28. Gayatri’s visit to her friend Anjali’s house

After a couple of weeks, one day Gayatri had to go to meet her friend Anjali living on the other side of the town. She had left Chintu with neighbor aunty after he returned from college in the afternoon. It would take her about 1.5 hours to reach there. She left at 4 PM and reached there at 5:30 PM using bus and local trains. 

It was a typical afternoon, filled with the sounds of birds chirping and the rustling of leaves as Gayatri sat with her close friend Anjali on the veranda. They often spent time together like this, talking about their families, their lives, and all the little details in between. But today, the conversation seemed to take on a deeper tone, as Anjali, fresh from a solo getaway, appeared to have something new to say.

As Gayatri and Anjali continued to talk on the veranda, the conversation had shifted into deeper and more personal territory. 

Anjali: "You know, Gayu, I’ve been doing a lot of thinking lately." Her voice was calm but reflective, as if she had been waiting to bring up this subject. "I love my life, my family, but sometimes I feel like... there’s something missing."

Gayatri furrowed her brows, intrigued by her friend’s sudden seriousness. "Something missing?" she asked, leaning in slightly. "What do you mean?"

Anjali smiled, as if she had been expecting that question. "I mean that we, as women, get so caught up in 

being everything to everyone—good wives, good mothers, good daughters—that we forget about ourselves. When was the last time you felt truly admired, Gayu? Not for what you do, but for who you are?"

Gayatri blinked, caught off guard. She had never really considered that question. Siva was loving and dependable, but it had been a long time since she had felt that kind of admiration—the kind that made her feel... desired.

Gayatri: "I suppose... I don’t think about that much," she admitted softly, feeling a small wave of guilt, as if even considering it was somehow wrong.

Anjali leaned forward slightly, her eyes sparkling with understanding. "That’s exactly what I’m talking about. We get so wrapped up in our responsibilities that we don’t even allow ourselves to enjoy a little admiration, a little attention from the outside world. And you know what? It’s okay to want that."

Gayatri shifted uncomfortably but couldn’t deny that something about what Anjali was saying resonated with her.

Gayatri: "But isn’t that... dangerous? Wanting attention from someone other than your husband?" she asked, her voice tinged with uncertainty.

Anjali smiled warmly, as though she had anticipated Gayatri’s hesitation. "It’s not about betraying your marriage, Gayu. It’s about remembering that you are a woman with her own desires and needs, outside of being a wife and a mother. Sometimes, a little outside admiration—someone noticing you, complimenting you, making you feel special—can reignite that spark inside you. You don’t have to act on it, but it’s okay to enjoy it."

Gayatri looked down at her tea, her thoughts swirling. Anjali’s words were opening up a part of her that she had long ignored, a part of her that had become buried under the weight of daily responsibilities and routine. She remembered the way Raj had been acting recently—his glances, the way he lingered when they spoke, his compliments that seemed more personal than before.

For a fleeting moment, she wondered if she had unconsciously enjoyed it, even though she had told herself it was nothing.

Gayatri: "I don’t know... It just feels strange, like I shouldn’t even think about it."

Anjali reached out and placed a reassuring hand on Gayatri’s. "Gayu, it’s not wrong to want to feel desired. You’re not just a role—you’re a person, a woman. Outside admiration doesn’t mean you’re betraying Siva. It’s a reminder that you’re still vibrant, still beautiful, and it’s okay to acknowledge that. Enjoy it, if it comes your way. There’s no harm in letting yourself feel admired."

Gayatri sat back, feeling the weight of Anjali’s words. Could she really let herself enjoy that kind of attention? Would it be so wrong to feel special in someone else’s eyes, even for a moment? The idea made her pulse quicken, and she thought again of Raj. Had she been shutting down feelings of admiration without even realizing it?

Gayatri: "But what if it leads to something more? What if that admiration becomes... something else?"

Anjali’s candid words about enjoying outside admiration had stirred something within Gayatri, making her confront thoughts she hadn’t allowed herself to explore before. The idea of being desired by someone else was both exciting and unsettling, and Gayatri felt torn between curiosity and guilt.

Her voice was hesitant, but there was a flicker of curiosity there too. Anjali, sensing Gayatri’s conflict, smiled gently and leaned in, her eyes warm with understanding.

Anjali: "Gayu, I know it sounds scary to think about things getting deeper than just admiration, but here’s the thing—you’re still in control. As long as you keep that in mind, it doesn’t have to harm your marriage. In fact..."

She paused for a moment, choosing her words carefully before continuing.

Anjali: "Sometimes, a little emotional connection, even a flirtation, can reignite something within you—something you’ve been missing or haven’t realized you needed. And when that happens, it can actually bring a renewed energy back to your marriage. You don’t have to act on it physically, but allowing yourself to feel admired, even connected to someone else, isn’t always a bad thing."

Gayatri’s eyes widened slightly at her friend’s words. She hadn’t expected Anjali to suggest that even a deeper connection could be okay. A flutter of nervous excitement stirred within her, and she couldn’t help but think of Raj. His recent attention had felt more intense, more personal. What if she allowed herself to feel something back, just for a moment?

Gayatri: "But... what if it goes too far?" she asked softly, unsure of where the line truly was anymore.

Anjali smiled, her voice calm and reassuring. "You set the boundaries, Gayu. If it ever feels like it’s becoming too much, you can pull back. Even sometimes it may go beyond, that’s altogether fine as long as there is no harm. But enjoying a little connection, a little emotional spark with someone else, doesn’t mean you’re betraying Siva. In fact the things that go beyond also do not infer you are betraying Siva. Sometimes, these experiences can remind you of the parts of yourself you’ve forgotten—your own desires, your own vibrancy."

She leaned in slightly, her tone more serious now. "As long as you know where the boundary is, and you’re sure that whatever happens won’t affect your marriage, there’s no harm in letting yourself enjoy that moment... even if it leads to something more. Sometimes, the energy of feeling wanted by someone else can remind you of how much you want your own husband. It’s not about replacing anything; it’s about rediscovering yourself."

Gayatri felt her heart race at Anjali’s words. She thought again of Raj—his subtle advances, the way he looked at her with an intensity she hadn’t felt from Siva in a long time. Could she really allow herself to feel something more with Raj, even just emotionally, without damaging her marriage? Anjali made it sound so simple, so harmless, but Gayatri wasn’t sure.

Gayatri: "But... what if that connection starts to feel too real?" she whispered, her voice filled with uncertainty.

Anjali reached out, gently placing a hand on Gayatri’s arm. "That’s when you step back, Gayu. You don’t have to let it become something overwhelming. You control how deep it goes. But as long as it remains something that fuels you, something that doesn’t hurt your relationship with Siva, it can be a beautiful reminder of your own power, your own femininity. It doesn’t have to be a threat."

Gayatri sat back, her mind racing. The idea of allowing herself to feel something more with Raj felt both thrilling and terrifying. But Anjali’s words had planted a seed—what if it wasn’t wrong? What if, as long as she kept control, she could enjoy that connection, that admiration, without hurting anyone?

She thought again of Raj, of his compliments, his lingering glances. Was she already allowing herself to enjoy it, even if she hadn’t admitted it to herself yet?

Gayatri: "I never thought of it that way," she admitted, her voice soft, almost to herself. "I’ve always thought any connection like that would be wrong... dangerous."

Anjali smiled knowingly. "It’s only dangerous if you lose control, Gayu. But if you stay grounded in who you are and what you want, it can actually make you feel more alive. A little emotional spark with someone else can make you remember why you fell in love with your husband in the first place."

As the conversation drifted to other topics, Gayatri couldn’t shake the thoughts swirling in her mind. Anjali had opened a door she hadn’t even known existed—one where outside admiration, even connection, could be something enriching rather than threatening.

She had spent a pleasant evening at her friend's house. She found herself thinking more and more about Raj. Could she allow herself to feel admired by him? Could she explore that spark, knowing that it didn’t 

have to lead to anything physical? The idea both excited and frightened her, but one thing was certain—

Anjali’s words had changed something inside her. The conversation with Anjali had left Gayatri feeling unsettled, but in a way that stirred something deep within her. Anjali's words had opened a door to possibilities Gayatri had never dared to explore—thoughts of admiration, of attention from someone other than Siva. It’s harmless, Anjali had said. A little excitement, a reminder that you’re still desired. Gayatri had nodded along then, but now, as she walked in the soft drizzle, her thoughts kept circling back to the idea.

As she prepared to leave, dark clouds gathered in the sky, hinting at an impending downpour. She hoped to get home before the rain started, but as she stepped into the bus stop, the heavens opened up, and she was caught in a sudden downpour.

Gayatri shivered slightly as the cool air trickled down her skin, making her regret choosing a wrong day to visit her friend.

The constant rain caused waterlogs and the buses were full. She was not able to catch a single bus. She was standing in the bus stop shivering from the cold. Just then, a familiar car pulled up beside her, and the window rolled down to reveal Raj's concerned face. "Bhabhi! Get in quickly before you catch a cold!" Raj called out and he opened the car door and welcomed her. Relieved, Gayatri hurried over and slid into the passenger seat. Raj handed her a towel from the back seat, his eyes lingering a bit longer than necessary on her.

"Thank you, Raj. I didn't expect the rain to be this heavy," she said, wrapping the towel around her shoulders.

Raj was staring at her, who was shivering and a few water droplets here and there on her saree. He could see her navel clearly in this view. Her boobs were so inviting. Her hair and lips were wet with water drops. She sat inside. He started driving the car. He somehow controlled himself as he was starting to get an erection upon seeing her. He asked her to get warm by offering a towel to her. She started making herself warm.

Gayatri (her voice still a little shaky from the cold, but with a hint of a smile): "Thank God, you were here, otherwise it was getting difficult, Raj."

Raj (his voice smooth, a playful glint in his eyes): "Bhabhi, I have to say thanks. My dear bhabhi boarded my car, and I could safely take you to your house. And I also thank God for giving me this opportunity to have the most beautiful angel sitting in my car in this rain next to me."

Gayatri (exclaiming, but a blush creeping up her cheeks): "Stop it, Raj, always the same flirting."

Raj (a soft chuckle): "Okay, madam, please relax, I will safely land you at your home. Call Bhayya and inform him, he would also get worried about your safety. Tell him that you are in the safest hands."

She patted him on the shoulder and took her mobile, called her husband, and informed him of her status.

Siva (his voice coming through the phone, a teasing lilt to it): "I am fine now. Thank God, you are with Raj in this rain. I would be a bit late today due to the meetings and rain. Please take care, Gayu. And Raj, make sure Gayatri is extra comfortable. She gets cold easily. Maybe a little... warmth. Take care."

He hung up, leaving Gayatri flustered and Raj with a knowing smile.

Raj (a mischievous twinkle in his eye, his gaze momentarily dropping to her midriff): "So, are you feeling warmer now, or should I turn up the heat... in the car, of course? Though, I must admit, you already have a natural warmth about you that's quite... captivating."

Gayatri (shaking her head, but a small, shy smile playing on her lips, avoiding his gaze): "I'm fine, Raj. Just drive. And please, no more compliments. My cheeks can only handle so much color."

Raj (his voice a low murmur, leaning in slightly as he navigated a turn): "But how can I not, Bhabhi, when you're sitting here, looking like a dream? The rain outside, the cozy car... it's almost as if the world conspired to give me this moment with you. And that saree, clinging to you like that... it's a work of art."

Gayatri (her breath catching, she subtly pulls the towel a little higher, a nervous laugh escaping her lips): "Raj, you're incorrigible. You know, for a moment there, I almost forgot about the rain."

Raj (his eyes briefly meeting hers in the rearview mirror, a soft, intimate smile): "Did you now? Well, that's a compliment I'll cherish. Perhaps a little distraction isn't always a bad thing, especially when it's as beautiful as you are. I can still see the little droplets on your hair, Bhabhi... they look like tiny diamonds."

Gayatri (her heart pounding, she looks out the window, trying to regain her composure): "You have a way with words, Raj. Too many words, sometimes."

Raj (his gaze lingering on her for a moment longer than necessary before returning to the road): "Only for you, Bhabhi. Only for you. And don't worry, we'll be home soon. Though, I must confess, I wouldn't mind if this drive lasted a little longer." 

As he drove, the atmosphere in the car grew more intimate, the sound of the rain creating a cozy, secluded bubble. Raj couldn't help but continue stealing glances at Gayatri, her saree highlighting her figure in ways that made his pulse quicken.

Raj: "You’re shivering, Bhabhi. Here, warm off as best as you can."

She took the towel and began to warm herself, and wiped a few water droplets on her saree. Raj couldn’t help but notice how the rain had made her look even more beautiful, her saree outlining the curves of her body. His heart raced as he fought to keep his eyes on the road. 

As they drove, the atmosphere in the car grew thick with tension. Raj stole glances at Gayatri, her vulnerability tugging at his emotions. The soft glow of the streetlights reflected off her damp skin, and he found it increasingly difficult to resist his feelings.

Finally, he spoke, his voice low and filled with unspoken desire.

Raj: (His voice husky)  "Bhabhi... you look so beautiful right now. Like a water goddess, emerging from the rain. I’ve never seen you like this before."

Gayatri looked at him, surprised by the intensity in his voice. She knew Raj had feelings for her, but the way he was looking at her now sent a shiver down her spine, one that had nothing to do with the cold.

Gayatri: "Raj... please, don’t." Her voice was soft, unsure of how to handle the situation.

Raj: (His eyes linger on her) It's not just the saree, Bhabhi. It's the way it clings to you, revealing your form.

Gayatri: (Nervous laughter) Raj, you're embarrassing me.

Raj: (His voice dropping to a whisper) I can't help it, Bhabhi. Your beauty is a force of nature, like the rain itself. It washes away all pretense, leaving only the raw essence of your allure.

Gayatri: (Her breath hitches) Raj...

Raj: (His eyes meet hers) This rain has given me a gift, Bhabhi. A glimpse of your true beauty, unfiltered and unadorned. It's a sight I'll never forget.

Gayatri: (Turns away, her heart pounding) Let's just go home, Raj.

But Raj couldn’t stop himself. The sight of her, shivering, had awakened something in him that he could no longer control. He pulled the car over to the side of the road, the rain still pounding against the roof.

Raj: "I can’t keep pretending, Bhabhi. You’re always on my mind. I want you… I’ve wanted you for so long."

Gayatri: "Raj, this isn’t right…I’m married… You're my husband’s friend. This isn’t right. You shouldn’t..."

Raj: "I know, but I can’t help it. I’m drawn to you, Bhabhi. You have no idea how much I’ve wanted to be close to you. But I’m sorry, Bhabhi. I just… I couldn’t help myself. I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable."

Gayatri took a deep breath, trying to steady her racing heart.

Gayatri: "It’s okay, Raj. I know you didn’t mean any harm. But.."

Raj understood and changed the topic and started chatting with her on why she visited this long, she started answering while drying herself. Her saree was still a little wet. She had worn a light blue saree with a matching blouse. Her fair skin was looking attractive in that saree. She was feeling cold and started shivering. Raj put up some warm blowers in the car for her to get dry and feel comfortable.

Within an hour they reached their house. During this period, whenever Raj gets a chance, he flirted with her and also made her laugh with jokes. 

Raj parked the car outside the house, the rhythmic pattern of the rain still echoing in the background. The weather, combined with their intimate conversations during the drive, had heightened the tension between them, the air thick with unspoken desire. Once inside, Raj bolted the entrance door, the sound of the lock clicking making the moment feel even more intimate and enclosed. The heavy downpours outside only added to the intensity.

Gayatri, clearly affected by the events and the sudden rush of warmth from the house, walked over to the dining table. She placed her hands on the surface, her body trembling slightly, her breathing still ragged from the cold rain and the swirl of emotions running through her. Her saree clung to her body, outlining every curve, and Raj’s eyes were drawn to her navel—exposed just enough through the damp fabric to make him feel a rush of heat. Her vulnerability in that moment, combined with her beauty, made it impossible for him to look away.

His heart pounded as he watched her stand there, shivering, a mixture of uncertainty and longing in her posture. She was the epitome of grace and allure, a woman who had unknowingly become the center of his desires. Her saree wrapped around her form, accentuating her every curve. Her navel peeked from under the fabric, and Raj felt a surge of heat course through him. He was slowly losing control of himself, captivated by the sight of her standing there in the soft, dim light, her skin glistening from the rain.
