Ajay reached home at 9:45 pm. His shoulders were slumped, eyes tired, and steps heavy. The entire day had been a complete disaster.
He had woken up at 5:30 AM and gone early to meet a mid-level officer who worked in Shankar’s company. He waited outside the man’s house for almost four hours. When he finally met him in the evening, Ajay gave his best business pitch — offering attractive foreign tour packages for the company staff at very low rates.
But the officer just shook his head.
“Ajay, this plan will not work. We already have a vacation planner who gives us much better deals. Even if you reduce your price, I don’t think my boss will agree. Please don’t come this way again.”
Those words kept ringing in Ajay’s head. He felt completely defeated. All his hopes of infiltrating Shankar’s office through the tourism shop were shattered. On the way back, he felt so low that he stopped at a small bar and had two large pegs of whiskey. He rarely drank, but today he needed something to dull the pain of failure.
When he inserted the key into the door, he had already decided — tonight he would tell Meera the truth. They should go back to their native place. The mission had failed. There was no point staying here anymore.
But the moment he opened the door, he saw Meera standing there with a bright, glowing face. She was wearing his favourite loose white T-shirt and blue skirt. She looked genuinely happy.
She ran to him and hugged him tightly. “You came! I was waiting for you.”
Ajay could smell the faint alcohol on his breath, but Meera didn’t say anything. She understood how much pressure he was under with the new shop. She just held him tighter.
Ajay remembered that today was her interview day. He didn’t want to kill her happiness with his failure. He forced a small smile.
“How was your interview?” he asked.
Meera’s face lit up like a thousand watts. She pulled him inside excitedly.
“Ajay, you won’t believe what happened! I reached late because of traffic. I even went to the wrong floor first! There were so many beautiful, modern girls there. I felt so out of place… but still, I got selected!”
She was jumping with joy while telling him everything.
“And guess what? I am not a junior accountant. I got selected as Personal Assistant to the owner — Mr. Shankar! The salary is 60,000 rupees per month!”

“Shankar?” he asked slowly.
“Yes! Blue Blooming Clothings. It’s their new company. I will be working directly under Shankar sir.”
Ajay’s eyes suddenly twinkled. His drunk, tired mind became sharp in an instant.
Blue Blooming Clothings… subsidiary of ZALIDUS Corp.
He knew this name very well from Raghav’s files. ZALIDUS Corp was one of the front companies used by Vikram for his hawala and betting operations. Shankar was the director of Blue Blooming.
Ajay felt a sudden rush of hope.
He pulled Meera into a tight hug, hiding his face in her neck so she wouldn’t see the change in his expression. Meera thought he was happy for her success and hugged him back even tighter, pressing her soft breasts against his chest.
“I am so proud of you,” Ajay whispered, even though his mind was racing with new plans.
If Meera is working directly under Shankar… she will have access to files, meetings, parties, maybe even Vikram’s farmhouse events… This is the opening I needed!
Meera pulled back, still excited. “You know, when I told them I applied for junior accountant, they still gave me this big position. I think they liked me.”
Ajay nodded, forcing a smile. “Yes… they must have seen how good you are.”
He didn’t tell her anything about his disappointment or the failed meeting. He also didn’t mention that her new boss was the same person he was trying to trap.
That night, while Meera slept peacefully with a happy smile on her face, Ajay lay awake staring at the ceiling. His mission, which felt completely dead just a few hours ago, had suddenly found a new lifeline.
And that lifeline was his own innocent, beautiful wife.
