Chapter 44 – The Waiting Room Encounter
"I'm Vani. Vani Nitin Prakash."
Nivi returned the smile — polite, friendly
"So what are you doing?" Nivi asked, conversation flowing to ease the lingering tension.
"Just a housewife..." Vani said softly, eyes dropping to her hands for a second.
"But looking for a job."
Nivi's interest sparked immediately — she had been thinking about hiring a reliable subordinate.
The company was growing fast, clients multiplying, deadlines tightening, and with her own distractions lately — especially the start of her real affair with Rohan — she needed someone dependable to keep things running smoothly.
Who should really become an associate soon so that she can reclaim her own time with family, especially Aara…
She was unsure about what was in store for her — whether she would fully embrace the affair or stop it. But she also thought about Rohan’s involvement in the company. Whatever decisions she made, she was caught in the middle — whichever path she chose had the chance of affecting the company. Stopping Rohan might impact the business; encouraging him would eat into her time. Personally, the decision to stop or encourage him would have no major effect on her… but the company? The one she built with her own hands? It had to run irrespective of her personal choices.
It needed a reliable person.
She was just thinking about that on her way to the hospital… but now there was a woman right in front of her.
She thought — if she is an MBA graduate, it will be easy?
"What do you do in academics?"
"I have done MBA..."
Nivi's eyebrows rose — perfect fit.
She reached into her purse and pulled out a visiting card.
Smooth, professional, her company logo crisp.
"I'm running a business. If you're interested in this domain, you can join me. I need someone to look after some works..."
Nivi was unsure why she needed to think of her as reliable. But somewhere a spark had lit in her eyes.
Vani's eyes lit up — genuine surprise and interest.
"Sure, I'm willing..." she said, voice hopeful.
"But my husband doesn't want me to go out now... maybe I will try in future."
She took the card carefully — fingers gentle, as if holding something fragile and precious.
"Okay... thank you."
The nurse came again — "Nivi..."
They exchanged a warm "See you soon" and departed.
Inside the cabin, the air was cool and clinical, the faint scent of antiseptic lingering.
Nivi sat on the examination table, paper crinkling beneath her.
She explained her condition — the soreness deep in her hips, the dull throb in her lower abdomen that had persisted since Bangalore.
Doctor — middle-aged woman, kind eyes behind glasses — examined gentle, professional.
Palpated carefully, asked questions soft.
"It's just nerve impact — nothing to worry. Suppressed by bad posture... maybe twisted during intimate moment."
Nivi flushed — heat rising to cheeks, nodding quickly, eyes on floor.
She knows... or guesses.
Doctor prescribed tablets — small bottle, instructions clear.
"Two days, you'll be fine. Rest, warm compress."
Nivi hesitated — voice small.
"I take pills to avoid pregnancy... maybe side effect?"
Doctor shook head — reassuring.
"No, that has nothing to do.. but avoid pills often. Better cycle. Use condoms."
Smile light, maternal.
"Your husband don't like it?"
Nivi shook head in shame — automatic, face burning deeper.
Then realised — how would doctor know if this is by her husband or someone else?
The assumption stung.
Face burned hotter.
"Okay..."
Doctor smiled suddenly something striked her she looked at irony before her
She spoke .
"See, you're taking a pill to control. The woman I encountered before — she came to see me as she could not conceive.."
Nivi struck — memory flashing to Vani outside, baby in arms, longing in eyes perhaps.
Smiled light — understanding the irony, the contrast.
Her own choice — control.
Vani's struggle — opposite.
"Okay doctor, bye.."
Left cabin — tablets in hand, mind turning.
Back home.
Vani told Prakash — excited, card in hand, eyes bright.
"Met a woman today — at doctor. You know what she offered me a job. That too a marketing company for big corporations"
Prakash (Nitin Prakash) — distracted, sitting with laptop, mind on business rivalry, step-brothers' old hurt festering.
"No..." voice flat, eyes on screen.
"Let me stay somewhere solid first. You remember right we discussed this long back. Wait for a year i don't want two of us travel same path.. let me jump, you wait until.."
Vani disappointed — excitement fading, shoulders dropping.
Turned back — slow.
Saw Nithin didn't even look at the visiting card she placed on the table.
His mind reeling about hurting his step-brothers caused — old betrayal, business sabotage years ago.
To cut short, Nithin had step brothers who cheated them a year back, taking all the assets from him, Vani’s father who married her to Nithin for money threw him away when he realised Nithin has nothing, in fact Vani’s father was a small business man.. Nithin's mother liked Vani when she saw her in a relative marriage function and decided to get her for Nithin as she looked beautiful; she chose Vani even though they were not in their range of wealth. She got married to Nithin exactly 15 months back..
She got introduced to the luxurious world.. She was the happiest person.. Nithin though average he looked good, plus the cars, big house, countless amenities, and nithin gave her freedom to go wherever she wanted to party… She used to rotate 3 cars a week for her drive to shop. During college days, and there is a specific set of friends, who only consider themself as elite, she tried to hang out with them but never found a place… but post marriage, the same group had invited her to their social gatherings..
The group still exists even after years of college studies are over.. All suddenly changed 10 months back.. When Nithin’s step brothers his fathers second wifes sons cheated him and took all the wealth..
Nithin’s mother was forced to leave their house, Nithin’s father took her to America for medical treatment. She also played a part in the scheme, she thought it would push nithin to stand on his own feet but things turned more ugly for him and her. Nithin considers this as betrayal and totally cuts ties with his family..
Vani, for the sake of marriage, sticks to him, but she also expects the rich lifestyle but what she has to do is to struggle with him.
Nithin decided to win the game, by earning more than his step brothers, he thought Vani was his step to success. She has no option, other than following her husband, She believed in her strength but Nithin never wanted it.
Nithin never knows his action is hurting her..
Unknown to him, she is determined to climb the ladder soon and lead a super luxurious and rich life; she wants to teach the world a lesson, also Nithin who had been sidelining her worse than the elite friends ever did.
She picked Nivi's card and was scratching her mind — it was joggling between listening to Nithin's words or going to pursue her dream?

Nivi came back home — tablets taken with water.
She was feeling relaxed — realising it's just a nerve ache.
She is just thinking about Rohan — she didn't speak to him today.
Will he feel odd?
Suddenly a promise came into mind — her surrender in Bangalore, that she gave him permission to be an active sexual partner.
She felt shame — but she never had a guilt feeling now.
