Opening Scene - The Engagement

In the opulent private banquet hall of The Leela Palace, Chennai, soft golden chandeliers cast a warm glow over the small, intimate gathering. The ceremony was deliberately quiet — no loud relatives, no flashing cameras, just the two families bound by decades-old promises and hidden ambitions.

Malavika sat stiffly in a rich maroon silk saree that dbangd elegantly over her slender frame. At twenty-five, she was a stunning beauty — the kind that turned heads instantly. Her figure was alluring and feminine: full, heavy breasts that strained subtly against the tight blouse, narrow waist, and small, shapely hips. Long raven-black hair cascaded down her back, framing a gorgeous face with high cheekbones, full lips, and large expressive eyes that still carried a hint of lingering sadness.

Sharma’s wife, Adhini Sharma, leaned closer, her voice sweet but firm.
“Do you like Bhaskar, my dear?”

Malavika hesitated. Before she could answer, Adhini laughed lightly, as if it were the most amusing joke.

“Even if you don’t, he will be your husband. Your father and I made a promise just a week before that terrible accident — if the children grew up and the families stayed united, you would marry Bhaskar. All these years you stayed distant… first Bangalore for studies, then the UK for your MBA. Your uncle kept you away. But now you’re back. It’s time to take charge of what your parents left you.”

Adhini’s hand gently squeezed Malavika’s. “Don’t think of this as an engagement party. It’s just a formality. Exchange the rings, fulfil the promise your parents made. The official marriage can happen in a year. Until then, you’ll learn the workings of the group… and get used to Bhaskar.” She smiled knowingly. “We’ve already prepared the luxury apartment for you both. You’ll stay with him. It’s almost like you’re half-married already. You two need time to know each other, don’t you?”

Malavika’s heart felt heavy. She knew she was just doing this because she had no other way. Her uncle’s family had been quietly pushing her out — her aunt’s bitter complaints about the money spent on her still echoed in her ears. She needed to secure her parents’ legacy, especially the 10% stake in VeeR Group. She needed a life ahead. Deep in her heart, she felt no emotional connection to Bhaskar, but she had agreed anyway. The only thing that truly felt odd — almost frightening — was the idea of staying together with him right away, under the same roof, sharing the same luxury apartment… like they were already married.

She glanced at Bhaskar.

He stood tall and commanding in his perfectly tailored black suit, broad shoulders relaxed, sharp jawline catching the light. He wasn’t looking at her with affection. He was speaking in low, confident tones to his father about share percentages, board control, and “how perfectly our families will benefit once the stakes are combined.” His intense dark eyes occasionally flicked toward her, scanning her body like an asset he was about to acquire.

Malavika exhaled slowly, staring out through the tall windows at the dark Chennai sky.

If this is my fate… if this is what you wanted for me, she whispered silently to her parents, then I accept it.
A few minutes later, they stood facing each other.

Bhaskar’s large, warm hand took hers. His grip was firm, almost possessive, his thumb slowly stroking the inside of her wrist in a way that sent an unexpected shiver down her spine. The rings were exchanged in near silence — a heavy diamond solitaire sliding onto her slender finger, followed by a sleek platinum band on his.

The vows were short. Quiet. Final.
No fireworks. No declarations of love.

Only the soft click of metal and the heavy, unspoken knowledge that their lives — and soon, their bodies — were now bound together.
