Chapter 145 - New HR and Old Wounds
At Gowtham’s office, the morning had been filled with formalities and speeches. Mirna Vikram officially took charge as the new temporary HR and shareholder. She moved with quiet authority, her presence commanding respect from the moment she stepped in.
The first thing she noticed on her new desk were two resignation letters.
One from Gowtham.
One from Varsha.
Mirna’s sharp eyes narrowed. Prakash had already briefed her about how Rahul had played dirty games in the company — leaking tenders and crossing lines. Gowtham and Varsha were the ones who had exposed him. Their sudden resignations seemed highly suspicious.
Prakash was busy signing important documents for a smooth transfer of responsibilities.
He had also spoken at length about Varsha’s struggles, asking Mirna to go soft on her if she made any missteps.
During his call to Mirna before she arrives.
Varsha entered the cabin carrying refreshments.
She placed the tray down politely.
“Ma’am, should I bring coffee or tea for the driver inside Prakash sir’s cabin?”
Mirna smiled faintly. He is not driver and Bharath prefers coffee.
Just place it here. I’ll give it to him.”
Mirna apologized and gave her a tray with two cups of coffee.
Varsha observed Mirna closely.
She looked young, determined, and strikingly beautiful. The nuptial chain around her neck, the bindi on her forehead, and the slight lining of her stomach visible under the displaced pallu suggested she was married and a young mother.
Could the man inside be her husband? Mirna wondered.
A few moments later, Bharath came out of Prakash’s cabin. He had a good, familiar talk with Mirna — they seemed too close, almost intimate. When Bharath left with the documents, Mirna called out to him,
but he didn’t turn.
He walked straight to the lift.
Varsha, looking worried, came back to ask.
“Ma’am, any issue? should i get sir..
Mirna said, yea I forgot my laptop in the Jeep. Need to get it.”
No worries mam give me a minute
Varsha quickly went back to her place to turn off the printer at her desk and hurried down via the lift.
She didn’t notice Mirna had already left. even before she goes to turn of printer.
As she reached the parking area, she froze.
Bharath gave a kiss on Mirna’s lips while she stood holding her laptop.
It was brief but unmistakable.
Varsha hid behind a pillar, a small smile forming on her face.
She went back to lift to go back..
Her heart ached for a second.
Will some love like this ever happen for me? And
ultimately, all the way to her thoughts, Gowtham’s face flashed before her eyes.
The office routine continued.
Time passed quickly.
Gowtham, buried in long-pending work, decided to stay late.
Varsha, too, stayed back.
Mirna had left for the rooftop after receiving a call.
A moment later, Varsha came to Gowtham’s desk, hesitation clear on her face.
She began, voice shaky.
“I’m resigning. I submitted the paper.
You take back yours.”
Gowtham looked up, stunned.
“You are quitting because of me, right?
It’s a harsh decision Gowtham.
What will you do for your regular bills?
Sending money to your parents?
How will you manage?”
Why do you care miss?
He doesn't want to tell her that he is not quitting as he felt its not a needed one
Varsha said you could suffer, you never know what it would look like.
Varsha said, her voice breaking slightly.
“Suffering is not a new thing for me.”
She then looked at HR Cabin and said you resigination letter is there on table right.
Gowtham knows what it is..
She quickly went into the HR cabin,
took Gowtham’s resignation letter despite his resistance,
tore it into pieces, and threw it in the dustbin.
Mirna, who had come back to take her mobile charger, noticed everything.
She didn’t say a word.
She looked at the torn letter and realized it was Gowtham’s.
Gowtham and Varsha was shocked when they saw Mirna entered Cabin.
She quietly went back to the rooftop, seeming lost in another storm of her own.
Gowtham left a deep breath, seeing Mirna was not bothered by their action.
After seeing Mirna is out of sight..
Gowtham pulled Varsha's hand and said
“You don’t have any fucking rights in my decisions.
You are not in my life. Get lost.”
Few minutes later,
He took his belongings and left the office.
Varsha sat on her chair, a cloud of tears welling up in her eyes.
She couldn’t bear it. She drank some water, then remembered the new HR had seen them.
She worried what if Mirna took action or informed Prakash.
She decided to meet her and apologize.
She climbed the stairs to the rooftop. As she reached the open shed pantry area, Mirna was sitting alone.
As Varsha got closer, she realized Mirna was in tears.
It looked like she had just cut off a call with someone.
Mirna quickly wiped her tears when she saw Varsha.
Varsha asked softly, “Ma’am, sorry… what happened? Prakash uncle said you are a stronger person.. but you are …”
Mirna suddenly smiled through her tears, a small, tired laughter escaping her.
“Just marriage stuff. Husband and wife misunderstanding and other equations.
Anyway, it’s personal.”
Varsha was surprised. H
ow can a husband who kissed her in the parking lot suddenly fight with her?
Is this how marriage works? she asked herself.
Mirna, noticing Varsha’s puzzled look, asked,
“What about you? you are having those lovey-dovey fights?”
Varsha hesitated. “Ma’am?”
“I saw you with Gowtham.
In my cabin.
You two were playing with resignation letters.”
Varsha hesitatingly said, “No ma’am, just a colleague…”
Mirna corrected her gently. “I don’t see it like that. Your uncle told me about your condition. Yet you submitted your resignation, thinking if you quit, he will continue here. I heard it..
You are ready to suffer yourself so he can lead a good life.
You reminded me of myself a few years back.
I was there once. It’s worth it.”
She smiled recounting the old days..
Anyways that's personnal and differs from person to person.
Varsha smiled a bit, embarrassed.
Then she hesitatingly asked, “Your husband just came in the morning with you… now he is fighting with you?”
Mirna smiled and said, The person who came with me in the morning?
“He is my friend Bharath. He is not my husband.”
It shook Varsha. She wanted to ask why she allowed him to kiss her then, but didn’t want to overstep.
Mirna then told her, “I excuse the lovers’ drama now.
I don’t want it to repeat from tomorrow.”
She patted Varsha’s shoulder and went down.
As Varsha too got ready to leave, she saw the Thar arrive and pick up Mirna.
They drove off like a couple.
3 km away…
Gowtham was riding his bike, the same memories of Varsha telling him she was resigning playing in his mind.
Something struck him hard.
She already needed a lot of money.
She had already risked being touched by Rahul for the same reason.
Why was she willing to quit?
Because of me, thinking i would suffer..?
Why was she worried that i would struggle?
The bold, unbothered, selfish woman was dropping her attitude for me?.
Does she love me? The thought stuck in his mind.
A mild smile appears near his lips.
She loves me? Did she falls for a no man like me?
He wanted to stop the bike and return to the office.
To ask her again clearly..
But before he could, a car hit him from behind, causing him to drift.
His leg slammed against the wall.
The car didn’t stop — it raced away.
Rahul, who was driving it, had a cold laugh.
“You asshole… you are the reason why Prakash pushed me.”
He smirked and sped off into the night.
A big crowd gathered quickly.
Fifteen minutes later, an ambulance arrived.
Due to the accident, the road got stuck with traffic,
every vehicle moves slowly in snail pace.
Varsha, who was in one of the bus heading home,
looked out the window at the accident scene.
The heavily damaged bike looked painfully familiar — the same model Gowtham rode.
Did he reach home safe?
A strange worry hit, her.
She tried to call him but stopped herself, fearing it would irritate him.
She kept her mobile back in her purse.
