Chapter 146 - The Accident
It was 7:20 PM when the calling bell rang.
Suresh had returned home just five minutes earlier.
He was still in his formal shirt, loosening his tie, when the sound echoed through the house.
He smirked, glancing at Sneha who was in the kitchen.
“Is your lover back today so soon?” he teased lightly.
Sneha rolled her eyes with a small smile and throws a tumbler on him in a childish fake anger.
But its a mix of shame and shyness.
She walked to the door, Surprisingly noticing why Gowtham is so soon.
The moment she opened it, her expression changed.
Two cops stood outside, their faces serious.
“Ma’am, is that Gowtham’s residence?” one of them asked. Pointing at the closed door.
Sneha’s heart skipped a beat.
She called out immediately, “Suresh!”
Suresh came to the door, his casual smile fading the second he saw the uniforms.
“Yes? What do you want?” he asked, voice steady but alert.
The senior officer explained calmly, “There was an accident involving this person.
We called his office and got the address from security.
We thought his parents or wife would be here, but the door is locked.”
Suresh’s face tightened with worry.
What Accident?
“Is he critical?”
“We don’t know the full extent yet, sir. He was taken to Government Hospital.
We just came from local station after receiving the report.
Whom we should call, do you have any of their numbers?
Suresh said no, He is not married and their parents are at distance like it would take hours.
The officer said, There was significant blood loss from a sharp cut on his leg. We heard someone to has to accompany him, they may even require consent from family for further treatment.”
Suresh and Sneha exchanged a quick, heavy glance. A thousand thoughts passed between them in that single look — concern, suspicion, responsibility.
“We’ll come, we are his family as well,” Suresh said without hesitation.
“Give us two minutes.”
Sneha quickly grabbed her dupatta and phone while Suresh took the car keys.
Within minutes, they were in the car, following the security officer vehicle through the evening traffic.
At the Hospital, the scene was chaotic but organized.
They were led to the emergency ward.
Gowtham lay on a bed behind a thin curtain, covered partially by a sheet. His leg was heavily bandaged, blood still visible on parts of the dressing. Monitors beeped steadily around him. He looked pale, unconscious from the sedatives.
The doctor approached them.
You are his relatives?
Yes I'm like a brother to him..
Doctor smiled, not to worry.. i would not have discussed with the "I'm Like" people if he had a serious issue. As consents may require real relatives.
Fine you came to take care of him right?
“He lost a lot of blood due to a deep cut from the accident. We’ve taken X-rays. It’s a hairline fracture on the tibia. He’ll need to rest for at least six weeks. We’ve stitched the wound, but we recommend keeping him under observation for the next 3 days to monitor for infection and ensure proper healing.”
Suresh nodded, processing everything.
“Can we see him?”
Yes absolutely..
The doctor allowed them a short visit.
Inside the ward, Gowtham slowly stirred as the sedatives began to wear off.
His eyes opened, hazy at first, then focused on Sneha and Suresh standing there.
They immediately asked gently about his parents’ contact numbers.
Gowtham shook his head weakly.
“No… don’t bother them.
It will take them 10 hours to reach here.
I heard what the doctor said.
This can stay between us. Six weeks… I can manage.”
I don't want them to get worried.
Suresh and Sneha looked at each other again.
After a brief discussion with the doctor, they agreed.
“We’ll take care of him,” Suresh said firmly.
“We’ll bring him home once he’s stable enough to be discharged.”
