In the six months since Athi started working, a close friendship had developed between her and Velu.
Whenever Athi made a mistake at work, Velu would gently point it out and correct her with affection. He personally taught her every single aspect of the business. Within six months, Athi had learned everything.
Her respect for Velu grew even more.
She had also heard rumours that other women in the office had their eyes on Velu, but she pretended not to notice.
Still, she was curious — why didn’t Velu ever show interest in any woman? She was waiting for the right moment to find out.
While her office life was going well, her married life was suffering. Because of Ravi, their sex lasted less than two minutes every time.
On one festival day, Athi had invited Velu home for lunch.

At that moment, Ravi was lying on the bed in the bedroom, and Athi was bathing in the attached bathroom.
Athi’s phone started ringing.
She heard it and asked Ravi to pick it up.
Ravi saw it was Velu.
**Velu:** Hello… This is Velu speaking.
**Ravi:** Sir, tell me… Have you reached?
**Velu:** I’ve reached. My car has a puncture at the entrance of your street.
Ravi told Athi and hurriedly left the house, forgetting to close the bedroom door behind him.
He went straight to Velu, saw him and said,
“Sir, you take my bike and go home. I’ll get your car fixed and bring it.”
Velu agreed and left on the bike.
Ravi dropped the car at the puncture shop and rushed back home.

Just then, Ravi’s son and parents also returned. They all greeted Velu and went inside.
Ravi called out to Athi, “Athi, Sir has come. Come and see!”
Athi came out of the room. She smiled at Velu and said “Welcome Sir,” but then she looked at Ravi with eyes that were burning with anger, as if she wanted to kill him.
