The Stubborn Door
-----------------------
Three months had passed since Anu had stopped fighting. Three months of stolen afternoons in Gopal's narrow bed, of learning each other's bodies with the thoroughness of scholars studying sacred texts, of discovering pleasures she had never imagined possible in her respectable marriage. Three months of sinking deeper into an obsession that was consuming her from within, leaving her breathless, aching, endlessly hungry.
But Gopal wanted more. He always wanted more.
It was a Sunday afternoon, the house empty and still, wrapped in the heavy silence of the monsoon season. Her husband had left that morning for a three day office trip to Hyderabad, a conference on new banking regulations, he had explained over breakfast, his eyes scanning documents rather than meeting hers. She had kissed him at the door, straightened his tie, waved him off with the perfect performance of the dutiful wife. Then she had stood at the window until his car disappeared, counted to one hundred, and gone to find Gopal.
They had spent the morning in bed, lazy and unhurried, exploring each other with the familiarity of long-time lovers yet still discovering new territories. But now, as the afternoon heat built and the ceiling fan clicked overhead, Gopal sat up. His expression was serious, his fingers tracing patterns on her hip that felt like writing secrets on her skin, claiming territory that was already his but which he wanted to expand.
"Main tumhaara poora badan chahta hoon.." (I want your whole body..) Gopal said suddenly, his voice low, almost casual, as if commenting on the weather.
Anu lay on her stomach, her head turned toward him, her body still humming from their earlier lovemaking, her skin dewy with sweat and satisfaction. She smiled, drowsy and sated.
"Tumhe mera poora badan mil gaya hai.." (You have my whole body..) Anu murmured, reaching out to trace the line of his jaw.
"Har hissa. Tumhe yeh maloom hai.." (Every part. You know that..)
"Abhi tak nahi." (Not yet.) Gopal's hand moved lower, cupping her buttock, his fingers dipping into the cleft between with deliberate intention.
"Yahan. Main tumhe yahan chahta hoon.." (Here. I want you here..)
Anu stiffened immediately, rolling onto her side, pulling the sheet up to cover herself as if the thin cotton could armor her against his words.
"Nahi. Gopal, nahi. Yeh..maine kabhi nahi..yeh possible nahi hai.." (No. Gopal, no. That's..I've never..that's not possible..)
"Kyun nahi?" (Why not?) Gopal's eyes held hers, dark and patient, unwavering in their certainty.
"Kunki yeh.." (Because it's..) Anu sat up, hugging her arms around herself, her face flushing with embarrassment and something else, fear, curiosity, the terrible awareness that Gopal would not ask if he did not believe she could be persuaded.
"Yeh ganda hai..Yeh galat hai..Yeh..aisi auraton ke liye hai jo" (It's dirty..It's wrong. It's for..for women who..)
"Jinke liye?" (For what?) Gopal sat up beside her, his hand finding her knee, his touch gentle but insistent.
"Randiyon ke liye? Doosri auraton ke liye? Jaise tumhare jaise izzatdar memsaabon ke liye nahi?" (For whores? For other women? Not for respectable memsaabs like you?)
"Mujh par mazaak mat karo.." (Don't mock me..)
Anu pulled her knee away, her voice sharp. "Main serious hoon.. Maine yeh kabhi nahi kiya..Mere pati ke saath nahi.." (I'm serious..I've never done that..Not with my husband.)
"Mujhe infection ho sakti hai..bahut kuch galat ho sakta hai.." (I could get infected..there are things that can go wrong..)
"Aur kuch sahi bhi ho sakta hai.." (And things that can go right..) Gopal interrupted softly.
"Jo cheezein taraki ki ho sakti hain..Badalne waali cheezein." (Things that can be transcendent..Transformative.)
"Tumhe kaise maloom?" (How do you know?) Anu challenged, her eyes narrowing.
"Tumhe kaise maloom ki yeh mere liye accha hoga? Agar yeh sirf dard hai toh?" (How do you know it would be good for me? What if it's just pain?)
"Agar mujhe nafrat ho toh? Agar main na kar saku..tumhe adjust nahi kar paungi?" (What if I hate it? What if I can't..can't accommodate you?)
"Phir hum ruk jayenge.." (Then we stop..) Gopal held up his hand, palm open, honest.
"Agar sirf dard hai, agar koi anand nahi hai, agar tumhe har lamhe nafrat ho..hum ruk jayenge.." (If there is only pain, if there is no pleasure, if you hate every moment..we stop..)
"Main nikal jaunga. Hum is bare phir kabhi baat nahi karenge. Mera vada hai." (I withdraw. We never speak of it again. You have my word.)
"Lekin tumhe yeh chaahiye.." (But you want it..) Anu pressed, searching his face.
"Tumhe yeh bahut chaahiye..Main dekh sakti hoon..Kyun? Kyun specifically yeh? Kya yeh meri jeet ka sawal hai?" (You want it badly..I can see it..Why? Why this specifically?)
"Yeh sabit karne ke liye ki tum woh le sakte ho jo mera pati kabhi nahi maanga?" (About proving you can take what my husband has never even asked for?)
Gopal was silent for a long moment, his expression shifting, becoming vulnerable in a way she rarely saw.
"Haan.." (Yes..) Gopal admitted finally, the word heavy with truth.
"Hisse mein..Main tumse jhooth nahi bolunga, Anu. Main tumhein poori tarah se apna banana chahta hoon.." (Partly..I won't lie to you, Anu. I want to possess you completely..)
"Yeh jaan kar ki tumhare badan ka har hissa..har dwaar, har raaz..mujhe jaanta hai, mujhe le chuka hai, mera hai.." (To know that every part of your body..every entrance, every secret..knows me, has taken me, belongs to me..)
"Main yeh tumhaara pehla hoon. Tumhaara akhiri." (I want to be your first in this. Your only.)
"Aur main agar na kahoon?" (And if I say no?)
"Phir main maan jaunga.." (Then I accept it..) Gopal withdrew his hand completely, laying it on his thigh, his face serious.
"Main is mein bhi tumhara sevak hoon..Main tumhare anand ki seva karta hoon.." (I am your servant in this as well..I serve your pleasure..)
"Agar yeh tumhein sirf dard aur dar deta hai, toh mujhe yeh nahi chaahiye." (If this brings you only pain and fear, then I don't want it.)
"Mujhe yeh se behtar hai ki hum jo hai woh rakhein, tumhein majboor karke kuch aisa jo tumhein nuksan pahunchaye.." (I would rather have what we have than force you to something that harms you..)
Anu stared at him, surprised by his withdrawal, perversely disappointed, her body already responding to the idea despite her mind's resistance.
"Tum kabhi nahi pochoge?" (You would stop asking?)
"Hamesha ke liye?" (Forever?)
"Hamesha ke liye.." (Forever..) Gopal lay back, his arm behind his head, his body exposed and beautiful, his cock already half-hard from their conversation.
"Lekin main sochta hoon ki tum utsuk ho.." (But I think you are curious..)
"Main sochta hoon ki tumhare andar ka kuch hissa, jo hissa ne pichle hafton mein tumhe hairan kiya hai..jaanna chahta hai." (I think some part of you, the part that has surprised you these past weeks..wants to know.)
"Mehsoos karna chahta hai..Poori tarah se har dena chahta hai.." (To feel..To surrender completely..)
"Main dar rahi hoon.." (I'm afraid..) Anu whispered, the truth escaping like a bird from a cage.
"Maloom hai.." (I know..) Gopal turned his head to look at her, his gaze tender and fierce.
"Dar iska hissa hai..Har deyne mein dar mitha ban deta hai..Pratirodh deney ko gehra banata hai.." (Fear is part of it..The fear makes the surrender sweeter..The resistance makes the yielding more profound..)
"Tumhein itna kaise maloom?" (How do you know so much?) Anu lay down beside him, her head on his chest, listening to his heartbeat, feeling the warmth of his skin against hers.
"Tumhein kaise maloom ki main mehsoos karti hoon usse pehle ki main mehsoos karti hoon?" (How do you know what I feel before I feel it?)
"Kunki main tumhein dekhta hoon.." (Because I watch you..) Gopal murmured into Anu's hair, his hand stroking her back.
"Main tumhein padhta hoon..Main tumhein seekhta hoon..Tum meri zindagi ka kaam ho, Anu..Meri ek hi padhai..Mera junoon.." (I study you..I learn you..You are my life's work, Anu..My only study. My obsession..)
Anu lifted her head from his chest, her eyes meeting his with a glimmer of mischief cutting through the tension.
"Gopal, tum pagal ho.." (Gopal, you're crazy..) Anu said softly, a playful smile tugging at her lips as her fingers traced lazy circles on Gopal's chest. Gopal caught her hand, bringing it to his lips with a quiet laugh that rumbled through his chest.
"Haan, pagal hoon " (Yes, I'm crazy..) he admitted, pressing a kiss to Anu's knuckles.
"Tumhare liye pagal hoon..Yeh pagalpan hai, lekin sachcha hai.." (Crazy for you..It's madness, but it's true..)
"Pagalpan hai..Mohabbat bhi.." (It's madness. It's also love.)
"Aur yeh.." (And this..) Anu hesitated, her voice small. "Jo cheez tum chahte ho.. Yeh mujhe tumse bandhega?" (This thing you want..It will bind me to you?)
"Poori tarah se. Badal nahi sakte. Tumhare badan ka woh hissa nahi hoga jo tumse khula nahi hua ho." (Completely. Irrevocably. There will be no part of you that has not opened to me.)
"Jo hissa tumne mujhe qubool nahi kiya ho..Jo hissa chhupa nahi hoga.." (No part that has not accepted me..No part that remains hidden..)
Anu was silent for a long moment, her fingers tracing patterns on his chest, her mind racing through possibilities, terrors, desires. "Agar main na kar sakti toh?" (What if I can't?)
Anu whispered finally. "Agar mera badan na kare toh? Agar main bahut choti, bahut tight, bahut.." (What if my body won't? What if I'm too small, too tight, too..)
"Phir hum ruk jayenge," (Then we stop,) Gopal repeated.
"Lekin tumhara badan tumhe pehle bhi hairan kiya hai, na?" (But your body has surprised you before, hasn't it?)
"Jab maine tumhe pehli baar liya, tumhe laga ki tum sukhi ho, pratirodh karogi, mujhe adjust nahi kar paogi. Lekin tum geeli thi.." (The first time I took you, you thought you would be dry, resistant, unable to accommodate me. But you were soaked..)
"Tum ek phool ki tarah khul gayi. Tumhara badan jaanta tha jo tum jaanne se inkar karti thi.." (You opened like a flower. Your body knew what you refused to know..)
"Woh alag tha. Woh..natural tha. Yeh.." (That was different. That was..natural. This is..)
"Yeh bhi natural hai," (This is also natural,) Gopal interrupted gently.
"Badan mein anand ke bahut tareeke hain. Aanand ke bahut raaste hain.." (The body has many ways of pleasure. Many paths to ecstasy..)
"Yeh unmein se ek hai. Sabse tej. Sabse poora. Sabse kamzor." (This is one of them. The most intense. The most complete. The most vulnerable.)
"Kamzor," (Vulnerable,) Anu repeated, tasting the word. "Main bahut kamzor ho jaungi. Poori tarah se tumhare reham par." (I would be so vulnerable. Completely at your mercy.)
"Haan.." (Yes..) Gopal didn't deny it.
"Lekin main rehamdar banoonga. Main tumhari taiyari karunga." (But I would be merciful. I would prepare you.)
"Main tumhein aaram se kholunga. Main tumhare liye yeh accha banaunga.." (I would open you slowly. I would make it good for you..)
"Main tumhein aise chilaunga jaise tumne pehle nahi chilaya." (I would make you scream my name in ways you haven't before.)
"Ghamand.." (Arrogant..) Anu accused, but there was no heat in it.
"Vishvash.." (Confident..) Gopal corrected. "Kunki main tumhein jaanta hoon.." (Because I know you..)
"Kunki main jaanta hoon ki tumhara badan mujhe jawab deta hai jab tumhara dimaag pratirodh karta hai." (Because I know your body responds to me even when your mind resists.)
"Kunki main jaanta hoon ki dar ke neeche, tumhe poori tarah se har dena chahti ho. Poori tarah se apna banana chahti ho..Bas mehsoos karne ke liye.." (Because I know that deep down, beneath the fear, you want to surrender completely..To be possessed absolutely. To have no choice but to feel..)
Anu closed her eyes, his words working on her like fingers on her skin, like oil on her flesh, like the slow, inexorable pressure of persuasion.
"Dikhao.." (Show me..) Anu said suddenly, the words surprising them both, escaping before she could cage them.
Gopal's hand stilled on her back. "Dikhao?" (Show you?)
"Dikhao ki kaise." (Show me how.) She opened her eyes, meeting his gaze, her decision made, her fear acknowledged but overridden by curiosity, by desire, by the dark part of her that wanted to be completely claimed.
"Dikhao ki kaise khulna hai..Lekin aaram se..Aur agar main rukne ko kahoon.." (Show me how to open..But go slowly..And if I say stop..)
"Main ruk jaunga.." (I stop..) Gopal promised, his voice thick with arousal and care. "Hamesha..Tumhara shabd kanoon hai..Tumhara badan mandir hai..Main sirf anjaani se andar aata hoon.." (Always..Your word is law..Your body is temple..I enter only with permission..)
"Sirf tumhari ungli.." (Just your finger..) Anu said, her voice barely audible, trembling with the magnitude of her surrender. "Bas dekhne ke liye. Bas jaanne ke liye. Agar mujhe nafrat ho..agar sirf dard ho.." (Just to see. Just to know. If I hate it..if it's only pain..)
"Hum ruk jayenge," (We stop..) Gopal finished. "Aur main tumhein pakadunga. Aur main tumhein pyar karunga..Aur main dobara nahi pochunga.." (And I will hold you..And I will love you..And I will never ask again.)
Anu nodded, her throat too tight for words, and rolled onto her stomach, pulling the pillow under her head, her face turned away from him in embarrassment, her body already preparing itself, her heart hammering a rhythm of fear and anticipation.
"Apni ghutnon par.." (On your knees..) Gopal instructed gently. "Munh neeche..Yeh tumhein kholta hai..Yeh aasaan banata hai.." (Face down..It opens you..It makes it easier..)
Anu followed Gopal's guidance, her movements hesitant but obedient, her body trembling as she positioned herself. Gopal's hands were warm against her skin as he adjusted the pillow beneath her hips, his touch both comforting and electrifying. Gopal could feel the tension in Anu's muscles, the way her body coiled with anticipation and fear. Gopal's fingers traced the curve of Anu's spine, a silent promise that he would honor his words, that this surrender would not break her but perhaps, in some way, set her free.
