Chapter 28 : Anandhi and Jeeva Bond deepens as they navigate

The auto stopped outside the apartment building with a tired groan. Anandhi stepped out first — legs unsteady, saree pallu slipping slightly from her shoulder. The kids ran ahead, already chattering about dinner and cartoons, oblivious to the storm inside their mother. Jeeva followed close behind, carrying the small cloth bag she had brought from the villa. He kept his face calm, but his mind was a battlefield.
Anandhi unlocked the door. The moment it opened, she straightened — wiped her eyes quickly with the edge of her pallu, forced a small smile for Riya and Rohan.
“Go inside, darlings. Wash your hands. I’ll make something quick.”

The kids scampered in, shoes clattering.

Anandhi lingered in the doorway — back to Jeeva — shoulders still trembling faintly. She took a long, shaky breath, then turned to him.

“Don’t… don’t let them know,” she whispered. “Not a word about the letter. Or Rahul. Or the security officer. They’re too young. They’ll ask questions I can’t answer.”
Jeeva nodded — voice low.

“I won’t.”
She looked at him for a long moment — eyes searching, vulnerable.
“Thank you.”

She stepped inside.
Jeeva followed — closing the door softly behind them.
The flat felt smaller tonight. The air thicker.

Anandhi moved to the kitchen like a ghost — mechanically filling a pot with water, lighting the stove. Jeeva watched from the hall — guilt gnawing at him like acid. He had done this. He had written the note. Planted the cash. Made her believe Rahul had chosen another woman.

To save her.
To force her to move on.
To give her to Suriya.

He walked up behind her — close enough to smell the faint jasmine in her hair mixed with the day’s sweat.
“Anandhi…”
She stiffened — didn’t turn.

He spoke softly.
I know this will be hard on you.

Anandhi was in silent. Then she said
Jeeva, let the kids sleep we shall talk.

He patiently waited till the kids went to sleep.
She said, what you wanted to tell me?

Jeeva told her, no i felt you feel bad so i just want you to be strong and work on reality than in false promise. I need to see you happy and back on track before i leave !
Anandhi asked you are just going to abroad right?

Jeeva said yea it sounds like different world. He was aching inside with truth but try to hide it with false words.

Anandhi said, see first your brother left me, now you?
Jeeva said when i came here i informed you ii will be here only for couple of months

Anandhi said i know but at this situation, when im alone, its okay i know i should not ask you to taken my burden on you. I mean …

Jeeva i perfectly know what it is. But trust me i care for you.. I truly care for you.

Anandhi said how can you be so calm when you hear this news? Your calmness made me think you didnt consider my problem as yorus.

Jeeva said no i do consider.. Its just that keeping bothered on things that happened you should consider the future of kids. They must be your priority when Rahul leave all you for a women i ask you to atleast consider kids unlike Rahul..

Anandhi asked do you believe the letter, does he cheated.. Thilaga madam said she suspect his intention, he may be here somewhere hiding for some unknown reasons.

Jeeva firmly said ,come out of your delusion, think what is before you! I mean the facts.

“He did cheat on you. He left you. After everything you sacrificed — waiting, paying debts, raising the kids alone — he chose someone else. The note proves it. The cash proves it. He didn’t even have the courage to say it to your face.”
Anandhi’s hand paused on the rice packet. Her knuckles whitened.

“I don’t want to believe it,” she whispered.
Jeeva stepped closer — voice gentle but insistent.
“I know. But look at the facts. Three weeks no call. No message. Then this note — handwriting matches. Cash — 30 lakhs — enough to start over with someone new. He didn’t leave a trace. He didn’t want to be found.”

I guess he just want to skip this mundane life and live happily, he wants you t o be happy as well thats why he left you without a word and he did gave some money to get your freedom from debts and start a fresh life.
A tear slipped down her cheek — she wiped it angrily.
“Why now? After all these years?” I Lost my youth. I lost my hopes, i ..i.. You never know how it was hard for leading a single women life when husband is away those leechers.

Jeeva said i know it will be hard.

When you said about the leechers to thilaga, i understood.. Im sorry he said.

Anandhi said somewhere deeper i feel he didnt see another women, there must be somewhere else.
Jeeva hesitated — then lied smoothly.
“Maybe he met someone in Mumbai. Someone who didn’t have debts. Someone who didn’t have kids. Someone easier.I mean with loads of money, how in the world one would come with this much cash money if not someone richer, after all he is human all the years worked his ass fr money and single life even after married, he might be tempted by beauty and money”
Anandhi turned slowly — eyes wet, searching his face.
“Do you think… he ever loved me?”
Jeeva’s throat tightened.
“He did. Once. But people change. Or maybe… they never really change. They just stop pretending.”
She looked down — shoulders sagging.
“I waited for him. I told myself every late-night call, every missed birthday, every empty bed — it was for us. For the kids. For a better future. And now… this.”
Jeeva wanted to hold her. To tell her the truth. To say I’m here. I never left. I’m dying, but I came back for you.
Instead he said:
“You deserve better than a man who runs.” just like him dont run away Kids are there for you start a life that protects them. Pull yourself together and fight it.
She nodded — small, broken.
“I know.”

Slowly and steadily the little talks from Jeeva changed her, once she sobbed alone at night, but after she started seeing the kids, their joy changed . She decided to forget Rahul or the thoughts on and decided to spend their life and build again.
Jeeva and Suriya met regularly in roof top in the morning.. They just speak about plans. Suriya patiently waited for Anandhi to comeback from the heartbreak caused by Rahul. He doesnt know Jeeva is Rahul. He patiently waited for first move from Jeeva.
He spoke with his lawyers about law issues that he could face if he marries anandhi. Jeeva said just hold all talks now dont make people smell. He agreed.

A week passed.

Thilaga informed about settling to debt collectors, she and Anandhi went together, she found o ut they used illegal methods and fake bills to show fabricated amount, the bills shows she just need to pay only 5 Lakhs including principle. Thilaga filed a complaint, scared they wrote an apology and they surrendered t he documents to Thilaga at station. Under her supervision, she paid 5 Lakhgs ogot all bond papers, cheques, signatures back and she got saved with 25 lakhs.

Anandhi was happy, back home she thanked Jeeva for the idea about making Thilaga deal this, if not she would have lost it.. Jeeva hugged her tightly over joy..

Anandhi was stunned. Later after realising she stepped back .
The flat settled into a fragile new normal.
Anandhi stopped crying in front of the kids. She smiled when they asked about “Papa” — said he was “very busy working far away.” She cooked. She cleaned. She helped with homework. But at night — when the kids slept — Jeeva sometimes heard her muffled sobs from her room.

Another week passed, once a while, she thinks about Rahul
But Jeeva was there to change her mind or distract her. But her heart always search him..

One more week passed. The consolation worked well for Anandhi, but it had a side effect yes she now totally depend on Jeeva, his opinion, his take.

She started liking him, kind of love but she thought of labelling it as brotherly love for the society . that faker brother love helping her a lot . like
Anandhi slowly started coming out of the worst of the grief.
She laughed at the kids’ jokes again.
She hummed while cooking.
She let Jeeva help more — chopping vegetables, folding clothes, carrying groceries.
But something had changed.
She caught herself watching him — the way he moved, the way he smiled at Riya, the way his shirt stretched across his shoulders. He looked so much like Rahul in the old days — young, strong, full of life.
She felt it — a spark.
A pull.
Like she was twenty-two again, heart racing, body awakening.
When he stood too close in the kitchen — reaching for the spice tin above her — his chest brushed her back. She froze — nipples hardening instantly under her blouse, a flush creeping up her neck.
She stepped away — awkward, quiet.
Later that night — alone in her room — she remembered a incident happend few weeks back.
How he had taken her nighty, bra, panties from the chair while she slept.
How she had woken to the creak of the door — seen him leaving with her clothes.
She had felt violated.
Awkward.
But also… curious.
Did he take them to masturbate?
To think of her?
The thought made her thighs press together — a shameful heat blooming low in her belly.
She hated herself for it.

Rahul was missing but still she was married to him. But is that matter anymore? Why not i start a new life but Jeeva is too young she thought.. She wanted to avoid it. Buhe thoughts keep coming to herself.

She is now alone in the bedroom, so why not check for ourselves? lets search Rahul, what if Rahul was into different trouble and i believe fabricated things? She wanted to check with Jeeva, will he help her? When cops turned off why not i search him for myself.

She resoluted I wont beg Rahul,
I just want the truth
If he really sees someone. Let me live my life new with the kids.
But if that's not the case, let's stop my wandering thoughts and do all effort to get him back.
She resolutely decided to open with Jeeva.

While Jeeva also wanted to be open, open to her about her willingness if she would take a man as husband? He was ready to introduce Suriya to her as her match a new partner in life

Will Jeeva help her? Or Will Jeeva open his plan about her remarriage?
Who will have the upper hand tomorrow?
