And our stories are based on them..
Every character is operating in their personal “I’m the victim” universe. From their POV, their actions make perfect emotional sense. Nobody thinks they’re ruining lives; they all believe they’re just reacting to circumstances, feelings, or destiny itself.
But the moment readers step in as third-party observers, suddenly morality becomes one-sided. We pick a favorite, crown a hero, label a villain, and conveniently forget that the same situation looks completely different depending on whose eyes you’re borrowing.
Truth is, the characters aren’t saints or devils — they’re just humans making questionable decisions while fully convinced they’re justified.
The audience judges outcomes; the characters live through intentions.
So yeah, nobody is entirely right, nobody is entirely wrong… but everyone is confidently dramatic about it.
