The scent of the basement—concrete and oil—had been thoroughly scrubbed away, replaced by the comforting, domestic aroma of steamed basmati and her mother’s signature fish curry.

Bavi sat at the familiar teak table, her hands folded neatly in her lap. She had changed into a simple, pale pink salwar kameez, a "Domestic Version" of her Senior Lead persona that felt like a fragile encryption layer. Across from her, the empty chair where Shri would sit on Sunday seemed to pulse with a phantom heat.

"You're very quiet tonight, kanne," her mother said, placing a bowl of cooling curd on the table. "Is the 'Deployment' still weighing on your mind?"

Bavi looked up, forcing a small, synchronized smile. "Just a bit of 'Post-Release' fatigue, Ma. It was a long week."

"I can tell," her father mused, mixing his rice. "He seems to have a very protective 'Handshake' with the system. I’m looking forward to Sunday. It’s rare to find a Junior who understands the 'Old college' logic as well as he does."

"And he’s so polite!" her mother added, her eyes twinkling with a mismatch of maternal pride and matchmaking mischief. "The way he helped me clear the plates last time... Bavi, you’ve never had a team member so... 'Integrated' with our home before."

Bavi felt "drenched" under the table, the phantom sensation of Shri’s fingers under her skirt earlier that evening returning with a vengeance. "He's just being professional, Ma. It’s part of the 'Social Engineering' of a modern office."

"Social Engineering, my foot," her mother chuckled. "The way he looks at you when you’re not looking... that’s not 'Engineering,' Bavi. That’s a 'High-Priority Alert' if I’ve ever seen one."

Bavi’s heart performed a frantic "Ping" against her ribs. She looked at her father, expecting a "System Warning," but he only nodded thoughtfully.

"If he’s as good with people as he is with 'Data Persistence,' he’ll go far," her father said. "Just make sure the 'Project' doesn't get too complicated, Bavi. Sometimes, when the 'Sync' is too fast, the system can overheat."

Bavi swallowed a mouthful of rice that felt like dry code. "I’m monitoring the 'Thermal Levels,' Pa. Everything is within the 'Safe Operating Range'."

"Good," her mother said, patting Bavi’s hand. "Because on Sunday, I’m making the special mutton fry as well. If he survives your father’s technical interrogation and my cooking, we might have to 'Whitelist' him permanently."

As the dinner continued, the conversation drifted to neighborhood gossip and family logistics, but Bavi was a "Background Process" running a different script. She could feel her phone vibrating in her pocket—a rhythmic, persistent "Interrupt" that she knew was Shri.

She waited until she was back in the sanctuary of her bedroom, the door locked and the "Parental Firewall" successfully engaged, before she checked the message.

Bavi leaned against the door, her breath hitching as she typed her reply.

Bavi [Lead]: The 'Firewall' is holding, but it’s under heavy load. My mother is making mutton fry on Sunday. You’ve been warned. And my father thinks your 'Architecture' is impressive. Don't make me 'Abort' this deployment, Shri.

Shri [Dev]: No 'Abort' commands allowed, Lead. I’m already deep-coded into the Sunday schedule. Sleep well. I’ll be in your dreams... and your 'Root Directory' by morning.

Bavi set the phone down, her eyes closing as the "Manual Override" of the day finally took its toll. The "Domestic Integration" was only forty-eight hours away, and she knew that once Shri crossed the threshold of her home on Sunday, there would be no going back to "Read-Only" mode ever again.
