Chapter 14 - The Truth & Unsaid love.

That night, their sex was particularly intense.

Jay took her with a raw, almost desperate hunger, thrusting deep and hard into her as if trying to bury his guilt with every stroke. He had her pinned beneath him, her legs wrapped tightly around his waist. The sound of their bodies slapping together echoed in the bedroom. Nikitha moaned loudly, her nails raking down his back, her hips rising eagerly to meet him.

“Yes… just like that,” she gasped, her voice breathy and filled with pleasure. She was completely lost in the moment — her full breasts bouncing with every powerful thrust, her wet pussy clenching tightly around his cock. She loved when he fucked her like this, so primal and possessive.

But Jay was only half present.

Even as he drove into her again and again, his mind kept flashing back to the conversation with Tharun. The smug look on the manager’s face. The deal he had made. The way he had agreed to push his own wife closer to another man. Every thrust was mixed with guilt, anger, and self-loathing.

What the fuck did I do?

But midway through, Nikitha felt it.

Jay’s rhythm was fierce, but something was off. His movements were slightly mechanical. His eyes, though filled with lust, carried a distant shadow. He was physically there, buried deep inside her, but his mind was somewhere else.
She cupped his face with both hands, forcing him to look at her while he continued thrusting.

“Jay…” she whispered between moans, her voice laced with concern. “What’s wrong?”

He didn’t answer. Instead, he kissed her hard, almost as if trying to silence her question. But Nikitha knew him too well. She could read the tension in his jaw, the slight hesitation in his hips, the way his grip on her thighs was tighter than usual — not just from passion, but from inner turmoil.

After they both reached a powerful climax — Nikitha crying out as her orgasm crashed through her, Jay groaning as he spilled deep inside her — they collapsed together, bodies slick with sweat. The room smelled strongly of sex and lavender.
Nikitha’s head rested on Jay’s chest, her fingers lazily tracing patterns on his skin. She stayed silent for a few moments, listening to his racing heartbeat.

Finally, Jay spoke, his voice heavy.

“Nikitha… I need to tell you something important.”

Before he could continue, Nikitha lifted her head and looked at him with soft, understanding eyes.

“I know,” she said gently. “I already realized something was wrong… even while you were inside me.”

Jay looked surprised.

“You weren’t yourself tonight,” she continued, her voice soft but perceptive. “Your body was here, but your mind wasn’t. You were distracted. Troubled. I wanted to ask midway… but I waited.” She brushed her thumb across his cheek. “What happened? Is it something bad?”

In that moment, it became painfully clear how deeply they understood each other. But they didnt realise it.

Despite calling their marriage one of convenience, despite claiming there was no love, they had grown so attuned to one another that even during raw, intense sex, Nikitha could sense the storm raging inside Jay. And Jay, in turn, knew she would understand without judgment.

He let out a long breath and began telling her everything — the meeting with Tharun, the deal, the threat…

He described how Tharun had called him into his cabin after the big project announcement. How they had gone through the employee list together. How Tharun’s eyes had lit up the moment he saw her name. How he had subtly but firmly pushed for her to be included in the core four members of the new high-priority game project.
Jay’s voice grew lower as he recounted Tharun’s threat — the calm but unmistakable reminder of the storage room incident on Tharun’s first day.

The power he held to escalate it to HR. The “man-to-man understanding” he had proposed: Jay would help create opportunities for Tharun to get closer to Nikitha, late nights, joint brainstorming sessions, client meetings, and in return, Tharun would overlook the incident, protect Jay’s position, and stay out of his affairs with Anjali.

Finally, with visible discomfort, Jay admitted the worst part:

“I agreed to it. I agreed to help him get closer to you… in exchange for protection.”
He fell silent, bracing himself for her reaction — anger, disappointment, or tears.
Instead, Nikitha lifted her head from his chest, looked at him for a long moment… and started laughing.

Soft, almost uncontrollable laughter bubbled out of her as she buried her face back into his chest, her shoulders shaking.

“You actually sold your wife to safeguard yourself?” she said between laughs. “Glad I’m not your real wife then. At least I know my market value now.”

Jay blinked, surprised. “You’re… not angry?”

Nikitha wiped the corner of her eye, still smiling, but her expression slowly turned more thoughtful.

“Of course I’m angry. But mostly in this situation.” She sighed. “Tharun already had doubts about us. He saw how I reacted to the storage room incident. He noticed us leaving together in the same car. The lift moment too. He was subtly fishing to see if we’re related or involved.”

She paused, then continued calmly, “If needed, I’ll play along. He’s powerful, unmarried, and attractive. I’ll tease him. Keep him interested and under control. I’ll distract him so he doesn’t dig deeper into our marriage.”

I'm fine with this.. She showed that she was not hurt, truly she was not.. She had seen Jay in an affair with Anjali, though he said it is to protect their truth. But
Deep down, however, a quieter, more painful thought crossed her mind.

Maybe Jay never really wanted this marriage, I got him into this mess. He is just living his life and she doesn't want to bother with his choices.

They had agreed to try and make it work, but there had never been any real love. No butterflies. No extraordinary feelings. It had always been survival, comfort, and sex. Hot, satisfying sex… but nothing deeper.

Why Jay Chose Anjali
Deep down, Jay had chosen Anjali for one main reason: to hide the fact that he and Nikitha were married. Being openly close with Nikitha at the office was too risky. Every glance, every conversation could expose them. Anjali was the perfect shield — loud, flirty, and publicly available. By keeping a visible “relationship” with her, Jay created a believable distraction that stopped people from suspecting anything between him and Nikitha.

He also didn’t want to drag Nikitha into his mess. He needed her safe and stable until the house loan was fully closed. He needed her by his side when he eventually faced his father again — to prove his mettle and show that he had become a successful man on his own. He couldn’t afford to lose her before that moment and look like a failure in his father’s eyes.

After proving himself, Jay had already decided in his heart — he would let her go. Set her free from this forced marriage. That was the plan he had been holding onto.
Yet, unknown to even himself, Jay had already started falling deeply for Nikitha. It showed in the way he protected her, the guilt that ate at him when he hurt her, the quiet tenderness after sex, and the sharp, burning jealousy he felt at the mere thought of another man touching her. He loved her — but he hadn’t realized it yet. He was still calling it “responsibility” and “convenience.”

Nikitha looked at Jay and said, “Once the loans are cleared in a year, I’ll quit the company. I’ll quit whatever is happening with Tharun. We’ll be free.”
Jay frowned. “You think Tharun will wait that long? With his nature… he might want you in his bed much sooner.”

Nikitha gave a small, confident smile and climbed on top of him again, straddling his waist. Her bare breasts pressed against his chest as she looked down at him teasingly.

“Then I’ll keep him on edge,” she whispered, grinding slowly against him. “I’ll make him chase. I’ll make him desperate. But I won’t give in easily. Unlike you, who couldn’t resist Anjali’s easy attention.”

Jay’s hands gripped her hips tightly, his ego stung. “Don’t push it, Nikitha.”

She giggled and leaned down, biting his lower lip playfully. “Why? If you can openly fuck Anjali in the storage room, why can’t I enjoy making Tharun lose his mind over me? Fair is fair, no?”

Jay flipped her onto her back, pinning her wrists above her head.
“You’re enjoying this way too much.”

Nikitha laughed breathlessly, wrapping her legs around him. “Maybe I am. At least someone wants me badly enough to make deals.”

They smiled at each other.

But beneath that smile, both of them felt a sharp, unspoken pain. The casual way they spoke about “not real husband,” “not real wife,” and using each other’s bodies while allowing others to desire them — it hurt more than either wanted to admit.
Jay looked at her for a long moment, then asked playfully, though his voice carried weight, “I have a doubt… why are you suddenly okay with this? I at least expected some rage or fight.”

Nikitha thought for a moment and replied casually, “Because unlike us, he is really interested in me. He’s unmarried. Won’t I try?”

Jay almost asked, Am I not fit for you? but stopped himself.
Nikitha noticed the hesitation. “What are you thinking?”

Jay asked something even more awkward, his voice low. “We’ve had sex so many times… don’t you feel anything? If you marry Tharun or someone else in the future… will you tell him about us?”

Nikitha thought for a moment, then answered honestly, “If I get a husband as understanding as you, I would tell him… given that he doesn’t judge me. But hiding is best ..why should one voluntarily tell all these? Will you tell your future wife about me and Anjali?.. We have to forget the past and move on with the present, especially should stay loyal to your partner..” She spoke from her heart, casually, without heavy emotion. “I won’t get someone like you because you are a friend who understands me..”

She continued, “We did all this casually because we are not really husband and wife. We are friends with benefits. If we were emotionally entangled, we couldn’t survive even a minute.”

Jay looked at her seriously. “What if I continue to be your husband… like we don't get a proper partner..  Meanwhile, do you have something with Tharun? Wont i”
Nikitha stopped him immediately. “Stop this, Jay. I’m uncomfortable.”

She softened a little and added, “I don’t think you will give it much weight. You will understand me… like how I understand you and Anjali.”

Their eyes met with a strange, unspoken truth.

They both knew — deep down — they couldn’t find someone better than each other.
Nikitha continued softly, “If we don’t meet a proper better half… even if we have affairs outside, our friendship and understanding will safeguard our relationship,we would crawl back without ego.”

Jay knew she was right.

Nothing more was said.

He pulled her closer for a deep kiss. Their lips sealed again. Without another word, they went for another round — slower this time, more intense, as if trying to hold onto something they both refused to name.
