Chapter 32: The Bandaged Lie
Anandhi’s calls began almost immediately after Surya left the college gate.
The first one came at 11:45 AM — Anandhi’s number flashing on Surya’s screen while he drove the borrowed car back toward the apartment.
He answered on speaker, voice low and steady.
“Yes, Anandhi?”
“How is he now?” Her tone was tight, worry threading every word.
“He’s resting. Bandages are secure. The doctor said no internal damage — just sprains and bruises. Painkillers are working.”
A pause. He could almost hear her breathing.
“Can I speak to him?”
“He’s sleeping. Painkillers knocked him out. I’ll tell him you called the moment he wakes.”
Another pause — longer.
“Okay. Call me the second he’s up. And… thank you, Surya.”
He smiled faintly to himself.
“No need. I’ll keep you updated.”
He hung up.
By noon the updates were hourly.
12:30 PM — “He woke up. Ate a little Rasam Rice. Complaining about pain in the leg, but no fever.”
1:15 PM — “Doctor checked again. Swelling is down. Still recommending rest at home — hospital beds are full.”
2:00 PM — “Check-up done. Reports normal. I’m bringing him home now. Should reach in 30 minutes.”
3:10 PM — “We’re home. He’s on the sofa. Leg elevated. I’m making tea.”
4:05 PM — “He tried to stand — almost fell. I caught him. I guess he wont be normal for some days. ”
5:20 PM — “Kids are back from college. They’re worried but I told them it’s just a bad fall. They’re sitting with him now.”
6:40 PM — “Dinner is ready. I prepared it myself. He ate properly. I’ll stay till you’re back.”
Every call was calm, factual, gruff-but-warm on Surya’s end. Anandhi’s replies were short, controlled, but the relief in her voice grew with each one. She trusted the updates. She trusted Surya.
By evening, the flat glowed with lamplight when Anandhi finally arrived home.
She stepped inside — tired, saree slightly crumpled from the long day, pallu slipping off one shoulder. Her eyes immediately found Jeeva on the sofa — right leg propped on a pillow, right hand wrapped in white gauze, face drawn but calm. Surya sat beside him on a low stool — feeding him rice from a steel plate with careful spoonfuls — seasoned actors in a quiet performance.
Anandhi stopped in the doorway.
Her breath caught.
Jeeva looked up — gave a weak smile.
“You’re back.”
She crossed the room quickly — sandals clicking — knelt beside the sofa. Her fingers hovered over the bandages — not touching — eyes soft with pity.
“How bad is it?”
Surya answered before Jeeva could.
“Not as bad as it looks. Sprains mostly. Doctor said rest for a week — no weight on the leg. Hand is just bruised. He’ll be fine.”
Anandhi looked at Surya — really looked — gratitude shining in her dark eyes.
“Thank you… for everything. For bringing him home. For staying.”
Surya shrugged — casual, humble.
“No need. He called me. I couldn’t leave him there.”
She nodded — then turned back to Jeeva.
“You scared me.”
He reached out with his good hand — brushed her fingers.
“I’m sorry.” I guess we need to shift the plan t o search Rahul to some other day.
Anandhi signed like dont say it .. (she hinted Suriya is present there)
She held his hand for a moment — longer than necessary — then pulled away gently.
Surya stood.
“I’ll leave you two. Call if you need anything.”
Anandhi rose with him — walked him to the door.
They spoke softly — 20 minutes stretched into quiet conversation in the corridor.
She asked about the accident — details, timeline, doctor’s words.
He answered calmly — steady voice, no exaggeration.
She asked about his day — if he’d eaten, if he was tired.
She also thanked after learning he had cooked things. He said he would buy some vegetables for using without her permission.
She said he had cooked for them no need.
then
He brushed it off — “I’m fine. You focus on him.”
She thanked him again — voice softer.
“You’re thoughtful… calm, composed, sensible, caring. No wonder Jeeva trusts you.” He never befriended anyone, initially you two seemed to stand opposite wondering what happened in between now i understand Jeeva had seen something in you.
Surya’s eyes met hers — brief, intense.
“I just do what needs to be done.”
She nodded — something shifting in her gaze.
He left — door closing softly behind him.
Anandhi returned to the sofa — sat beside Jeeva.
The night came.
The kids were already asleep in their room — exhausted from the day.
She looked at the bandages — then at his face.
“You forgot the spare key today?”
Jeeva gave a sheepish smile.
“Stupid mistake. Sorry.”
She shook her head — faint smile.
“You’re always so careful… except today.”
He shrugged — good hand resting on the sofa cushion.
“Accidents happen.”
She reached out — adjusted the pillow under his leg — fingers brushing his calf.
He felt the touch like fire — cock twitching instantly under the blanket.
She didn’t notice.
She sat back — voice quiet.
“Good that you called Surya. I don’t know what I would have done if you were alone.”
Jeeva looked at her — eyes soft.
Jeeva said, this is why I want a partner for you? You need a partner to depend on and not always we can do it alone. But you got angry on me
Anandhi saw him..
Jeeva continued
If you marry a person like Suriya i wont be bothered.
What Suriya? Anandhi saw him surprised.
Jeeva quickly said i didnt mean suriya, i mean a person like him, loyal, caring and lovely. Look how he looked after me.
Anandhi laughs a bit, i thought you are coming up with the topic so you wil have a hand in marriage.
Jeeva said sheepishly, no im going abroad and it wont suit me, i mean marriage but if you are bored, want to try something new let's have sex fun sex.
Anandhi laughed instantly, "How can you speak like this when you are like this?" She mocked his bandage form.
Jeeva laughed too. Then he said im serious you are still young get married its good for you and kids.
Wont it be good if some one matches quality of Suriya, he is really good.
She nodded — gaze distant.
“He’s… good. Really good.”
Jeeva’s heart twisted.
“Yes,” he said quietly. “He is.”
She stood — smoothed her saree.
Then said being just good is not enough, someone i need has to have a undetachable love for me.. A selfless love only Rahul can give that.
She sighed and said
“I’ll make something light for you. Rest.”
She walked to the kitchen.
Jeeva watched her go — saree clinging to her curves, hips swaying gently.
The chemical storm flared again — cock hardening painfully under the blanket.
He closed his eyes.
The plan was working.
Suriya had the key.
Suriya had her number.
Suriya had her gratitude.
Soon — he’d have her.
And Jeeva would have peace — knowing she was safe.
Even if he had to face the fate.
