I also think that the statement: ‘This would provide an opening for his opponent and his father-in-law’ would be more appropriate than ‘making himself vulnerable to blackmail’. 

That was my first thought too – just the wrong choice of words!

I can't shake the feeling that Tara will end up on Hemant's side and be a great help to him.
I may be wrong, but somehow this thought has taken root in my mind.
