Chapter 44 - A War in the room!
The three of them stood in the flat — the air thick with tension.
Anandhi felt a war-like situation closing in on her.
The sudden realisation that both men wanted to be her better half — her husband — hit her all at once. The thought of competition, the pressure of choice, the fear of hurting one or both… it all flashed before her eyes.
She was not sure how she would respond if either asked for her decision right now.
Rohan and Riya hugged her legs, the kids searching her bag excitedly to see if she had brought anything for them from the day’s chaos.
Jeeva handed them a small toy each — simple plastic cars he had picked up while they roamed the streets earlier. Anandhi was surprised. She was not sure when he had got them. It reminded her sharply of Rahul. He never missed bringing toys whenever he came from Mumbai. She remembered the time he missed his purse in the train, got down at the next station, gave his watch to a vendor, and still managed to buy toys for the kids before reaching home.
This was one reason why she could not ignore Jeeva. Rahul - The man she loved once — and still saw echoes of him in Jeeva. The pull, the care, the small thoughtful gestures… everything matched.
Her admiration for Jeeva lingered for a minute.
Then her focus shifted to Suriya — in seconds — as she witnessed something else.
Suriya came in between them and asked Riya and Rohan politely to go to sleep.
“Mom is tired,” he said gently, kneeling down to their level. “The toy travelled a long distance and needs sleep too.”
Normally her kids would shout if someone tried to take the toy away or ask them to do something else. But today, Suriya made them obey with just gentle talk and a warm smile. No force. No raised voice.
Suriya was putting real effort into gelling with the kids.
A person she could rely on now seemed to be none other than Suriya. He was gentle. He was a savior. He had even asked openly for her hand in remarriage — a new life with the kids. He equally weighed her kids and his own. A perfect gentleman.
Just today she saw him properly — quite muscular, his shirt’s top button opened, giving a glimpse of a hairy chest. Earlier she had seen him shirtless but never with these close observations.
Today, with Rahul confirmed to be in an affair with someone else, her mind didn’t act like one woman who had dignity. For a moment she lost herself between both men.
Suriya picked Rohan up in his arms and carried him to bed. Anandhi watched as he laid the boy down and started telling a simple story in a low, soothing voice. He was putting real effort into making them sleep.
Anandhi went in and joined them.
Jeeva just watched all from the hall.
He felt a heartfelt pang seeing them together.
But jealousy crept in. His male ego didn’t want that to happen.
He stepped into the room and said to Anandhi, “We need to talk.”
He really had nothing specific to talk about. It was just that some part of him didn’t want Suriya to steal these moments. He wanted to spend some time with her.
Suriya looked up — calm but firm.
“Whatever it is, let’s speak another day. She might be tired and exhausted from whatever happened.”
Jeeva didn’t expect the response. He thought Suriya was scoring well.
He went back to his guest room — frustrated.
When Suriya was about to leave the room, Anandhi said softly, “Thanks for everything… and thanks for understanding.
I’m not in the mood to answer both of your questions right now.”
Suriya nodded.
He had already decided when Jeeva and Anandhi was in Mumbai, that he needs bypass Jeeva and do his own game to take Anandhi in hand, for some reaons he actually thanked Jeeva inside, as he used to say asking her gentle in marriage would take time but seducing her owning her in bed would quickly push her towards marriage..
But if he continues to do as per jeeva's order, he may not get her in his bed anytime soon and he was not sure why Jeeva playing this game.
He does'nt want to believe, who in the world will ignore a beauty like her.
He decided to talk things in hand, the first step for it should be bypassing jeeva and having secret meetings and plans with Anandhi.
he was lost in thought, until Anandhi asked! What? did my answer hurt you?
Suriya said no , i lost in some thoughts
“I know,” you are not in position to answer anyone, and frankly i dont want to hear anything from you apart from you are okay, and you are strong enough to handle it.
Anandhi got relaxed hearing the exact words from Suriya.
He said gently. “Tomorrow let’s go out — I mean in the noon. You go to college, I’ll pick you up for lunch.”
Anandhi asked, surprised, “Why?”
Suriya said, “Jeeva is always here hanging around. I have certain plans with respect to his education. and keep him focused on his future. I don’t see any privacy, especially when we talk about him and we need to plan something for ourselves — I mean for protecting ourselves, the family, and even Jeeva.”
Anandhi hesitated for a second, then said, “Okay.”
Suriya smiled lightly.
“Good night. Sleep well. Tomorrow… lunch.”
Anandhi nodded and went to sleep.
