Chapter 158 – Shiney's Confrontation - Mirnaa chooses Bharath
Shiney stood frozen in the doorway of her bedroom — the words still hanging in the air like smoke. Mirnaa sat on the edge of the bed — knees drawn up, arms wrapped around herself — staring at the floor as if the carpet held answers she couldn’t find anywhere else.
Shiney’s voice came out small, almost broken.
“Do you doubt me…?”
Mirnaa looked up slowly — eyes tired, red-rimmed, but steady.
“No,” she said quietly. “I wanted to know. After all this… I cannot trust anyone.”
Shiney’s shoulders sagged. She walked in — closed the door softly behind her — and sat beside Mirnaa on the bed. The mattress dipped slightly. For a moment, neither spoke. The only sound was the faint hum of the ceiling fan and the distant traffic outside.
Shiney’s voice trembled when she finally spoke.
“Last evening… Bharath called me. I gave him my hospital address. We met in the canteen. He said he got married to Manya… but the marriage was a scam. And Vikram enabled it. I was worried. I thought — how can he do that? Then he showed me a video. Vikram… beating someone. He said you were unsafe there. He promised he would bring out the truth. And then… he asked me something else.”
Mirnaa didn’t move — didn’t breathe.
“He said if he could get the truth out… he wanted a chance. To be with you. Marry you. Start a fresh life.”
Mirnaa exhaled — long, shaky.
Shiney turned to her — eyes searching.
“What do you really want me to do, Mirnaa? I want to hear it from you.”
Mirnaa’s face crumpled. She leaned forward — suddenly — and buried herself in Shiney’s arms.
The sobs came quietly at first — then harder. Shiney held her tight — rocking gently — letting the tears soak her shoulder.
“I’m sorry,” Mirnaa whispered between sobs. “If I failed you…”
“Not at all,” Shiney murmured — voice thick. “Not at all. It’s just… they are… Shiney had no words to console her
Mirnaa continued
I just want to stop this. Stop him from nearing me.
Let him have his own life. I will have mine.”
She cried harder — body shaking.
Shiney stroked her hair — voice soft.
“Then keep him away. Drive him away.” People will say adjust with your husband, accept him or her for what they are.. no dont do that.. if you do that they will continue to do what they do..
If you stay away from them.. atleast for sake of winning you back.. he will drop all things the illegal things.. and stay clean..
Mirnaa watched her eyes.. she had a truth too.. Vikram may try to come clean..
A sudden Door knock
Mirnaa pulled back — wiping her face with trembling hands.
It was Bharath.. he said i'm leaving now i will join you tomorrow.
“Bharath left,” she said quietly. “He said he’d come back for dinner.”
Shiney nodded — no judgment in her eyes. Just worry.
They didn’t speak much after that.
They slept in the same room — Mirnaa curled on her side,
Shiney lying awake for hours, staring at the ceiling fan’s slow circles.
The next morning, Shiney went to the hospital. Mirnaa accompanied her — silent in the passenger seat — watching the city blur past the window. They came back together in the evening — tired, quiet.
In the living room — lights low — Shiney finally asked.
“Tell me genuinely… what do you feel? Why are you worried?”
Mirnaa looked down at her hands — twisting her fingers together.
“I feel… all these days I was around him… he didn’t act wild. Maybe because of me. I fear… if I stay away… will he turn wild again?”
Shiney looked into her eyes — searching.
“You still worry for him. You still love him?”
Mirnaa didn’t answer immediately.
“Then where does Bharath come in? Did you fall for two men or the lust above love is true? Are you truly becoming shameless like that?”
Mirnaa’s gaze hardened — but not in anger. In resolve.
“Don’t judge me. I have my own reasons. As for Vikram… I don’t have any hatred on him. Truly.
But I need to display it. Else he will come behind me all the time.”
Shiney exhaled — understanding slowly dawning.
Mirna suddenly asked why did you tagged along bharath even after he said some nonsense like he wanted to marry me?
Shiney caught... she always had this bias towards vikram
Mirna correctly caught her in the moment
Shiney said.. Bharath is a cop, steady life.. even if he had to marry your life will be good
Vikram is noman.. just lucky to have plenty of cash
Mirna said you still have biased thoughts towards him..
Shiney said not like that.
Mirna said i do worry for him.. he needs to leads the life normal.. even if im here, or away promise me you check on him..
Shiney was furious.. why you want me to?
Please mirnaa stressed..
“I need him to focus on his life. Normally. Not turning into his wild ways. Just help me. I want to stay here for some months. I will move away… maybe with Bharath. Or alone.”
Shiney reached over — squeezed her hand.
“Have you made up your mind? Bharath is what you choose?”
Mirnaa shook her head — slow, certain.
“He texted me. He’s coming here for dinner.”
and she hesitantingly asked...
Shiney asked what?
Mirna said i would take that second bedroom.. for a month bharath and i will be staying there..
Shiney looked at her — long and quiet.
“I understand.”
The doorbell rang at seven-thirty.
Bharath stood outside — casual shirt, no weapon visible, but the weight of everything he carried was heavy in his eyes.
Mirnaa opened the door.
He stepped inside — looked at Shiney — then at Mirnaa.
No one spoke for a long moment.
Then Mirnaa said , Shiney gave us that room.
Shiney looked at her unbelievably..
minutes later Mirnaa and bharath went in and the door locked.
