Chapter 51 – The Thrill of the Hunt
Vikram, Mirnaa and Priya walked out of the security officer station in heavy silence.
The sun was already high, pressing down on them with midday heat.
As soon as they came out, Priya, Vikram and Mirnaa got into chat mode discussing what needs to be done with the hospital for their no-care attitude on last day’s incident. They worried about nurse safety. The chatter was going on.
Meanwhile, Bharath came out of the station.
Rishi, who was waiting inside his Thar jeep, waved at him like all fine.
Bharath came and sat inside.
He was seeing Vikram and Mirnaa through his jeep mirror. He suddenly punched hard on the steering wheel.
“Shit… I didn’t know she was his wife.”
Rishi laughed. “He looked like not a big deal. What’s tough for you to get his wife?”
Bharath’s eyes stayed fixed on Vikram who was chattering outside the station, through his mirror.
“He may look simple, but I know who he is.”
Rishi raised an eyebrow. “Who is he?”
“I mean I could not exactly say who he is… but I know he is very close confidant of Sekaran.”
Rishi frowned. “Who is Sekaran?”
Bharath exhaled, voice low. “He was once a powerful person. Ran a big network. Suddenly he stopped and shifted to USA with his daughter. Vikram worked with him as close confidant.”
Rishi mocked lightly. “Just a henchman.”
Bharath shook his head. “No. He is quite powerful.
I have seen him taking on a big crowd single-handedly, fighting with his fists, exactly when he was with so many wounds.
I saw him with my own eyes. Now he is a businessman, behaving like a proper good man.”
“That inspector and big shot spitting so much on his wife, but he didn’t show any anger.
He looks a very different person for me, very strange… I have seen how strong he is.”
Rishi asked, “So you are telling you can’t offend him?”
Bharath smiled thinly. “Nah… it’s not that.
It would become a little more tough.
Given he has strengths, and he is friend with Krish who is trying to work with me, and I’m sort of moving towards Aadharsh.”
Rishi blinked. “Who is Aadharsh? I cannot process it. Tell me fully.”
Bharath leaned back, eyes still on the mirror.
“Aadharsh is enemy of Krish. Krish is Sekaran’s associate. Vikram is friend of Krish and closely worked with Sekaran.”
Rishi pieced it together. “So Aadharsh and Sekaran are enemies?”
Bharath laughed — a short, dark sound. “Looks like… but they are father and son.”
Rishi shouted, “What?!”
Bharath laughed out. “Okay okay relax. Let me tell the full story in short.”
“Sekaran owns a big empire in the dark network. He had been the king for almost 3 decades. His son Aadharsh faked like he is uninterested in his father’s dark business.
Sekaran, though owning a big empire, they won’t do certain businesses which reap multiple money — 3x, 5x times due to their policies and humanitarian grounds.
With new players coming in, Sekaran seemed to lose the empire. But suddenly his empire got stronger. His network link amazed his enemies. That is when Aadharsh’s real face came.
He orchestrated an attack on his father — a small one, as a threat. He didn’t reveal himself yet, but just to scare him.
Sekaran realised his own son turning this way. He felt bad and decided to side himself instead of fighting with Aadharsh. He moved to USA.
Vikram worked exactly the time Sekaran was about to take a fall and got his empire double strong — and when Aadharsh showed his real face. Aadharsh actually did an alliance with Sekaran’s enemies and formed an alliance to beat Sekaran out of the field, but he himself moved out.
Even though Aadharsh could not crack the business like Sekaran did. His formula, his secret men, his secret network is still a far cry for Aadharsh. So he is trying to use me as one source. I recently heard Sekaran was kidnapped. Could be Aadharsh doing. Krish is now trying to initiate a call. So this is short. Anyone from Sekaran gang cannot be taken seriously.”
Rishi listened, stunned. “What a messy Aadharsh family is. Okay… so you are stepping back from this Mirnaa?”
Bharath smiled — slow, dangerous.
“No.”
Rishi asked, “What?”
“Now I got a new thrill. Bedding a wife whose husband is a bit dangerous… maybe.”
He winked.
Near Vikram's Sedan
Priya typing some message and looking at her watch.
“It’s already too late. I didn’t go to my house as well. My husband will be worried. I will visit in the evening.”
Mirnaa noticed — when Priya said she was “calling home,”
she dialled her lover’s number, not her husband’s. Their eyes met for a brief second.
A knowing smile passed between them — small, secret, woman-to-woman.
Vikram turned to Priya with genuine gratitude. “Thank you for helping them by staying overnight.”
Priya smiled softly. “Anything for Mirnaa.”
She left, heading toward her car.
Vikram opened the sedan door for Mirnaa.
She slid inside, still shaken but calmer now.
Before she sat fully, she glanced back — toward the Thar jeep parked across the road.
Bharath was watching from the driver’s seat, eyes locked on her.
She didn’t know why, but a strange shiver ran through her — part unease, part something she couldn’t name.
He looked into the mirror. Mirnaa was getting into Vikram’s sedan. Before she sat, she gave one last look at his Thar.
Bharath spoke to the mirror, voice low and hungry.
“Mirnaa… wait for me. We will have the best time in your bed.
Before that, let me dig deep on your husband. He must have lied a lot. I can sense it.”
He started the engine.
The Thar pulled away — slow, deliberate, like a predator circling.
Vikram drove in silence for a while, one hand on the wheel, the other holding Mirnaa’s.
Mirnaa asked, “Should I continue to work? After all this issue and the big-shot threatening me?”
Vikram said, “Absolutely this is the time you should work. Make sure no pressure can stop you from doing what you like.”
She leaned her head on his shoulder.
“Thank you for standing for me,” she whispered. “I was so scared.”
Vikram kissed her hair. “I’ll always stand for you. Support you and be a part of your dreams.”
But inside, his mind was racing.
Bharath knew him.
What if sometimes Bharath reveals the truth to Mirnaa?
I cannot risk Mirnaa knowing the truth about me. I should race ahead and get him on my side.
An unease also came to him. How did the monster was him? Bharath. Strange.
Why is his presence constant around Mirnaa? Is that coincidence or planned?
Before getting him on my side, I need to dig deeper on him. Need a catch that shuts his mouth.
Meanwhile, Bharath too decided to dig deep on Vikram.
Both have different goals now but centred around one person — Mirnaa.
Vikram wanted to make sure if Bharath’s presence around Mirnaa is coincidental.
Bharath wanted to dig deep so that he can get something that shuts Vikram’s mouth and that will give him access to Mirnaa.
The game had changed.
And Vikram wasn’t sure who was hunting whom anymore.
Vikram, Mirnaa and Priya walked out of the security officer station in heavy silence.
