typed openly, just to irritate him more.
Nikitha: Hey manager…

But the moment screen appeared, it showed the deleted messages.

Jay saw the deleted messages from morning and asked sharply,
“Why are your messages to him deleted? It looks like it happened during office hours. What is that?”

Nikitha didn’t want to reveal it was her plan to get him breakfast through the team treat.
but from all above disappointments and irriatations, she deliberatly decided to hurt him..

She lied calmly, “We just did a sex chat. I felt if someone saw it, it would be bad.”
Jay looked at her in disbelief.

“So it’s all about sex, right?
I was like a madman thinking for you worried you will be hungry, tried speaking with you before getting into life, and i even ordered extra pizzas.”
Nikitha turned her head. “You ordered?”

Jay showed her the text he had sent to Arjun.
She saw it. A sense of warmth and happiness caught her, though she couldn’t fully name why.
Her anger still remained.

Jay continued, voice breaking, “Why, Nikitha? I kept telling you I love you.
I want you to stop with him. But you do sex chats?

Is sex all you care about? Can’t you see me? If sex is the only thing, didn’t I give you enough?”
Nikitha stayed calm as she waited for Tharun’s reply.

“When you chose sex with Anjali again and again? Couldn’t you see me?”
Jay said weakly, “It was for us… to stop people from exposing us.”

Nikitha cut him off. “I know. Don’t repeat it. If you have a reason, I have one too. You did it for both of us. I’m doing it for myself — to experience love and sex the way I want. Is that reason not enough? For close to three years I’ve been with you. You had plenty of sex with Anjali. Didn’t I get hurt? Tell me one reason why I should still consider you.”

Jay whispered, “Because we stood for each other. We got married. And… love.”

Nikitha smiled bitterly.
“So should I accept your sex with Anjali and move on?”

Jay said desperately, “If you don’t like it, I’ll stop. Let’s be a family as usual.”
“Fair,” she said. “Then let me have sex with Tharun. Let me hang out with him for some months. I will stop at a time — just like how you want me to accept your past and move on. You consider this present as something that will become the past in the future… and let’s move on together. For love. For us.”

Jay realized Nikitha had carried this hurt for a long time and was finally shedding it all at once.

While he was lost in thought, Tharun replied.
Tharun: Hey accidental darling… I said I have two important questions. Shall I ask?
Nikitha: Yes, unwanted husband ?
Tharun: Wow, you’re fast. Tomorrow night — 7 PM or 6:30 PM?
Nikitha: For what?
Tharun: For a date. I’m asking for your hand on a proper date. We need to travel a lot from now on. I want to start it right — feel you before we officially start partnering.

All the messages were vague, but the intention was clear.
Jay could not believe it.

He said bitterly, “He has a girlfriend. Whatever he’s giving you now is only for sex. After it fades, there will be nothing. Trust me — I had plenty of sex with Anjali but I never felt loved. I just used her. I fear you will be treated the same way. It’s just lust, not love.”

Nikitha didn’t type anything. She listened coldly to his rant.
“I don’t want you to get hurt. I don’t want you to go with Tharun…”

She finally replied to Tharun:
Nikitha: I can’t come for the date.

Jay relaxed a little.

Tharun replied quickly: Why? Did I do anything wrong?

Nikitha: Yes. I don’t have any special dress for the date. I want to feel special… loved. I hope you can give me that.
Tharun sent a kissing emoji.
That was the last straw.

Jay’s rage flared. He turned her onto her back with force. Her phone dropped to the floor.
“If sex is all you want, I will give you,” he growled, raising her nighty to her waist.
Nikitha kept a devilish, mocking smile.
“We have had sex for more than two years actively and regularly. Why would I want to go to him? cant you think?
and She added softly, “This rage… brings out your originality.”

Jay gritted his teeth. He calmed down slightly and he left her.. moved to side and lay on bed..
he said sorry, its just a disappointment.

“I’m changing… I’m changing myself. Can’t you see?”
A little tear escaped Nikitha’s eye.

“Jay… I don’t want you to change. Or anyone, for that matter.
All I wanted was to be loved.
If you could have understood this, there would have been hope
But I fear you could never understand this.”

She repeated softly, “Ours is not a marriage at all. We have no emotional bonding. Your love claim is coming out of insecurity, not real love. At the end of the day… I want to be loved.”

Please don't try to do anything speak anything and complicate it for both of us.
She turned away and raised bedsheet to her head hiding her tears.

Jay turned away, unable to speak further.
A drop of tear rolled from his eye.
